Highlights

Dukes Great British Bake Off

We are celebrating World Book Day with a truly special treat this year! Following the success of yesterday’s incredible Dukes Great British Bake Off, we are launching our first-ever Dukes Great British Bake-Off Recipe Book with families this week.

Finalists from across the Dukes family showcased their delicious, book-inspired bakes to a panel of judges at Dukes House, and their creations were simply too yummy to resist! From magical cakes to literary-themed pastries, the creativity of all the finalists was nothing short of extraordinary.

We were delighted to be joined by Aatif Hassan, Chairman and Founder of Dukes Education, and Tim Fish, UK CEO, who celebrated the children’s fantastic creations alongside us.

A huge thank you also to all the English departments who took part, celebrating not just baking, but the love of books and storytelling through food. And last but not least, a special thank you to our very own Mrs Carver Williams, Head of KS1 at Broomfield House School, for her incredible work in organising this event!

Cicero Debating Cup Semi Final

The Broomfield House debating team this week won through to the national final of the annual Cicero Cup debating competition, for the third year in succession. This year’s competition has been bigger than ever before, with 100 top schools entered from across the country, which makes our mixed Year 5/6 team’s success all the more remarkable. Broomfield is the only school to have made it to the final three years in succession. Debating is a brilliant way to learn how to make and defend your case in any kind of discussion or negotiation and a great way to master vital life skills. We await news of the date and place of the final but it is sure to be a big occasion. Congratulations to all the children involved.

Inter-House Swimming Gala

The vibrant atmosphere of Teddington Swimming Pool played host to Broomfield House School’s eagerly anticipated inter-house swimming gala on Wednesday, March 5th, 2025. Pupils from Mead, Palmer and Rose houses dove into the competitive spirit, showcasing their aquatic skills.
The pool buzzed with excitement as children participated in a range of races, from swift freestyle sprints to elegant backstroke displays. Each swimmer demonstrated impressive dedication, their efforts met with enthusiastic cheers from the sidelines. The competition was fierce, with every house giving their absolute best. However, when the final scores were tallied, it was Mead house that emerged as the triumphant winner, taking home the coveted Gala trophy.
The event was a fantastic display of sportsmanship and school spirit. All the children performed admirably and the gala served as a wonderful celebration of their swimming abilities.
A huge thank you goes to Mr Pache for organising this thoroughly enjoyable event.

World Book Day

What a fantastic World Book Day at Broomfield! After celebrating the wonderful Dukes Great British Bake Off, honouring our star bakers and their delicious literary-themed creations, we showcased the incredible literary door designs. A special highlight? The unforgettable appearance of Travis Santos (aka Mr. Kennedy), who had the whole school in tears laughing! What a fun-filled morning and an amazing way to end the week.

A huge well done to all our families for the incredible effort with creative costumes – everyone looked amazing!

Year 6

On Monday 3rd March 2025, the Year 6 children travelled to Lavender Hill Magistrates’ Court (a working court handling criminal matters and single justice procedures). The children learned about the severity of having a criminal record and experienced the court process with a role play. At the end, the children were asked to think about whether they thought the defendant was innocent or guilty – an insight into the challenging decisions the magistrates are faced with on a daily basis.  We were also lucky to be allowed to visit the dingy and gloomy cells which have hopefully put the children off carrying out any criminal activities…!

Art Highlight

Year 5 studied the Austrian artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser. We discussed his ideas about architecture and looked at the abstract elements in his painting and prints. Inspired by his work the children created a building focusing on composition and colour contrasts.
