If your child missed having their flu vaccinations at school, please see below information on how to get one.
As the weather has become colder, please make sure all children are wearing coats to school. Staff will make sure the children are wearing them when outside at break/lunch times and when going to the sports field. Year 1 – 6 children should wear the smart grey coat with their uniform and the red sports coat only with PE/Games kit.
Just a reminder that children should not be wearing jewellery to school such as rings, bracelets, necklaces and dangling earrings as they can become caught and cause injuries. It can also become an issue if jewellery is lost or broken, as well as causing a distraction in the classroom. Children can however, wear small, stud type earrings, although these should be avoided on Games/PE days. If your child wears a piece of jewellery for religious reasons, please let the class teacher know.

We had the wonderful opportunity to celebrate and reflect on all the good things in life through poetry and singing during our Harvest Assembly. The children really did themselves proud and a special thank you to all the Year 6 parents who attended this morning. We are also grateful for the parents accompanying the children to help deliver the food donations to residents in our local area.
Our assembly this morning showcased Broomfield at its best and we hope you enjoy the happy and colourful pictures included in our newsletter following our celebrations this week.
Today’s Year 6 Harvest Deliveries brought smiles to many of our local Kew residents as the children delivered delicious harvest boxes to the community. This much-loved annual tradition is always a highlight of the school year and provides a wonderful opportunity for our pupils to connect and support others.
Despite the wet and windy weather, the Year 6 children showed fantastic resilience, kindness, and community spirit as they donned their hats and umbrellas for this special event. They represented the school beautifully, delivering each box with enthusiasm and care. Well done, Year 6, for making such a positive difference and helping to spread warmth and happiness throughout our local community.
Congratulations to all of our superstar runners who braved the wind and rain for our final run of the year! Despite the challenging weather conditions, the children showed tremendous determination, resilience and enthusiasm, making us incredibly proud.
It was wonderful to see so many parents and family members gathered at Gail’s to cheer the runners on and celebrate their achievements. Your support helped make the occasion even more special and created a fantastic atmosphere for our final run of the season.
After crossing the finish line, the children were delighted to enjoy a well-earned Halloween treat!
A huge thank you to all of our runners for their commitment and energy throughout the year. We look forward to welcoming you back in Spring 2.
A huge congratulations to Freddie, Diego, Renee, Georgina, Kanna, Kade, Theyab and Nehir, who are this half term’s proud recipients of the Headteacher’s Award.
These awards recognise pupils who have consistently demonstrated outstanding effort, a positive attitude to learning, and a commitment to our school values. We are incredibly proud of all they have achieved and the example they set for their classmates. Well done to all our winners, and keep up the fantastic work!
One of the fantastic ideas suggested in the pupil ideas box was to have card games that could be played at break times. Our Pupil Council have been able to make this wish a reality, and this week the children have been busy playing (and teaching each other) some classic card games, as well as Uno and Top Trumps. There have been some seriously speedy games of Snap, and a Gruffalo Happy Families game also proved very popular! It was fantastic to see the children enjoying tried and tested favourites, as well as learning some exciting new games from each other.
PK enjoyed a special behind the scenes tour of the school kitchen with Chef John! They discovered the different equipment used, learnt about the chefs’ daily jobs and found out why chefs wear special uniforms. It was a wonderful opportunity to explore the kitchen and learn more about the important work that goes into preparing our school meals. A big thank you to Chef John and the kitchen team for giving us such a fantastic glimpse into life in the school kitchen.
The children in Year 1 have been designing and writing their own version of Julia Donaldson’s What The Ladybird Heard. As a class, they mapped out each section of the story before choosing their own characters and writing their own zig-zag book, taking care to use capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. Take a look at some of their amazing work!
Year 3 have had an exciting week of learning, particularly in our foundation subjects! In History, the children designed and made their own Ancient Egyptian sarcophagi out of clay. They showed great creativity and care with their designs, and after half term they will be painting their finished models.
In Geography, the children rounded off their learning about land use in the UK by working in teams to design a brand-new “Kew Village” using Lego. They carefully included different types of land use, such as agricultural, industrial, commercial and residential areas. Once their villages were complete, the children took on the role of estate agents, presenting and “selling” their designs to other teams. It was wonderful to see them applying their geographical knowledge while developing their teamwork, communication and presentation skills.
Over the last two weeks, Year 4 have thoroughly enjoyed designing, creating and painting their own Viking shields as part of our History and English topic. The children carefully planned their shield designs before using bottle tops and newspaper to add impressive 3D features. They then worked collaboratively to cover their shields with Mod Rock, showing great patience and teamwork throughout the process. This week, we completed the final stage by painting our shields, bringing our wonderful creations to life. The finished shields look fantastic and are now ready to be taken home. It has been a lovely project, and we have been so impressed by the creativity, perseverance and teamwork shown by everyone involved!
In science this week, Year 5 were investigating the factors that affect the time it takes for a sugar cube to dissolve.
The children had to measure the temperature of the water before they started, then add the sugar cube and time how long it took to dissolve whilst stirring.
The variable being changed: is the temperature of the water.
The variable being measured: time taken to dissolve.
The variables being controlled: the amount of water, the amount of sugar and the speed of stirring.
Year 4 have worked with great dedication on their Harvest still-life artwork. The children explored composition, developed their observational skills and reflected on colour contrast, while also refining their oil pastel techniques. Their vibrant creations are now part of our Harvest display.
The members of our Tuesday and Wednesday art clubs have also been busy creating beautiful clay pumpkin decorations for Halloween.
