Wonderful start for Year 3

What a wonderful start to the school year for Year 3! The children have settled in well, embracing all the exciting changes that come with a new year. They were bursting with pride to showcase their ‘All About Me’ posters, which they created over the summer holidays. This term, we are diving into science with a fascinating topic on the skeleton and human body – and the children were absolutely thrilled to meet Skelly the skeleton! We have also begun our class reader book ‘A Mummy Ate My Homework’ which links really well to our Ancient Egypt topic in History. Well done on a great first full week, Year 3. 

Kindergarten - Super Me

Kindergarten had a great first week and everyone settled back into their routines with ease. We welcomed our new class member, and we had our first Spanish lesson which everyone enjoyed! In Literacy we read the story ‘My Magic Family’. The children were all very engaged and excited to discuss who is in their family. In Maths we practised counting and estimating small quantities. The children did a great job helping to count how many cubes they had and finding the matching numbers on their number fans.  

Fantastic week for Year 1

This week in Year 1, we enjoyed our first week on a more formal timetable. The children engaged in a range of learning across their specialist lessons as well as core subjects. In maths we have covered the topics of sorting objects, counting objects, counting from a group and finding a larger amount. In literacy we have started our learning on What The Ladybird Heard by Julia Donaldson. This will be our book for the half term and the children have enjoyed role playing and storytelling activities so far. A highlight this week was the children’s great participation in their PE lesson. Mr Pache was very impressed! 

Year 4 - Wimbledon Water Sports Trip

Year 4 had a fantastic time at Wimbledon Park Water Sports Centre, enjoying an exciting day of kayaking and sailing. We began by learning about water safety before heading out onto the lake in pairs on kayaks, with Miss Bird and Mr Bourne joining in too. Despite the windy conditions, the children showed great determination as they paddled to an island, tackled a range of fun challenges on their kayaks and even enjoyed a competitive game of “stuck in the mud” on the water! After lunch, the children took to the lake in sailing boats, working brilliantly in teams and confidently applying the sailing skills they had learned. We rounded off the day with everyone taking a refreshing jump into the water, including Miss Bird and Mr Bourne! We were incredibly proud of Year 4 for their bravery, teamwork and resilience throughout the trip. It was a wonderful experience and a fantastic way to start the year!

Artist of the Week

Kindergarten started the term in art lessons by painting portraits using black ink. They practised their brush control while exploring and identifying geometric shapes. The children thoroughly enjoyed this expressive activity, producing some striking and eye-catching results.

Alara’s Snow Leopard Challenge 🐆🚲

Alara LOVES snow leopards! So, in August, she decided she wanted to do something to help protect the 4,000–7,000 snow leopards that remain in the wild.

She set herself a challenge: cycle 100 kilometres during August to raise money for snow leopard conservation.

At the start of the month, Alara could only manage 1–2km at a time. But she kept pedalling! By the end of her challenge, she was able to cycle an incredible 15km in one go — with only a short break for a Gail’s muffin!

In total, Alara cycled 100km and raised nearly £2,000 to help protect the species she loves.
