Harvest Donations
Our Harvest Festival Assembly will be taking place on Friday 23rd October, and we are planning on making the same donation requests as last year. We ask all families in Years 4, 5 and 6 to fill a decorated shoebox with foodie treats: a small box of chocolates, a packet of fancy biscuits, lovely jams or chutneys for example. The recipients of your generosity are elderly and housebound residents of Kew, and the gifts will be hand-delivered by small groups of Year 6 children during the afternoon of Friday 23rd. We are grateful to the Kew Neighbourhood Association which supports us in identifying those in need. All other year groups are asked to give donations of food which will be delivered to Richmond Food Bank. Please follow this link to see a list of food currently needed: Richmond Food Bank Donations. All donations will be collected in the Atrium during the week beginning 19th October. Year 6 parents are invited to join us for the assembly at 9am and we anticipate it will be finished by 10.15am. Year 6 parent volunteers are also needed to support the children with making the deliveries. Thank you in advance for your generosity in supporting our Harvest causes.
Flu Immunisation
Please find attached to the newsletter email, a letter for the upcoming Flu Vaccination programme on the Thursday 15th October in the morning. The vaccine is offered to all pupils from Kindergarten to Year 6.

Open Class Coffee Morning – Year 1 and Year 2
We would like to invite our Year 1 and Year 2 parents to come for our first Open Class Coffee Morning on Wednesday 30th September from 8:30am – 9am. The Open Class gives parents the opportunity to see their child’s daily routine and classroom environment. Then parents are invited for coffee in the dining hall with some of our SLT team to discuss any questions you may have.

Year 3 to Year 6
Author Visit – Nat Harrison
On Wednesday 7th October 2026, we will be visited by a local children’s author, Nat Harrison, for a talk about her book called The Girl who Raced the World. A timeless tale of travel, treachery and trust, this page-turning adventure brings Jules Verne’s classic Around The World in Eighty Days to life for young readers with a thrilling twist.
All books will be provided by The Alligator’s Mouth and must be purchased in advance. If you would like to pre-order your book, click here to purchase “The Girl who Raced the World” Book
To avoid disappointment on the day, please ensure you pre-order your copy before 6th October so Nat can sign and dedicate your book to your child. There will not be copies on the day.
It promises to be a wonderful experience for the children in Y3 to Y6 and will hopefully encourage their love of reading.

Eco Club
On Monday 21st September Eco Club hit the streets of Kew to do their bit for World Clean Up Day. The Eco Club members armed themselves with high vis jackets, gloves and litter pickers and set about cleaning the streets of litter. In just 25 minutes they had collected nearly a kilo of rubbish including a baby’s dummy, tissues, sweet wrappers, old coffee cups and old pen lids. The Broomfield House Eco warriors ensured nothing was left behind. Please make sure you do your bit and take your litter home.
Pupil Experience
This week our Pupil Ideas Box officially opened for business! Children from across the whole school have been thinking of small changes that would make a big difference to their Broomfield House experience. The box is in pride of place in the atrium, and filling up fast. If anyone else would like to enter their wonderful thoughts and ideas, be sure to write them on a piece of paper and post them into the box soon. The Pupil Council will be reading every entry, and considering them all at their first meeting of the term. We will then be working hard to bring those wishes to life!
Celebrating Mid-Autumn Festival
Today, some of the Year 2 children dressed up to celebrate the Mid Autumn festival.
Kindergarten celebrated the Mid-Autumn Festival (中秋节) by learning about its traditions, listening to the beautiful traditional Chinese song May We All Be Blessed with Longevity (但愿人长久), with children singing parts of the song in their own home languages, and hearing the traditional story behind the festival. The children also practised saying “Happy Mid-Autumn Festival” in Mandarin. 中秋快乐! (Zhōngqiū Kuàilè!).
They also enjoyed making their own mooncakes using playdough and traditional wooden mooncake moulds, and explored Chinese characters for the sun, moon, animals and numbers.
Kindergarten
This week in Kindergarten the children had a great time enjoying the sun and garden activities. They particularly enjoyed making pizza using leaves in the mud kitchen, digging and building in the builder’s yard, cutting leaves with scissors and making pictures with leaves!
Year 1- Forest School
Year 1 thoroughly enjoyed their first forest school session with Scott today. The children took part in making their own clay animals from clay and natural resources as well as learning how to chop wood safely. They finished the session by lighting a fire which was very exciting!
Artwork of the Week
This week, the children in Pre-Kindergarten were introduced to ink painting. They explored the different elements of a portrait, experimented with vibrant colour and developed their fine motor skills through painting. The results were immediate, expressive, and distinctive works of art.
Year 5 Science
In science this week, Y5 have been investigating different mixtures using a range of different solids and liquids. Next week, they will need to to think about how they can separate them again!

Year 5: Lia has made a super start to Year 5 and it has been lovely to be able to welcome her to Broomfield. This week, Lia has certainly demonstrated the Broomfield values and has shown real determination with some tricky maths. A super start!
Year 6: Will: For his fantastic focus and dedication and for his wonderful creative writing this week! You wrote an incredible short story, using remarkable language choices to create the perfect mood and bring the action to life.
