Thoughts from the Study

Merry Christmas

As the final Thoughts from the Study for this term and indeed the year, I want to share an abstract from the speech I delivery at our Carol Service at St Anne’s church in Kew a few weeks back.

As we gather here in this historic church, illuminated by the warm glow of the festive season, I am again reminded of what a privilege it is to be part of this vibrant and inspiring school. The end of the autumn term is always a time to reflect on our journey so far and look ahead with hope and excitement to the future.

This term has been nothing short of remarkable. We have seen your children grow in confidence, embrace challenges, and immerse themselves in the joy of learning. Whether it was mastering new concepts in the classroom, working together on projects, or rehearsing the beautiful carols we have heard today, they have demonstrated the values that define a Broomfield child.

At Broomfield, we believe that education is about so much more than just excellent academic achievement. Our mission is to inspire and empower children to flourish, not just here at school but for their entire life. We nurture them to become anti-fragile individuals, young people who face challenges with resilience, build strong, healthy relationships, and contribute positively to the world around them. Through every lesson taught, every character-building moment shared, and every virtue cultivated, we lay a foundation for happiness, well-being, and a deep sense of purpose.

The Christmas story offers us a poignant reminder of these values. In the journey of Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem, we see resilience and faith. In the kindness of those who provided them shelter, we see the power of community and compassion. These lessons echo through the carols we sing and the stories we share at this time of year. They remind us that even the smallest acts of kindness can bring about the greatest light.

Much like Mary and Joseph, our children are on their own journeys. Every day, they encounter challenges and opportunities to grow. They learn not only from their teachers and parents, but from each other, collaborating, supporting, and celebrating one another. This spirit of togetherness is the cornerstone of our school. It is what enables our children to rise to every challenge, embrace change, and prepare to be catalysts for a better world.

As we celebrate this festive season, let us take a moment to appreciate the incredible progress our children have made. Let us thank them for their boundless curiosity, their courage, and their kindness. They remind us of the simple yet profound truths that often go unnoticed in the busyness of life, that greatness lies in humility, that strength is found in community, and that joy can be found in the smallest of moments.

Parents, your support is integral to everything we achieve as a school. Thank you for entrusting us with your children and for walking this journey alongside us. I strongly believe that together, we are shaping a generation of young people who will go on to make the world a brighter and better place.

May this Christmas bring you and your families peace, joy, and the light of hope. And as we look to the year ahead, let us do so with the confidence that, together, we can face any challenge and embrace every opportunity.

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Kew Sparkle is now in its 17th year, on the first Friday of December, local businesses, community groups and the people of Kew come together to transform Kew Village into a vibrant festive wonderland. This year the event was sponsoring Sky Larks. Skylarks Charity supports young people with additional needs, and their families. They provide inclusive, enriching activities and support services such as educational workshops, recreational activities, and therapeutic sessions tailored to each person’s unique needs. Year 3 performed some Christmas Carols alongside other local schools in the area, helping to raise money for those in need at this time of year. Well done Year 3!

Cecil Court

Children in Year 5 and 6 walked down to Cecil Court on Tuesday this week to spread some festive cheer to the elderly. It was lovely to see both the younger and older generations coming together to sing some Christmas Carols.  It was a beautiful reminder of the power of community at this time of year.

Panto

This week, on Wednesday, we welcomed M&M Theatrical Productions for a fun and engaging pantomime performance. The actors performed brilliantly, captivating both children and staff alike. It was a wonderful opportunity for the children to immerse themselves in live theatre and enjoy a well-deserved treat in the last week of term.

Year 5 Trip

Year 5 had an unforgettable afternoon at the Lyric Theatre and were dazzled by the hilarious performance of Aladdin! Such an exciting way to end a very successful term, Year 5.
