Our Harvest Festival Assembly will be taking place on Friday 23rd October, and we are planning on making the same donation requests as last year. We ask all families in Years 4, 5 and 6 to fill a decorated shoebox with foodie treats: a small box of chocolates, a packet of fancy biscuits, lovely jams or chutneys for example. The recipients of your generosity are elderly and housebound residents of Kew, and the gifts will be hand-delivered by small groups of Year 6 children during the afternoon of Friday 23rd. We are grateful to the Kew Neighbourhood Association which supports us in identifying those in need. All other year groups are asked to give donations of food which will be delivered to Richmond Food Bank. Please follow this link to see a list of food currently needed: Richmond Food Bank Donations. All donations will be collected in the Atrium during the week beginning 19th October. Year 6 parents are invited to join us for the assembly at 9am and we anticipate it will be finished by 10.15am. Year 6 parent volunteers are also needed to support the children with making the deliveries. Thank you in advance for your generosity in supporting our Harvest causes.
The SOCS booking portal will be opening on Wednesday 21st October from 6pm and will close Monday 2nd November 6pm.
If you would like to sign your child up for any new clubs for the Spring term, please do so via SOCS booking system during this period (except for Cookery Club). If your child is already in a club, their place will automatically continue into the Spring term unless you cancel it within the above dates. Cancellations must be made through the SOCS portal during the sign‑up/opt‑out window as all clubs require half a term’s notice to cancel.
A gentle reminder that we are unable to swap regular afternoon sessions in Risings 3s and Pre-Kindergarten. The only exception to this is for our Rising 3s children, to ensure they have the opportunity to take part in trips and other enriching experiences if they would like to attend.
If you require additional ad hoc afternoon sessions, we will always do our very best to accommodate this where possible. We kindly ask that you provide as much notice as possible to help us with planning ahead.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support.
Following feedback from families, we have been working with our partners at Pee-Wee Karate and are delighted to share that they have agreed to offer a new session for Pre-Kindergarten pupils starting at 12.00pm and finishing at 12:30pm. This means that all Pre-Kindergarten children will now be able to take part, including those who do not stay for the full day on Mondays.
The new session will run subject to sufficient interest, so if your child would like to participate, we would encourage you to sign up by 19th October by emailing the office on office@broomfieldhouse.com.
We are excited to relaunch a Chess Club for pupils in Years 3-6, starting after October half term and taking place every Tuesday morning break in the Year 4 classroom. Chess Club is open to all abilities, from complete beginners to experienced players. It is a fantastic opportunity to learn new strategies, develop problem-solving skills, challenge friends, and enjoy the game in a fun and supportive environment. This is a drop-in club, so no booking is required – simply come along and join in!
See below a Chess teaser, can you solve the puzzle below? Share your ideas with our Chess Champion Lucas in Y5!

Wreath-Making Night, Please note the change of date to Wednesday 2nd December @7pm: for parents, in partnership with our friends at Trindle in the village.
Today, we hosted Broomfield’s Great Exhibition, showcasing the fantastic Victorian projects created by our Year 6 pupils. The children brought their learning to life with an impressive range of presentations and activities, including theatre performances, cricket and football.
The pupils did an outstanding job, demonstrating tremendous creativity, enthusiasm and hard work. It was a wonderful celebration of their learning and, without doubt, our best Great Exhibition yet! We are incredibly proud of everything they have achieved.
As you will see, Rose have now added a splash of purple to our line up of amazing pieces of house art, which will be displayed in the Broomfield Room. It will look brilliant on the wall alongside Palmer’s green masterpiece and Mead’s glittery yellow creation. Rose’s artwork includes detailed drawings of roses and even a purple octopus! You will also see that they have proudly included their house motto “Rose will, Rose will rock you!”. The children showed real house spirit and worked together wonderfully to make a truly collaborative piece of art. Well done Rose House!
In this week’s eco club we celebrated nature by making our own nature books. The children used leaves, flowers and twigs to decorate their own nature books that they can fill with pictures of clippings from nature. Tamara started filling her book straight away with some of the important eco messages she has learnt over the last term. We were also delighted to welcome Georgina to Eco Club.
Our swimming squad performed brilliantly at the recent ISA Regional Swimming Gala at ACS Cobham, showcasing excellent technique, determination and team spirit throughout the competition. The children represented Broomfield exceptionally well, and it was fantastic to see their hard work in the pool paying off.
A special congratulations goes to Frankie in Year 6, who has once again qualified for the ISA National Swimming Championships in the breaststroke. In addition to this fantastic achievement, Frankie has also earned a place in the freestyle relay team, making it an exciting opportunity to represent the school on the national stage.
Well done to all our swimmers for their outstanding efforts. We are incredibly proud of the squad and look forward to seeing Frankie compete at Nationals!
As part of our Harvest learning, our PK and Rising 3 children have been busy making their very own bread, just like the Little Red Hen! With the wonderful help of Chef John, we prepared all the ingredients and learnt some expert tips along the way. The children loved getting hands-on, exploring the ingredients and discovering the magic of bread making. Our bread rolls were delicious!
Year 3 conducted an exciting science investigation all about how our heart rate changes after exercise! We all made predictions and then went onto the playground to conduct the investigation. Many of our predictions were correct – and the running team’s heart rate increased the most! A great lesson, Year 3! Next week we will be writing up our conclusion.
This week Year 5 had their first taste of debating! ‘Noisy Classroom’ came in to deliver a wonderful workshop, teaching them the structure of a real parliamentary style debate. They practised presenting for the proposition, the opposition, making rebuttals and adding in points of information. By the end of the morning, they all sounded incredibly professional and confident. It was wonderful to see the children’s enthusiasm, and to hear their ideas on topics such as whether children should be allowed phones, and whether teachers should wear school uniforms!
On Monday, Year 5 enjoyed a visit to Kew Gardens to sketch plants found in some of the biomes they have been learning about in geography.
The children in Year 1 explored the artwork of the painter Jean Dubuffet and created their own portraits inspired by his abstract style. They experimented with free-flowing lines, discovered colour combinations and developed their felt-tip pen skills. The final results are a collection of unique and expressive portraits.
During our Friday assembly, Mr Johnson, our Broomfield drum teacher, explained to the children the different ways of playing the drums. He talked about the different styles of music and the matching styles and techniques of playing. Thank you to Steven (Y6), one of Mr Johnson’s pupils for playing one of his pieces as part of the demonstration.
Parents of children in Y3, Y4 and Y5 should email Miss Fourie if their child is interested in having a trial lesson with Mr Johnson.
Miss Fourie
A huge congratulations to the seven pupils who were awarded Gold Stars for their outstanding Victorian projects! Each award earns the recipient five house points and a special gold badge to wear with pride.
