Mr Anstey's 150 Anniversary Challenge

As part of Broomfield House School’s 150th year, Mr Anstey will take on the challenge of running an extraordinary 100km (and a bit) across London on Friday 19th June, visiting Dukes Education schools along the route to raise funds for the Dukes Foundation Transformational Bursary Campaign.

Inspired by the brilliant children at Broomfield and across the wider Dukes family, and by the kindness, courage and community spirit they show so often, Mr Anstey felt it was important to have “skin in the game” and personally take on a challenge in support of a cause that creates opportunity for young people who need it most.

This is not about speed, records, or personal glory, all of these things are unlikely.

Instead, it is about using a difficult physical challenge to help shine a light on something far more important – widening access to transformational education and supporting children to flourish.

100km across London will require resilience, preparation, endurance and determination, qualities we speak about often with children at Broomfield, and values that sit at the heart of the Dukes Foundation’s work.

1 day. 1 city. 2 legs. 100km (and a bit).

We are looking forward to the Lower School Summer Serenade on Thursday 14th May. Any children in Y1- Y3 who have instrumental or singing tuition at Broomfield will have the opportunity to perform. Children who have individual music lessons externally are also welcome to perform.

Broomfield music teachers will email Miss Fourie directly with the list of their pupils performing. We ask that parents of children having lessons externally to email Miss Fourie. (ifourie@broomfieldhouse.com)

The concert starts at 6pm. The gate will open at 5:40pm (performers only) and at 5:50pm for parents. Performing children should go to the music room and parents should make their way to the hall.

Children will be dismissed as normal at 3:30pm (unless they are in clubs, then they will be dismissed at their usual end of club time). They will then return at 5:40pm to the Princes Road gate. All children should wear their full school uniform for the concert.

This event promises to be a lovely evening of music making for our younger Broomfield musicians. Please click here to reserve your ticket: Lower Summer Serenade Tickets

Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten

We are excited to welcome our Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten parents to our interactive Phonics Workshop. This session will give you the opportunity to step into your child’s shoes and experience what a phonics lesson looks like in school.

During the workshop, we will explore how phonics is taught, how we support children in developing their reading, writing and comprehension skills, and the strategies we use in the classroom to build confidence and success.

We will also provide practical and invaluable guidance on how you can support your child’s reading and writing development at home in fun and meaningful ways.

Dukes House, for year 4 and 5 students
Our Future Leaders Workshop challenges children to solve complex tasks as a team, fostering the resilience needed to handle unfamiliar situations with ease. Since leadership starts with listening and ends with clear communication, we help Year 4 and 5 students develop these vital habits early, ensuring they enter their later primary years feeling prepared, capable, and ready to contribute.

We’re off to Kew Gardens tomorrow to see a new Henry Moore exhibition that opens at the weekend. Moore was a passionate believer that sculpture is ‘an art of the open air’. Taking the great man’s words as a prompt, we have a round-up of new outdoor sculptures and statues to visit. Plus, some indoor crafty options if you want to get stuck into some ‘sculpting’ yourself.
It seems crazy to be thinking about half term when we have only just got back from the Easter break but after the bank holiday this weekend, it will be less than three weeks to go. We asked the team at dandelion.london for some suggestions of half term events and activities that require pre-booking.
Inspired by the inaugural exhibition at the new V&A East, we have come up with some suggestions for musical outings across London to put a spring in your step.

Highlights

Pupil Experience

The pupil council have collaborated excellently throughout the academic year to bring about positive change in the school community. From the class plants and the ‘Back to Broomfield’ day in the Autumn term, to the Forest School sessions for KS2 children and the creation of our Broomfield Poem in the Spring term – it has been a labour of love, an example of teamwork and an absolute honour to listen to the pupil voice and support the children in making Broomfield their home away from home. I’m delighted to be handing over this role to Mrs Harland who met with the pupil council today – watch this space as the summer term promises to be extra special!

A sincere thank you to the PTA who have championed every idea and made the children’s dreams a reality – we truly would not have been able to provide such a bespoke and elite pupil experience without your support, guidance and care.

Artwork of the Week

The Y2, Y3 and Y4 Art Club members have worked diligently to create papier-mâché hot air balloons. Through this project, the children had the opportunity to develop their dexterity and further explore the use of coloured tissue paper. To complete their hot air balloons, each child created a small figure using a variety of materials. The finished balloons are wonderfully decorative and are now displayed in our art room.

Summer Serenade

What a truly spectacular evening we enjoyed last night, celebrating the incredible musical talent we have at Broomfield. From piano, violins, drums, guitars and trumpets to beautiful singing, it was a fantastic showcase of our pupils’ hard work and enthusiasm.

A huge thank you to all our amazing performers, to the parents who were able to join us and support the children, and to the wonderful staff who helped make the evening such a success. Special thanks and congratulations also go to Miss Fourie and her fantastic peripatetic teachers for their dedication and support in nurturing our young musicians.

Best wishes to Mrs Carver-Williams

Today in assembly, we shared our warmest wishes to Mrs Carver Williams as she begins her maternity leave, marking her final day at Broomfield for now. We send our very best to Mrs Carver Williams, Aaron and Luca as they excitedly prepare to welcome the newest member of their family. We wish them all the happiness in the world during this very special time.

Gold Star Awards

¡Enhorabuena!
Many congratulations to our four Spanish Gold Star Award winners: Steven, Ayan, Frankie and Alana. A special mention must also go to Timmy the Goldendoodle, who played a starring role in Frankie and Alana’s presentation describing his daily routine in Spanish! The standard of work submitted by many Year 5 pupils was exceptionally high, but these projects were chosen because they demonstrated truly exceptional effort, creativity and dedication. Not only did the pupils showcase impressive technical skills, but the quality and ambition of their Spanish work was outstanding. Well done to all the pupils who took part — your enthusiasm and hard work were wonderful to see!

Matthew shines as Headmaster

Matthew was an excellent Headteacher for the Day today and embraced the role with enthusiasm and confidence. He started the day on gate duty, warmly welcoming everyone to school, before leading assembly with the support of Mr Anstey. During assembly, Matthew gave out awards and shared key information from the week.

He also spent time meeting with Mr Anstey in the Headteacher’s office, discussing important school matters. Very well done, Matthew – you did a fantastic job and represented the school brilliantly.

Charity 3D Shop

A message from Luca and Chris Y6

We are supporting Great Ormond Street Hospital to help children who are less fortunate than us. They perform life‑saving and life‑changing surgeries, giving children the chance to do things they couldn’t do before. We are proud to support this incredible charity and we hope you will support them too.

Well done to you both, a fantastic initiative.
