Remembrance Day and Poppies

On Wednesday 11th November, we will hold our annual Remembrance Day Service in the school playground. Please ensure that children are smartly dressed wearing their full winter school uniform, including hats and coats. We invite parents to join us as we observe 2 minutes silence followed by the last post. Parents should come to the Princes Road gate for 10:55am. Our Head Girl and Head Boy will be selling Poppies next week in school to raise money for the Royal British Legion Charity. There will also be some available on Wednesday before the ceremony which can be bought with cash only.

Odd Socks Day

Odd Socks Day will take place on Tuesday 10th November. As part of our celebrations, children are invited to come to school wearing their favourite odd socks with their usual school uniform. This fun event encourages children to celebrate individuality, embrace diversity and remember that our differences make us all unique. We look forward to seeing a wonderful variety of colourful and mismatched socks across the school! 🧦

Rose House Cake Sale

The children are very much looking forward to the raffle and cake sale on Friday 13th November to raise money for the Chrysalis Youth Empowerment Project in Uganda.  Mr Bourne would like to remind you to please send in £1 next week so your child can join in with the raffle which will be drawn during assembly on Friday.

The cake sale will take place in the playground at pick up on Friday, so please would whoever is collecting your child from school bring some 50p and £1 coins to purchase a suitable delicious treat or two. The children will need to be supervised when purchasing cakes, so that any food allergies or intolerances can be managed by families.

For Rose House Families

Raffle: If you would like to donate a raffle prize please give them to your children who can bring them to Mr Bourne in the Year 4 classroom from Monday. Alternatively, you can leave them with class teachers or in the office.

Cake Sale: We hope you will enjoy baking scrumptious goodies for Friday.  Each Rose House child will have been given an allergy checker sticker for you to complete. These should be stuck onto your cake box. If you haven’t received one, please come to the office to collect one.  The completed forms will ensure we meet food safety requirements and are clear about any allergens used in your baking, so parents of children with allergies will know which cakes are suitable for their children.  No items must contain nuts/peanuts, this is so important as we have children with severe nut allergies in school. Cakes can be brought to the Year 4 Study Room on Friday morning at 8:15am.

Thank you in advance for your baking efforts!

Christmas cards and festive tea towels

You can now purchase the 2026 Broomfield Christmas cards and tea towels, featuring artwork created by our talented pupils on the PTA merchandise platform.

These limited-edition items make lovely Christmas gifts and lasting keepsakes, capturing a snapshot of our school community this year.

All proceeds from sales will support Saved Souls Foundation, the animal rescue charity.

Mrs Frey has displayed the art work in the Atrium if you’d like to go and take a look.

Introducing The Giving Tree

This month, the PTA is delighted to launch The Giving Tree, a wonderful initiative created by KidsOut, a fantastic charity dedicated to spreading kindness and bringing moments of joy to children at Christmastime.

Last year, KidsOut gifted 73,269 toys and brought a little extra happiness to children across the UK who had experienced family trauma, faced difficult domestic circumstances or who had been forced to flee unsafe or unstable home environments.

This year, we’re excited to play our part. Look out for more details over the coming weeks on how your family can get involved and help spread a little kindness and Christmas magic this December. ✨

PTA Highlights

A boo-tastic event!

Thank you to everyone who joined us at the Halloween party last week! It was a brilliant event with lots of spook-tacular surprises and fun for all. Many thanks to PK and Year 2 reps for their hard work and efforts, and also to Lucasz for all of the pre-prep and Mrs Roberts for her wonderful support on the day. And a special mention to Mr Tam and Mrs Chan, parents from PK/Y4, who made and painted all of the incredible props.

Highlights

Isabella's 150 Challenge!

A huge well done to Isabella in Year 6, who took on a fantastic “150 for 150” challenge to celebrate the 150th anniversary. With the support of her family, friends and neighbours, Isabella collected and donated over 150 much-needed items for Richmond Foodbank, including food, toiletries and household essentials. After designing her own flyers and delivering them around the local community, Isabella’s appeal received an incredible response. The donations were warmly received by the foodbank team, who were extremely grateful for the generosity shown. We are so proud of Isabella for demonstrating such kindness, initiative and community spirit. What a wonderful way to mark this special milestone year!

Eco Club

This week the Eco Club team concentrated on supporting the Dukes Tech Challenge that is taking place during November. The committee, with the help of new team member Diego, set about making their own posters to decorate the Eco Club noticeboard to inform their fellow students about this great initiative. We are asking all students to donate any unwanted and unused IT devices so they can be either recycled or reused  responsibly. Whether it be an old switch, phone, iPad, router or even old wires, please bring into school and place in the big purple bin. This is a national initiative which runs across all Dukes schools so let’s ensure that the families of Broomfield House do their bit to help reduce the amount of e-waste that goes to landfill.

All items will be wiped of all data and your donations will help Dukes in their pledge to be a zero-to-landfill organisation.

Chess Club

This week saw the launch of our very first Chess Club session in the Year 4 classroom, and what a fantastic start it was! The club takes place every Tuesday breaktime and is expertly led by our very own chess champion, Lucas, in year 5.

We would love to see even more budding grandmasters joining us to test their skills, learn new strategies and enjoy a friendly battle across the chessboard. Whether you’re a seasoned player or just beginning your chess journey, all children from Years 3 to 6 are welcome to come along and join in the fun.

With plenty of checkmates, clever moves and perhaps the occasional dramatic defeat, we’re hoping to see our Chess Club continue to grow throughout the year. We look forward to welcoming many more players in the weeks ahead!

Harvest Food Bank Donations

Mrs Wrigley Smith recently delivered the school’s Harvest donations to the Richmond Foodbank on behalf of Broomfield. Thanks to the incredible generosity of our families, a fantastic collection of food and essential items was donated to help support local people in need.

Diwali Celebrations

During our Wednesday RE assembly, Kaira (Y5) and her sister, Alyssa (Y1), shared the story of Diwali with the whole school, helping us to learn more about this important Festival of Lights. Kaira also wore her beautiful traditional dress, giving everyone a wonderful insight into the culture and traditions associated with the celebration. At the end of the assembly, the girls answered lots of thoughtful questions from the children, sharing their experiences of how Diwali is celebrated with family and friends. We would like to thank Kaira and Alyssa for such an engaging and informative presentation that helped bring this special festival to life for us all.

Year 1

It has been a fun and busy week in Year 1 with celebrations for Bonfire Night, Diwali and a trip to Red Beard Forest School. All the children participated excellently in their learning of different celebrations around the world.

Year 3

Year 3 had lots of fun on Monday painting their marvellous sarcophagi! The children took great care in following their designs and perfecting their creations! They were extremely proud of their finished clay sarcophagi. Well done, Year 3!

Year 5

This week, Year 5 have been working on a Dukes Plus Dragons’ Den Competition, for which they had to take an everyday object and improve it, applying their design, communication and entrepreneurial skills.

All of the designs were truly innovative, but following a tight vote, the team behind ‘Squirt Brush’ came out the winners and Jane, Olive, Lucas and Gabriel will be representing Broomfield at the competition next week.

Art Work of The Week

The Kindergarten children created pumpkin paintings inspired by the Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama. They explored the characteristics and shape before drawing a large pumpkin using broad felt-tip pens. Next, they painted the pumpkins and decorated them with dots, focusing on creating their own patterns and designs.

The children have also recently completed their house collages, which they thoroughly enjoyed making. The results are a collection of lively, colourful and imaginative buildings.
