Kew Gardens’ Henry Moore exhibition is now open. Moore was a passionate believer that sculpture is ‘an art of the open air’. Taking the great man’s words as a prompt, we have a round-up of new outdoor sculptures and statues to visit. Plus, some indoor crafty options if you want to get stuck into some ‘sculpting’ yourself.
Inspired by the inaugural exhibition at the new V&A East, here are some suggestions for musical outings across London to put a spring in your step.

🧁 Cupcake Decorating Competition

What’s a birthday party without cupcakes? There will be a cupcake decorating competition, open to children, parents and families alike! This year’s theme is 150 Years / Birthdays – we can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Entries will be judged on the day by the very honourable Mr Anstey and Mrs WS.

After judging, cupcakes will be shared with all attendees – and every child will take one home as a sweet end to the party 🎂

To register your entry, please add your name, class and number of cupcakes here: 👉 Register for the cupcake competition

Raise money for PTA when buying your name labels

Lost property is a constant challenge in schools, and name labels make a real difference in getting items back to their owners. When ordering labels for uniforms, shoes, water bottles and lunchboxes, you can also support Broomfield House School PTA at no extra cost.
We are now partnering with two excellent name label companies- Stikins (our long-standing partner) and MyNameTags. Simply quote our fundraising number when ordering:
Both offer high-quality, durable labels that withstand countless washes. With the summer holidays approaching, it’s the perfect time to label everything before the return to school- an easy way to tick off an essential task while raising funds for the PTA!

PTA Meeting, Friday 10 July

Please join us for the last PTA Coffee morning of this academic year. This is a chance for us to all get together and celebrate what we have achieved over the past year as well as look forward to the year ahead. We will be announcing our new Class Reps and PTA Team as well as wishing a fond farewell to Mr Anstey, Ms Mickley and Mr Kennedy.

Please join us in the Dining Hall straight after drop off at 8:30am.

PTA Handbook 2026 & local recommendations

We’re putting together a directory of local recommendations from BHS families to sit alongside the revamped PTA Handbook .

From the best football club to join or a brilliant local hairdresser, to a trusted handyman or favourite coffee shop – if you’d happily recommend it to a fellow Broomfield parent, we want to hear about it.

We’d love every family to contribute and it only takes 5 minutes. Please do add your top picks 👉 tinyurl.com/bhsrecces (this weekend if you can please)

Highlights

Pupil Experience

This week the children enjoyed some delicious smoothies at lunchtime after it was suggested in our pupil ideas box. The pupil council considered what fruity flavour might be most popular, and decided on a yummy mixed berry. They were a huge hit, giving everyone a tasty and refreshing treat during the school day. A huge thank you to the kitchen team for making this happen, and for bringing the children’s fantastic ideas to life!

West End for Isabela

Well done to Isabela (Y5), who made her West End debut last Sunday (7 June 2026) at The Other Palace, just around the corner from the Victoria Palace Theatre, performing with her drama group, West Way. They put on a brilliant showcase of singing, dancing and acting, and Isabela took part in lots of different pieces, including a small solo in Merry Old Land of Oz (The Wizard of Oz), as well as songs from Shrek the Musical and The Prom. She also played a variety of acting roles, including the Queen, a Giant and the narrator in The BFG. West Way usually performs at The Exchange in Twickenham, so this was a really exciting opportunity for them to take to a West End stage. As many of you know, Bela loves acting and hopes to pursue it as a career one day. While she’s most interested in straight plays, she’s really enjoyed exploring singing and dancing through musical theatre too. In September, she’ll be heading back to her old drama club, White Rabbit Youth Theatre, who are very excited to have her back. Despite seeming very confident on stage, Bela is actually quite shy and doesn’t usually like a fuss—but we did manage to persuade her to pose for one photo to mark the occasion!

Rockets at the Ready

As part of their Computing lessons, Year 1 designed and created their own bottle rockets. The children used computers to produce a parts list and to plan the steps needed to assemble their rockets safely and correctly. They learned how air pressure can be used to launch a rocket and discussed the different parts required to make it work. The highlight of the project was launching the rockets outside and watching them soar into the air. The children showed excellent creativity, teamwork and problem-solving skills throughout the activity and thoroughly enjoyed seeing their designs come to life.

Katsu for the win

Won in the PTA auction, Sophie Wu (Y4) had the exciting opportunity to choose the lunch menu for the day! She selected a school favourite, Chicken Katsu Curry which the whole school enjoyed last week. A great choice, thank you Sophie!

Skateboarding Club

Our Skateboarding club continues to go from strength to strength, with members learning a wide range of new tricks and developing their confidence each week. It has been fantastic to see the progress that has taken place since the start of term, with many participants showing real commitment and enthusiasm.

Over the past few weeks, there has been a noticeable improvement in both skill level and teamwork. Beginners have quickly picked up the basics, while more experienced skaters have been refining their techniques and pushing themselves to try more advanced moves. The supportive atmosphere within the club has played a key role in this progress, with members encouraging and learning from one another.

If your not already signed up check with the offcie to see if spots are avaliable for the Autumn term!

Roman Feast for Year 3

In our history lesson last week, year 3 took part in a Roman feast to learn about how people lived in Roman times. We tasted foods such as cheese, vegetables, fruit and bread. We also reclined on the floor to mirror a triclinium, the dining area where wealthy Romans ate their feasts!

Artwork of the Week

Year 4 studied the Fauvist artist Henri Matisse and explored works from different stages of his life. Inspired by his paintings, the children recreated interiors that reflected the various phases of his artistic development. They also investigated colour theory, with a particular focus on complementary contrasts and applied this knowledge in their own artwork. The result was a collection of vibrant and expressive coloured pencil drawings.

Mead House Raffle and Cake Sale

The much-anticipated annual Mead House Raffle and Cake Sale took place last Friday, with the raffle drawn during Friday’s assembly. There were plenty of delicious cakes and treats for everyone to enjoy, and children had brought in £1 earlier in the week to purchase raffle tickets. Mead families generously donated raffle prizes and baked a wonderful selection of cakes for the sale. Thank you to everyone who got invloved and helped raised much-needed funds for the Mead House charity, The Pioneer School in India.

Race for Life

Three of our Year 5 girls kept busy over the half term holidays by raising money for their Muddy Race for Life. Together, they achieved an amazing total of £943 for Cancer Research UK — a fantastic accomplishment!

On a very hot day in May, Frankie, Camila and Alana took on the 5K race at Clapham Common. The course was both challenging and fun, featuring 12 obstacles to climb over, crawl under and scramble through. With plenty of mud, water cannons and temperatures reaching 30°C, it certainly wasn’t easy but the girls absolutely loved the experience!

For anyone interested in taking part, there is another children’s 5K Muddy Race for Life happening at Kempton Racecourse in July (participants must be over 1.2m tall). There are also muddy races available for adults, so why not get involved?

An outstanding achievement by the girls, well done Camila, Frankie and Alana.
