As the weather has become colder, please make sure all children are wearing coats to school. Staff will make sure the children are wearing them when outside at break/lunch times and when going to the sports field. Year 1 – 6 children should wear the smart grey coat with their uniform and the red sports coat only with PE/Games kit.
Jewellery:
Just a reminder that children should not be wearing jewellery to school such as rings, bracelets, necklaces and dangling earrings as they can become caught and cause injuries. It can also become an issue if jewellery is lost or broken, as well as causing a distraction in the classroom. Children can however, wear small, stud type earrings, although these should be avoided on Games/PE days. If your child wears a piece of jewellery for religious reasons, please let the class teacher know.
Our Harvest Festival Assembly will be taking place on Friday 23rd October, and we are planning on making the same donation requests as last year. We ask all families in Years 4, 5 and 6 to fill a decorated shoebox with foodie treats: a small box of chocolates, a packet of fancy biscuits, lovely jams or chutneys for example. The recipients of your generosity are elderly and housebound residents of Kew, and the gifts will be hand-delivered by small groups of Year 6 children during the afternoon of Friday 23rd. We are grateful to the Kew Neighbourhood Association which supports us in identifying those in need. All other year groups are asked to give donations of food which will be delivered to Richmond Food Bank. Please follow this link to see a list of food currently needed: Richmond Food Bank Donations. All donations will be collected in the Atrium during the week beginning 19th October. Year 6 parents are invited to join us for the assembly at 9am and we anticipate it will be finished by 10.15am. Year 6 parent volunteers are also needed to support the children with making the deliveries. Thank you in advance for your generosity in supporting our Harvest causes.
Please find attached to the newsletter email, a letter for the upcoming Flu Vaccination programme on the Thursday 15th October in the morning. The vaccine is offered to all pupils from Kindergarten to Year 6.

Following feedback from families, we have been working with our partners at Pee-Wee Karate and are delighted to share that they have agreed to offer a new session for Pre-Kindergarten pupils starting at 12.00pm and finishing at 12:30pm. This means that all Pre-Kindergarten children will now be able to take part, including those who do not stay for the full day on Mondays.
The new session will run subject to sufficient interest, so if your child would like to participate, we would encourage you to sign up by 15th October by emailing the office on office@broomfieldhouse.com.
We are delighted to welcome Mrs Legroux to the Broomfield Music Department. Mrs Legroux has already taught several of our pupils and will be providing piano lessons at Broomfield every Wednesday.
From after half term, we will also be offering Broomfield parents the opportunity to book Mrs Legroux as an accompanist for children taking music examinations.
If your child is already entered for a music exam in November or December and requires an accompanist, please contact Miss Fourie for further information at ifourie@broomfieldhouse.com.
We look forward to expanding the musical opportunities available to our pupils.
Dukes Festival of Stories is back this November! In her role as Group Education Director, Libby Nicholas is at the forefront of Dukes Education’s thinking on AI. In a series of talks for Dukes Club parents, Libby will explore the current and potential impact of AI on children and young people’s learning, as well as Dukes Education’s approach and strategy.
This week we have looked ahead and suggested some workshops and events over half term that are being booked quickly. There are heaps to choose from. Plus, a story festival at the Imperial War Museum, spooky drawing in Dulwich and our favourite Halloween trail.

Similar to last year’s popular event, there will be welcome drinks and canapés included in the ticket price which is being hosted in a private area of a great local venue.
Ticket purchasing is now open on ClassList, with the deadline for purchase being 30th October. We are looking forward to seeing you there to celebrate ahead of a busy end to the school term!

Each year, we enter a number of accomplished pieces of artwork into the regional ISA competition and we are absolutely delighted to have won three 1st place prizes and one highly commended! Our ‘150 Years of Broomfield House School’ collage, to which every child at the school contributed a small drawing, was awarded 1st prize in the Group 2D category. Year 6’s outstanding clay piece was chosen as the winner of the Group 3D category.
Congratulations also to Linna in Kindergarten, whose eye-catching bunny received 1st prize in the Early Years category and to Enna in Year 4, whose beautiful lizard was highly commended.
A huge congratulations to all our talented pupils for their creativity and hard work!
Following in Palmer’s footsteps, this week it was Mead’s turn to create their piece of group art. The children from Mead house worked together wonderfully to make a masterpiece that reflected their values, including their motto ‘Mead the speed, they’re in the lead!’, and “we are kind, caring and helpful.” As you can see from the picture, the results were amazing, featuring some impressive lion drawings and a healthy dose of glitter! It will be such a ray of sunshine on the walls of the Broomfield Room. Next week it will be Rose’s turn to create their artwork – watch this space!
Some of the team continued to work on their marine animals, illustrating how plastic rubbish in the ocean can work itself into that food chain. We made a giant shark, that was not only consuming plastic itself but also feasting on other animals that had eaten plastic. We also discussed the specific effects the plastic rubbish is having on marine turtles, especially the Hawksbill turtle which is now on the endangered animal list due to an 80% decline in numbers. Turtles are not only eating the plastic rubbish mistaking it for food but also becoming tangled up in it and then being unable to swim to the surface to breathe. One turtle was examined and found to have ingested over 100 pieces of plastic. The team all made turtles and we updated the school noticeboard to educate others on their plight.
On Wednesday 7th October, local author Nat Harrison came to Broomfield House School and talked about her book “The Girl who Raced the World” and her adventures in assembly. The children listened enthusiastically and asked many questions on her book so hopefully this will encourage their love of reading.
If your child still wants to purchase a book by Monday 12th October, we still have a few left at school so please click on the link here: Click here to purchase “The Girl who Raced the World” Book
Our Year 4 and Year 5 girls competed in their first netball tournament on Saturday. Across eight matches, the girls had the opportunity to try new positions, develop their netball skills, and gain valuable match experience. It was wonderful to see all of the children putting their training into practice and impressing us with their shooting skills during the breaks between rounds. Throughout the tournament, the girls demonstrated great determination, teamwork, and enthusiasm. We thoroughly enjoyed coaching the team and are incredibly proud of the way they played with smiles on their faces, supported one another, and celebrated each other’s successes! Their positive attitude and sportsmanship were a credit to the school.
A huge thank you to all the parents who came along to watch. Your support helped keep the girls’ spirits high throughout an early Saturday morning and was greatly appreciated by both the players and coaches.
Well done, girls! We look forward to seeing your continued progress this season.
The Broomfield boys football team took part in a 5-aside tournament on Saturday at Hampton School. They competed brilliantly throughout the day, finishing an impressive 4th place against some tricky Year 6 teams! Although some of the results did not go their way, the children showed fantastic determination, teamwork and resilience in every match.
The team supported one another, worked hard from start to finish and represented the school with great enthusiasm, respect and sportsmanship, the Broomfield way! We were incredibly proud of their positive attitude and the way they never gave up, even when faced with strong opposition.
A huge thank you to the parents who came along to support the team, your encouragement was greatly appreciated.
Well done Year 5 and Year 6 boys!
Year 5 are learning about ‘Mixtures and Separation’ in science. This week, the children made their own water filters, combining different sized materials to make their filters. They then added very muddy water and were amazed by the results!
Huge congratulations to Ella on achieving a Distinction in her LAMDA exam! All your hard work, dedication and confidence have really paid off. We are so incredibly proud of you, Ella, what an amazing achievement!
