As we embrace another exciting half-term ahead, we would like to kindly remind everyone about our phone usage policy. To create a focused, engaging and respectful environment for our students, we ask that parents refrain from using their phones while on school grounds, including during performances and activities.
Rest assured, the school will capture all those special moments through photos and videos to share with you afterwards! This policy also extends to school trips, where we encourage parents to fully immerse themselves in the experience.
Thank you for your cooperation and support in helping us create memorable experiences for our children!
A gentle reminder that, as the warmer weather arrives, children should come to school with sun cream already applied, along with a sports cap and a named water bottle. We want to ensure that all children can enjoy outdoor play safely in the sunshine.
Unfortunately, we do not have enough spare hats for everyone, so children who do not bring a hat may need to remain in the shade during outdoor activities.
We do have a supply of sunscreen in school (Soltan Kids Protect and Moisturise SPF 50+) which we can use in emergencies. However, if your child has an allergy to sunscreen, please inform Mrs Matthewson by emailing office@broomfieldhouse.com so that we do not apply this product.
For children with sensitivities or specific needs, you may wish to send in a named sun cream for them to use.
Thank you for your support in helping us keep all children safe during the sunny weather.
The children are very much looking forward to the raffle and cake sale on Friday 5th June to raise money for the Mondo Foundation helping Pioneer School in India. Miss Bendall would like to remind you to please send in £1 the week after half term so your child can join in with the raffle which will be drawn during assembly on Friday 5th June.
The cake sale will take place in the playground at pick up on Friday 5th June, so please would whoever is collecting your child from school bring some 50p and £1 coins to purchase a suitable delicious treat or two. The children will need to be supervised when purchasing cakes, so that any food allergies or intolerances can be managed by families.
For Mead House Families
Raffle: Please donate raffle prizes and give them to your children who can bring them to Miss Bendall in the Year 3 classroom. Alternatively, you can leave them with class teachers or in the office.
Cake Sale: We hope you will enjoy baking scrumptious goodies for Friday 5th June. Each Mead House child will be given an allergy checker sticker (on Monday 1st June) for you to complete. These should be stuck onto your cake box. If you don’t receive one, please come to the office to collect one. The completed forms will ensure we meet food safety requirements and are clear about any allergens used in your baking, so parents of children with allergies will know which cakes are suitable for their children. No items must contain nuts/peanuts, this is so important as we have children with severe nut allergies in school. Cakes can be brought to the Year 4 Study Room on the Friday morning at 8:15am.
The PTA team will have pre loved uniform available for you to buy on Friday 5th June from 3:20pm. See PTA Notices for more information.
As a result of parent feedback and our continuing support for the children, KIP Education will be delivering puberty workshops directly to pupils in Year 5 and 6 on Friday 26th June 2026.
To ensure a joined-up approach between home and school, KIP are hosting an exclusive parent-only session prior to the pupil workshops. This session is designed to give you the “insider track” on what your child will be learning, providing you with the tools, language and confidence to bond with them during this time. The workshop will be held online on Wednesday 24th June at 6pm. Please access the workshop with the following Online Link
As part of Broomfield House School’s 150th year, Mr Anstey will take on the challenge of running an extraordinary 100km (and a bit) across London on Friday 19th June, visiting Dukes Education schools along the route to raise funds for the Dukes Foundation Transformational Bursary Campaign.
Inspired by the brilliant children at Broomfield and across the wider Dukes family, and by the kindness, courage and community spirit they show so often, Mr Anstey felt it was important to have “skin in the game” and personally take on a challenge in support of a cause that creates opportunity for young people who need it most.
This is not about speed, records, or personal glory, all of these things are unlikely.
Instead, it is about using a difficult physical challenge to help shine a light on something far more important – widening access to transformational education and supporting children to flourish.
100km across London will require resilience, preparation, endurance and determination, qualities we speak about often with children at Broomfield, and values that sit at the heart of the Dukes Foundation’s work.
1 day. 1 city. 2 legs. 100km (and a bit).

Last night the school hall was transformed into something that would have given the Hammersmith Palais a run for their money back in the day!
The Years 3 & 5 girls were absolutely owning the dance floor – and, ahem, the stage – and the gorgeous weather made it the perfect evening all round.
Thank you so much to everyone who came, helped, donated food, and made it such a brilliant night.
It is a much-loved BHS tradition to welcome in the new school year with a picnic – a lovely chance for families and children to reconnect after the summer holidays.
We are pleased to confirm this year’s picnic will be taking place on Monday 31 August, from 3pm at North Sheen Recreation Ground. Do pop it in your diaries!
More details will follow from your new class reps for 2026-7. 🧺
We are on the lookout for enthusiastic new Core Team members – in particular from Year PK, Years 1, 3, 4 and 5 – as well as a new PTA Chair for the year ahead.
If you are interested in getting involved, or would simply like to find out more about what it entails, please do reach out to the current team. We would love to hear from you!

