DUKES PARENT QUESTIONNAIRE 2024

We are delighted to share with you this year’s Dukes parent survey for Prep Schools. We would really like to hear your thoughts about all areas of our provision, as well as the things that you like and improvements we can make, over the coming months. Please do answer as honestly as you can, and you can leave responses anonymous if you would prefer. You can access the survey on this link: Dukes Parent Questionnaire 2024   Please allow approximately 10 minutes to complete it.

ASSESSMENT WEEK

Looking ahead, we will be running our summer term assessments during the week commencing 10th June with a revision week w/c Monday 3rd June. It’s vital that pupils are in school for these important weeks where content is recapped, revisited and tested. Please arrange any appointments or planned absences in alternative weeks to help support with this.

 AUTHOR VISIT – Years 3 – 6

A reminder of our next amazing author visit by Pari Thomson, who will be coming to school on 22nd May 2024. Can you please complete the form (Click Here), return it to the school office and make a payment online, if you would like your child to receive a signed copy of the book. Thank you to everyone who has already done this.

SUMMER SAFETY

Please ensure your child has their school red baseball cap (Y1 – 6) or white legionnaires hat (PK and K) in their school bag every day throughout the summer term. Miss Sangtabi led a fantastic assembly this morning on sun safety and we follow a ‘no hat, no play’ (stay in the shade) policy during the summer months.

Year 6

BIKEABILITY WEEK

A reminder to our Year 6 Parents that our annual Bikeability Week will take place from Monday 13th to Friday 17th May. Please bring your child’s bike to school on the morning of Monday 13th May at 8:15am via the Broomfield Road gate (main reception) and leave it in the volleyball court beside the Year 4 classroom. The bikes will be securely stored overnight at school and should be taken home at the end of school on Friday. Children should wear their sports kit for the entire week and bring a water bottle with them as well as their helmets. High-vis vests will be given to the children for their training. If your child does not have a bike or helmet to use, please contact Mrs Doyle at the school office: office@broomfieldhouse.com

Year 5

KINGSWOOD 2024

The Year 5 children are excited for their residential trip to Kingswood next week. The children should come to school in their normal clothes on Wednesday along with their luggage for the trip. They can take their luggage to their classroom. The children can bring their own snacks on the trip but please remember that they cannot contain any nuts. The snacks will be checked by teachers to ensure they are safe so please have these in a separate bag. Everyone will enjoy an early lunch at school and will leave for Kingswood on the coach at around 12pm. Mrs Doyle will set up a WhatsApp group on the school trip phone where staff will keep parents updated at the end of each day with the highlights from that day. This phone can also be contacted if you need to reach the staff onsite in an emergency. Thank you to everyone who has completed the required medical form and returned it to the school office. If you are still to complete this, please do so as soon as possible.

No booking, no pressure. Just unorganised free play, for a few minutes or a few hours. Older children to go on their own. Parents may wish to accompany younger ones. Highlights

Spelling Bee Challenge

The 2024 Broomfield House School Spelling Bee took place on Wednesday 8th May.  After a class Spelling Bee in Year 6, the teams were selected for the three school Houses:
Palmer: Bethan, Faraaz and Noah
Mead: Ava, Austin and Nina
Rose: Millie, Hugo and Tara.
After two very close first rounds, we, unfortunately, said goodbye to Palmer (on 15 points).  Mead (on 21 points) and Rose (on 17 points) went on to meet in the final. Austin (Mead) and Tara (Rose) were selected by their teammates, to go head-to-head in the final round.  After a very tense and close competition, Mead were declared the winners of 2024!
Congratulations to all the teams for a brilliant performance!

Hampton Maths Competition

A team of keen mathematicians from Year 5 competed this week in the annual Hampton Maths Wizard competition against twenty other top performing schools. Anushka, Ella, Charlotte and Gusti concentrated their teamworking skills on five rounds of the most challenging mathematics imaginable. The children said the event was tremendously enjoyable and that it was amazing to be among such a great gathering of others equally passionate about maths problem solving. These experiences are invaluable in expanding the children’s experience and enthusiasm for maths and all it offers.

PK Kew Gardens Trip

Pre-Kindergarten had the most wonderful time at Kew Gardens on Wednesday. They explored giant Jurassic leaves and plants in the glass house and foraged for natural materials to make dinosaur footprints, before enjoying a picnic lunch and some time in the playground in the glorious sunshine. We even spotted a muntjac deer!

Artwork this week

Year 3 created monsters and placed them into a cityscape. The children learned how to build up a cityscape and practised their colouring skills.
