Let’s talk about children and their smartphones.
Open Class Morning – Year 1 and Year 2
We would like to invite parents of our Year 1 and Year 2 children to come for our Open Class Morning on Friday 31st January. The Open Class gives parents the opportunity to see where their child sits and the classroom environment. Then parents are invited for coffee with some of our SLT team to discuss any questions you may have.
PRE-KINDERGARTEN TRIP TO RED BEARD FOREST SCHOOL
Pre-Kindergarten are looking forward to their trip on Friday 31st January to the amazing Red Beard Forest School at Syon Park. The children will depart school at 9am and will return at approximately 12pm. The children should wrap up well with layers of clothing and warm boots/shoes as they will be outside for the entire session. Chef Nay will prepare snacks and the class will be back at school in time for a warm lunch. They will be exploring winter in the great outdoors, woodland crafts and building a campfire.
Dukes Plus are holding fun half term morning workshops at Dukes House during this February half term. The sessions run from Monday 19th February through to Friday 21st February. There is a wide variety of topics including songwriting, space and astronomy as well as public speaking and magical creatures! These workshops are geared towards Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 children and will be run by qualified and experienced senior members of the Dukes Tutoring team.

At our PTA meeting this week the PTA core team and Class Reps came together to start planning this year’s Summer Fair which will have a festival flavour to it! This is the main event in our PTA calendar where we raise money to help fund the magical extras the PTA provide for our children.
We would love volunteers who can help execute our 2025 Summer Fair plan – please reach out to Dale Filipek (PTA Chair) or Sara Khan/Kate Dossa (PTA core team).
This year we have moved the auction to the spring term, and it will be taking place in March and we would love your support to make it a huge success!
We are reaching out to ask if you would consider donating an item, experience, or service for the auction. Some examples of popular auction items include:
No contribution is too small, and all donations will be greatly appreciated. Your generosity will help ensure the success of this activity!
If you would like to contribute please contact:
Kate Dossa (Year 2)
Sara Khan (Years 1/4/6)
Dale Filipek (Years 2/6)
Thank you in advance for your kindness and support.
This week, Eco Club took part in the Big Bird Count for the RSPB. The children enjoyed spotting and identifying different bird species around the school grounds, using binoculars and bird charts to guide them. See more information about the Big Bird Count here. If you would like to take part at home you can download the identification sheet here: (Bird Count).
The Pledge Tree is now proudly displayed on the Eco Club notice board. We encourage all children and staff to use the provided template (Pledge Leaf) to complete their pledge for the tree. Once finished, pledges can be dropped into the box in the hallway next to the school office. Let’s work together to fill the tree with leaves next week!
We would like to congratulate Gigi on her incredible success over the weekend. She and her acrobatic partner won gold at the London League with the highest score. This weekend, they will be competing for a place in the inter-regional finals, proudly representing the whole of London. Good luck Gigi – we are very proud of you!
Year 5 was introduced to the application GIMP. The children worked with layers and learned to manipulate visual elements. While experimenting with this application they looked at composition and reflected on digital collage making.
The Year 6 girls played Sheen Mount school on Wednesday of this week. All the girls played really well and won the game 6-2. The opposition awarded Player of the Match was awarded to Charlotte Hughes. Well done to all involved.
Congratulations to Lenny (Y6) for winning Bronze medals in the Team Richmond Boys and Girls Cross Country at the London Youth Games. An incredible achievement. Well done Lenny.

Happy New Year from all of us at Broomfield!
On Monday we kicked off the spring term with the Dukes Education Conference at Wembley. We are delighted to share that our Headmaster, Adam Anstey, and the school were honoured with the Wellbeing Initiative Award in recognition of the effective efforts to promote wellbeing among both children and staff.
This award is a true testament to what is one of the cornerstones of our philosophy and work at Broomfield.
With the theme “The Heart of Education” the conference provided a fantastic opportunity for professional development. Thought-provoking discussions explored the impact of AI, the future of education, and the critical importance of character development in shaping the young leaders of tomorrow.

On Tuesday last week, children from Years 2 - 6 gathered at St. Anne’s Church to kick off the festive season with our annual Christmas Carol Service. Each year group contributed beautifully, and we felt immense pride listening to their lovely singing and instrument playing. An extra ‘well done’ to Year 6 who read the nine lessons brilliantly, telling us the story of the birth of Jesus. Thank you to everyone who joined us for this wonderful occasion.
