As the weather has become colder, please ensure that the children are well wrapped up with their red beanies, red scarves and red gloves and their winter coats. Staff will make sure the children are wearing them when outside at break/lunch times and when going to the sports field. Reminder: Year 1 – 6 children should wear the smart grey coat with their uniform and the red sports coat only with PE/Games kit.
All children will need their grey coats and school hats for the following Christmas events:
Year 2 – 6 for the Christmas Carol Service Rehearsal – Monday 2nd December
Year 2 – 6 for the Christmas Carol Service – Tuesday 3rd December
Year 3 for Kew Sparkle – Fri 6th December
Year 5 and 6 for Cecil Court – Tue 10th December
The Year 2 – Year 6 children have been busy rehearsing for our annual Carol Service at St Anne’s Church on Tuesday 3rd December at 1:45pm. Children should attend school in their full winter uniform including grey coats and school hats (no beanies). (There will also be a Church Rehearsal on Monday 2nd December.) After the service on Tuesday 3rd, all children will be dismissed from St Anne’s Church at approximately 3:15pm. All Tuesday clubs will still be running and the children attending these clubs will be brought back to school. If you would like your child to return to school for collection or if someone else will be collecting your child, please let the office know by Monday 2nd December as the dismissal registers are completed the day before the event.
Parents of our Year 2 – Year 6 children are invited to join us for the Carol Service at St Anne’s Church and for a minced pie beforehand. Please arrive from 1:30pm for a prompt 1:45pm start.
We ask parents not to take photographs or videos on the day as this is not permitted in the church. Photographs will be taken at the dress rehearsal, and a link will be shared with parents.
There will be no swimming on Tuesday 3rd of December because of the Carol Service. This means that it will be a normal school day with no breakfast for Year 5 and 6. Tuesday 10th December is our last swim for 2024.
Chef Nay has been busy getting in the festive spirit and we are looking forward to our annual Christmas lunch on Thursday 12th December. The children will have a slightly longer lunch time to enjoy the festive feast.
At Broomfield, we run our own Christmas Jumper Day in aid of Kew Sparkle. The children can come to school wearing Christmas themed mufti and we would be grateful for a small donation of £1 or £2 which can be given to the class teacher.
Our long standing tradition of visiting the Cecil Court Residential Care Home for our annual carolling will take place on Tuesday 10th December at 11am. The Year 5 and Year 6 children, will walk to Cecil Court with Mrs Pache, Miss Fourie and teaching staff.
On Friday 6th December, everyone is invited to join in the fun at Kew Sparkle, (from 5pm – 8pm). There will be great stalls, fabulous food vans, fun activities for children and Santa will be in his grotto. Our Year 3 children will be singing on the stage in front of the station at 5.20pm, so please come and at this time to show your support for the children if you can.
For Year 3 Parents: Year 3 children will need to change out of their Christmas mufti and return to school for 4:45pm in full school uniform including school hats and grey coats. They will walk together into Kew Village in time for their performance. They will be dismissed to their parent/guardian following their performance. Please contact the office before midday if you are sending someone different to collect your child.
All children must be accompanied around the school market by parents or guardian. No children should be left unsupervised by parents/guardian at any time. The event begins at 7:30am and the bell will ring at the usual time of 8.30am when the children will line up as in their class lines. This is the handover point when the school will take responsibility and parents are free to leave their child and explore the market themselves.

We would like to share the below fundraiser that our wonderful art teacher Mrs Frey is doing. Any support would be be amazing.
In loving memory of our daughter Juliette, who attended Broomfield from Kindergarten to Year 6, we will be volunteering at the ‘Saved Seouls Foundation’, a dog and cat shelter in Thailand, in December.
Juliette had a special relationship with animals and was passionate about helping street dogs and abandoned animals. She loved traveling around Southeast Asia and volunteered at various dog shelters in Thailand and Indonesia. She had the plan to work at the ‘Saved Seouls Foundation’ in November last year. To continue her journey, we have decided to support the foundation in Khon Kaen.
Before we leave for Thailand next month, we would like to raise money for the shelter in memory of Juliette and hope that you can support us.
If you would like to contribute to our fundraising, please use the link to donate. We thank you for your generosity.

Last Friday, Year 3 enjoyed their first school trip to the British Museum. The children had the opportunity to explore the Egyptian galleries and observe artefacts to support their learning at school. The children were particularly interested in seeing the mummies! Well done Year 3 on a fantastic first school trip of the year!
Year 4 had a great trip to the Tower of London, diving into its rich history and exploring its iconic landmarks. The children were captivated by the stories of the Tower’s famous residents and its role in shaping British history. They explored the ancient walls, towers, and courtyards, imagining life in medieval times.
A huge thank you to everyone who supported the Mead House Raffle and Cake Sale. We particularly enjoyed the delicious cakes!
Last night, BHS hosted its 1st Wreath Event, ringing in the festive season with Christmas tunes, creativity, and community spirit. Thanks to everyone who pitched into help and special thanks to Mr Bourne and Mrs Carver Williams for their support on the night.

Tara’s Theatre Corner: A Spy Story with a Twist
This week, Tara showcased her creativity with an impressive theatre review! As part of her project, she interviewed her friend Zach from Year 6 to get his perspective. Great work, Tara and Zach!
Interview – Operation Mincemeat the musical.
Tara: Hi Zach, as the history enthusiast of our class, seeing Operation Mincemeat for your birthday must have been such a treat. Can you tell me what it’s about?
Zach: It’s set in England during World War 2 and it’s all about how MI5 tricked the Nazis into moving their troops away from Sicily to Greece and Sardinia, leaving Sicily for the taking!
Tara: So, a team of British spies pulled off the ultimate “Gotcha” prank that changed the course of the war? Impressive! I thought pranks were only for April Fool’s Day, but they managed to trick an entire army! Is the plot based on real events?
Zach: Yes, it is! There was a real Operation Mincemeat during the war, and the characters in the musical were real people—Charles Cholmondeley, Ewan Montagu, Hester Leggatt, Ian Fleming, Johnny Bevan, Jean Leslie… all members of British Intelligence.
Tara: Wait—Ian Fleming? Like, the guy who wrote James Bond? That explains a lot! I bet he was writing notes for 007 the whole time. Did you feel like you learned anything, or is it mostly funny?
Zach: A bit of both. As well as being extremely funny, it shows real-life events during the war, and you learn about how people felt and what they experienced back then.
Tara: So, it’s like a history lesson that makes you laugh. Sounds like a win-win. I’d love history so much more if every lesson came with spies and plot twists. What about the set and the music?
Zach: The music was unbelievable! The songs are really catchy and funny.
Tara: I think I heard you humming a few of those – I’d love to know what was your favourite part?
Zach: I don’t want to give too much away, so I’ll just say the German techno music in the second act—it was quite unexpected!
Tara: German techno music In a WW2 spy musical… Now that’s a twist!
Just when you thought you knew where things were going, it’s techno time. Would you recommend it to the kids at school?
Zach: Yes, probably for Year 4-6. Alana came with me, and she enjoyed it! It was a late night, though, so maybe not for a school night!
Tara: Good point! Seeing it sounds amazing, but not if we’re all falling asleep in class the next day! Thanks, Zach—Operation Mincemeat sounds like the best history lesson ever. Maybe we should suggest it as a year 6 trip!
Year 1 looked at the shape of owls. The children practised their observational skills, reflected on representing feathers and created an eye-catching design.
