Whole School

Last Day of Spring Term and First Day of Summer Term

Friday 27 March – Last Day of Term: The annual PTA Easter Egg Hunt will take place in the morning. School will finish at 12noon and children will need to be picked up at this time. No lunch will be provided on this day.

Tuesday 21 April – On our first day back of the Summer Term – There will be NO SWIMMING. Instead, all children should wear their summer uniforms as we look forward to welcoming the warmer weather. If you are in need of any uniform, we have a brilliant second hand shop in the school. Please email and purchase it from the PTA Uniform: PTAuniform@broomfieldhouse.com

Supervision

We’d like to offer a gentle reminder to all parents and carers that children remain in your care until the school bell rings and they enter the building. Please ensure your child is supervised before and after school. The use of mobile phones on school premises can be a distraction. We are proud to be a no‑phone school.

While on the playground at the start and end of the day, children should continue to follow our usual behaviour expectations—being kind, gentle, and respectful towards others. Thank you for your ongoing support in helping us maintain a safe, positive, and welcoming environment for everyone.

Ultimate Activity Camps – Easter Camp Discount

The team at UAC have some limited spots available for their Easter Camp at Broomfield and fantastic discounts for Broomfield parents. For more information on what is involved, their instagram page can be found here: https://www.instagram.com/ultimateactivitycamps/

Brass Instrument Trials

On Tuesday 28 April, children in Year 4 and Year 5 will have the opportunity to try a brass instrument. As we anticipate these short 10 minute ‘taster sessions’ to be very popular, we ask parents to express interest in their child trying out the trumpet and bassoon by emailing Miss Fourie directly. This will enable Miss Fourie to put together a schedule so that Mr Clarke (our fantastic brass teacher) is able to see as many children for a trial session on the day. This is a great opportunity for our Year 4 and Year 5 children not to be missed!

SEND Coffee Morning and Consultation

SEND Coffee Morning – 8:30am on 06 May 26

We are excited to invite all our parents to our first SEND coffee morning. This will be an opportunity to chat to other parents and members of staff about inclusion. You may have a child in your own family with additional needs, or you might simply want to find out more. There will be a short talk by Farah Ahmad from Achieving for Children. Farah works with the SEND Parent and Carer Engagement Team enabling co-production and improving access to services and support for all families with a child with special educational needs or a disability (SEND) in Richmond.

Consultation on SEND reform

On 23 February, the Government published proposals for school reform in the white paper Every Child Achieving and Thriving, alongside a related document, SEND Reform: Putting Children and Young People First. A public consultation on these proposals is now open and will run until 18 May 2026. The consultation can be found here. This is an opportunity for parents, carers and professionals to share their views on the proposals. A summary document entitled: What parents of children with SEND need to know, is also available.

Highlights

Spring Musicals

Our Spring Musicals were truly amazing, showcasing the hard work and talent of the Year 3 and 4 children. The evening began with the Year 3 production, It’s All Greek to Me!—a lively and comedic presentation inspired by the world of Ancient Greece. The children had worked incredibly hard to bring the songs and stories to life. After the interval, Year 4 performed Grimm the Musical, taking the audience on a magical journey through some of the well-known fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm. Filled with colourful characters and hilarious moments, it was a wonderful way to conclude the evening. A huge thank you to the Year 3 and Year 4 team, to Chef Nay and her wonderful staff for their support, and most importantly to our wonderful Drama and Music Directors, Miss Travis and Miss Fourie, whose dedication made the night truly special.

Please see the Parent Portal for all the pictures from the show and some from the dress rehearsal.

Pupil Experience

Year 1 completed their first ever Gold Star Project, this is a first for KS1 at Broomfield! The cross-curricular history, science and geography project had the children designing and creating a mode of transport using recyclable materials. Every child exceeded expectations and presented their work with the utmost pride and positivity. They demonstrated confidence and spoke with eloquence about the project itself, the initial design elements, the purposefully chosen materials and the entire process. We are so proud of each and everyone of them.

A special mention to Dylan, Georgina, Zane and Bo who achieved a gold star for going the extra mile!

Wonderful Music Results

Ayan (Y5) completed her Grade 3 ABRSM singing exam this week and was awarded a Distinction.  She performed pieces in English, Latin and German. Despite a few nerves initially, the support from her singing teacher helped a lot on the day and resulted in this amazing outcome.

Melody (Y5) completed her Grade 2 ABRSM Singing Exam this week and received a well deserved Merit for all her hard work.

A huge thank you to Mrs Pedley, our Broomfield singing teacher for supporting the children. Congratulations and well done, Ayan and Melody. We are very proud of you!

Beyond World Book Day

A special mention to Bo in Year 1 for representing Broomfield and reaching the semi-final at Dukes House in the Beyond World Book Day competition last month.

Her pop up book perfectly portrays a ‘Day in the Life’ at Broomfield and we are all extremely proud of her hard work, creativity and final design!

Neurodiversity Celebration Week

Founded by Siena Castellon in 2018, Neurodiversity Celebration Week is a worldwide initiative that challenges stereotypes and misconceptions about neurological differences. It aims to transform how neurodivergent individuals are perceived and supported by providing schools, universities, organisations, and others around the world with the opportunity to recognise the many skills and talents of neurodivergent individuals, while creating more inclusive and equitable cultures that celebrate differences and empower every individual.

The celebrations at Broomfield have included a number of posters around the school and playground of celebrities talking about their learning differences.

Artwork of the Week

The children in Year 3 and Year 4 created an eye-catching display for their spring musicals. Year 3 explored Greek vases and designed their own versions. They also learned about foil engraving and explored pattern work. Year 4 focused on fairy tale characters, using a mixed-media technique that combined oil pastels and watercolour.

Eco Club

This week in Eco Club, we turned our attention to frogs in celebration of National Frog Day on Wednesday. Although these often slimy-looking creatures might not be everyone’s favourite, they play a vital role in many ecosystems. With more than 8,000 species of frogs and toads worldwide, it’s worrying that many are now in decline due to habitat loss, pollution and climate change. Frogs can be found across the globe, even in parts of the Arctic Circle!

We also learned some fascinating frog facts:
  • Frogs do not drink water but absorb it through their skin.
  • A group of frogs is called an army.
  • They lived alongside the dinosaurs.
  • When frogs swallow their food, they pull their eyes down into the roof of their mouth to push the food down their throat.
  • Due to their permeable skin, they can easily absorb toxic chemicals and are therefore considered good indicators of environmental stresses such as pollution.
