Pupil Experience

Last Friday was election day at Broomfield House School! The children were tasked with the very important job of voting in their new Pupil Council representatives. Everyone gathered in their houses, and many of the children pitched their ideas for how their school experience could be even more wonderful. The children were enthusiastic and shared some excellent ideas including having board games at break time or having a colouring club! Thank you to Mrs Zammit, Mr Bourne and Mrs Thompson for organising their houses on polling day. Badges were handed out in assembly to all those who are on this year’s brilliant Pupil Council. Watch this space to see what they have in store for the year ahead!

Kindergarten

Another great week in Kindergarten! This week we had our first Read Write Inc sessions and everyone joined in enthusiastically which was lovely to see. In literacy we discussed about the things we couldn’t do when we were a baby, and how it important to try our best and keep practising until we are able to do it! In Maths we consolidated our understanding of one more and one less. 

This Friday you will find your first optional homework activity in your schoolbag. Have a lovely weekend! 

Year 1

We have had another great week in Year One! The children are settling well into routines and are enjoying their lessons. This week we have looked at toys from the past and present, sentence writing in literacy, counting on one more in maths, labelling body parts in science and human and physical features in geography.  

The children have been given their first home learning task this week. Please feel free to help them through it and use a range of materials (cubes, fingers, counters and objects) to consolidate their learning in maths. Spellings consist of the first 5 red words. Have a great weekend!

Year 2

Year 2 had a fantastic morning at Forest School.  Scott, in his inimitable style, had the children in thrall for 2 hours.  They learnt all about deciduous and evergreen trees, and made their own creatures using clay and items from the ‘forest floor’.  They were shown how to safely use a billhook, chopping pieces of wood with Scott’s help.  After a fire was lit, the morning was wrapped up with the usual singsong, courtesy of Scott and his ukele.  A fun morning all round.

Year 3

Year 3 have had a jam-packed week of learning! A highlight was our science lesson, where we learned about different bones in the skeleton. In teams, the children made their own skeletons, labelling the bones. It was wonderful to see the children work so well together. We also wrote diary entries as though we were an Ancient Egyptian from the past – the children were blown away by the fact that Ancient Egyptian houses had holes in the walls as windows! Excitingly this week, one child will get to take home Paddington, our class bear. I’m looking forward to seeing all the adventures he will go on! Well done on another great week Year 3, it’s lovely to see how well you have all settled in.  

Year 4

Working in teams, the children created fantastic plasticine models of the human digestive system! While the colours may not match those of a real digestive system, the models brilliantly demonstrate the children’s understanding, creativity and teamwork. 

Year 5 History

In history, Florence brought in her collection of World War One medals to share with the class. She explained the significance of the medals and shared what she knew about the family member who had received them. This provided the class with a fascinating opportunity to examine real historical artefacts and consider how primary sources can help us understand the experiences of people from the past. Thank you Florence!

Jeans for Genes Day 2026

Today our school proudly took part in Genes for Jeans Day, with pupils and staff wearing their favourite jeans to help raise awareness and support children and families affected by genetic conditions.

Artwork of the Week

The children in Year 6 have been working since last term on an installation of clay figures for the ISA Art Competition. Each child has created a figure with an animal head and a human body, placed on a base. The 25 pieces will be assembled in a spiral formation to be presented at the competition.We’ll keep our fingers crossed that our entry will be successful!

Eco Club

Eco Club returned to Broomfield House school on Monday 7^th September and we would like to introduce you to our Eco Champions:

Amelia Year 2 – Amelia is our newest member and she grew her own vegetables over the summer and planted tomato seeds.

Emilia Year 2- Emilia one of our youngest members has promised to water the plants and help nature.

Ryan Year 3- Ryan would like to plant flowers to help the bees this year.

Tamara Year 3- Tamara has pledged to use pencils instead of pens.

Felix Year 4- This summer Felix ensured he didn’t waste paper.

Lily Year 4- Lily has pledged to use less paper.

Magnus Year 6- A true Eco Champion, this is Magnus’ third year in Eco Club and this summer Magnus ensured his family used less plastic and recycled. He also saved bees.

And this week we were straight to work designing posters to promote Global Clean up Day on Sunday 20^th September. This year’s theme is ‘From clean plates to clean cities’ and so we encourage the families of Broomfield House to not only ensure they put their litter in the bin but to also look to reduce their food waste.