Thank you to everyone for the wonderful and creative entries into the Pupil Ideas Box, which was bursting at the seams! This week our fantastic Pupil Council met to discuss those suggestions. It was brilliant to see how the children approached this with such thoughtfulness, always considering what would be fun and safe for children of all ages. After weighing up all the options carefully, they made a shortlist of ideas to take forward next half term to make their Broomfield experience even more magical. Watch this space!
On Wednesday 20th May Mrs Kim-Shin and her Year 1 violin group, delighted us with their lovely violin playing during assembly. Mrs Kim-Shin started the assembly by giving a short introduction and demonstration of how the sound is produced on the violin and then asked the whole school some questions about the sizes of string instruments and the different parts of a violin. The group performed a couple of short pieces and at the end Mrs Kim-Shin reminded everyone that musicians practise every day for at least 10 or 15 minutes! (depending on age and how long they have been learning an instrument) Thank you to Mrs Kim-Shin for supporting the group. This little violin group is a result of the Kindergarten violin project we introduced at Broomfield last year and we hope to have more ensembles like this one for the other instrumentalists at Broomfield on offer as well in the coming months.
Parents are reminded to get in touch in with Miss Fourie with any enquiries they may have about starting an instrument at Broomfield. ifourie@broomfieldhouse.com

What a spectacular performance from our Year 6 children in their leavers’ assembly! They delighted the audience with dazzling dances, sensational songs and plenty of humour throughout.
A huge well done to Miss Curran, Mrs Ketel and the entire Year 6 class for all their hard work in creating such a wonderful and memorable performance.

This week, our Eco Team turned their attention to the humble bee – small in size but making a big difference to our environment.
While learning about the many important roles bees play, the children created bees using recycled toilet rolls and produced some fantastic drawings, which will form part of our summer Eco noticeboard.
Today is World Bee Day, a perfect opportunity to celebrate these incredible pollinators. With over 250 species of bees in the UK alone, they have a truly significant impact on our world.
Did you know?
Fun bee facts:
We also returned the seedlings the team planted a few weeks ago. These can now be taken home to grow and bloom in gardens and pots, helping to support the bees of Kew and Richmond.
On 6 May, a team of four enthusiastic Year 5 mathematicians – Frankie, Nehir, Eva and Magnus – represented Broomfield at the annual Hampton School Maths Wizard competition, in which we are a regular participant. The competition comprises a complete morning of fiendishly tricky and challenging maths problem which take great teamwork to solve. The team strained every sinew to maximise our result and finished in a hugely creditable eighth position of the twenty-five top independent schools represented. Congratulations to our brilliant young mathematicians!
Congratulations to the following recipients of this half term’s Headmaster’s Award: Mark (PK), Rhea (K), Bo (Year 1), Natasha (Year 2), Jazu (Year 3), Theyab (Year 4), Alana (Year 5) and Chris (Year 6). This is an outstanding achievement and a wonderful recognition of their hard work, positive attitudes and dedication to school life. Also pictured are Flo (Year 4) and Harry (Year 2), who were previous award winners and were delighted to join us after missing the original afternoon tea celebration. Very well done to all!
Over the last two weeks Year 2 worked on snails with oil pastels. They explored pattern work and reflected on colour contrasts.
At Forest School today, the children enjoyed a wonderful session packed with hands-on outdoor activities. They took part in a range of experiences including games, singing, fire lighting, wood chopping and, of course, toasting marshmallows – a firm favourite!
Throughout the session, the children developed important skills in safety, teamwork and outdoor survival. They learned how to work responsibly with tools, how to build and manage a fire safely, and how to appreciate the natural environment around them.
The session also provided a fantastic opportunity for the children to build confidence, resilience and independence, all while having plenty of fun in the fresh air.
A big thank you to our incredible Forest School leader, Scott, for guiding and supporting the children so expertly and making the experience both educational and enjoyable for all.
On Saturday 30th May, Everly (Y1) will be holding a lemonade stand for her 150 Challenge.
If any families are in or around Barnes, please come to the farmers market and say hello – we’ll have fresh lemonade and treats! Everly is hoping to raise £150 for Street Child – an international NGO that works with local organisations to ensure that every child has access to an education.
Max loves getting out on his bike. He really wanted to challenge himself to cycle 150 km for the school’s 150 birthday challenge. The suggestion was made that maybe he should do 150 laps of a local playground or running track, but he really wanted to do 150 kilometres, so he did!
Most was clocked up cycling through Richmond Park although he achieved a good amount on the cycle trails through Forest of Dean in the Easter holidays as well as a few cycle to school days.
Eveyln our super star baker has baked 150 delicious cookies for all of Broomfield to enjoy as part of her 150 anniversary challenge. She gave them out to everyone as dismissal today.
