Miss Lovett will be opening the SOCS booking portal from today Friday 14th February from 3.30pm and it will be closed at midnight on Sunday 2nd March. So if you wish to sign your child onto a new club for the summer term, bookings should be made via the SOCS booking system. As usual, if you did a club in the spring term it will be automatically carried over to the summer term so there is no requirement to book in if your children wish to carry on with a current club. If you do not wish to carry on the club then please remember that if you wish to cancel a club or before/after school care arrangement, you will need to notify the office before the start of the spring 2 which is Monday 24th February 2025, after this time you have been counted in the numbers for the summer term and will be invoiced for the full term. The notice period for any clubs is half a terms notice to discontinue a club for the following term.
The schedule for clubs will remain the same for the summer term, apart from Techno Kids club which will be moving from Monday to Tuesday starting in the summer term. (It will continue to be on a Monday for the spring term). This club is dependant on numbers and specialises in Coding, STEM and AI.
Additionally, to sign up for Cookery Club and Technokids Club you must do this directly through their respective websites. Please find the attached flyers and the relevant links for further information.
Reminders: There will be no Eco Club on Monday 24th February and Monday 3rd March.

‘Last week, we launched the Broomfield House School Fireside Lecture Series with Jennifer Powers from PAPAYA, exploring the important and current hot debate of, “A Smartphone-Free Childhood.” As a government policy advisor and ex-Broomfield parent, Jennifer shared research backed insights on the impact of smartphone use on children’s mental health and how families can positivity navigate technology mindfully keeping in mind the lens of the child.
Beyond what parents can do at home, we also discussed the vital role schools play in helping children understand the potential downsides of excessive screen time.
Competing with ‘big tech’ for children’s attention may seem like an uphill battle, but if we are going to make any in roads, a positive and proactive school/home partnership is crucial.
Thanks to all who attended. We will be advertising the next event soon.’
-Mr Anstey
On Monday, Kindergarten went for a walk around Kew Village. The children looked out for road names, bus stops and all the different shops they could see. On Tuesday, they used their knowledge to draw their own maps of Kew.
On Friday 7th February, Year 3 celebrated the end of their fossils topic with a trip to the Natural History Museum. The children spent the day exploring the galleries and taking part in a Dino-Dig Fossils Workshop where they became paleontologists and uncovered dinosaur bones from thousands of years ago. Despite the wet weather, the children had a great day out!
On Thursday 6th February Year 4 had a fantastic trip at Hampton Court Palace. They were fascinated by the size of the kitchens and they thoroughly enjoyed a workshop about the court of Henry VIII.
Year 5 had an exciting visit to the RAF Museum and delved into Britain’s wartime history. We spent the morning exploring the many hangars of the museum and came face-to-face with Spitfires, Hurricanes and Lancasters, three significant aviation icons that played a crucial role in WWII.
After lunch, the children took part in a brilliant Air Raid Shelter and Blitz workshop, where they stepped back in time to experience what life was like during World War II. They discovered how civilians prepared for air raids and learned about the challenges of rationing. They tried on different military uniforms worn by pilots, soldiers, and other service personnel, giving them a sense of the roles and responsibilities of those who served in the RAF.
Year 1 had a fantastic time at Syon Park last Friday. The children braved cold conditions and wore their wellies with pride. They helped Scott to make a fire by cutting wood and enjoyed a warm squash around it! The children also went on a wonderfully wet walk and collected sticks for toasting marshmallows. They ended the session by singing ‘Down By The Bay’ and left feeling very jolly indeed!
Well done to everyone who received the Headmasters Award for spring 1. The recipents enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea with Mr Anstey today. Congratulations to Aaron (PK), Zane (K) (Absent from photo), Jules (Y1), Enna (Y2), Sophie (Y3), Ayan (Y4), Grace (Y5) and Sienna (Y6).
This week Eco Club concentrated on learning about the very valuable role Whales play in the balance of our oceans.
Through managing marine ecosystems and participating in nutrient cycling, they assist in supporting life in the marine environment. But they are under threat from pollution, climate change, increased shipping and hunting. And with around 11 species of Whale regularly visiting the waters around the UK they are closer than you think.
It is World Whale Day on 16th February.
The staff at Broomfield enjoyed a lovely valentines day treat today. A very delicious BHS biscuit was given to all staff from the wonderful PTA. A lovely thoughtful gesture that made everyone smile.

On Monday we kicked off the spring term with the Dukes Education Conference at Wembley. We are delighted to share that our Headmaster, Adam Anstey, and the school were honoured with the Wellbeing Initiative Award in recognition of the effective efforts to promote wellbeing among both children and staff.
This award is a true testament to what is one of the cornerstones of our philosophy and work at Broomfield.
With the theme “The Heart of Education” the conference provided a fantastic opportunity for professional development. Thought-provoking discussions explored the impact of AI, the future of education, and the critical importance of character development in shaping the young leaders of tomorrow.
