As a part of the launch of the School Street on Princes Road, we will be holding an assembly for the pupils on Wednesday 4 March to introduce the scheme and its benefits in a fun and engaging way for the children. The assembly will explain how reducing the number of cars at drop-off and pick-up on Princes Road will help improve road safety, support cleaner air and encourage active and sustainable travel such as walking, cycling, scooting and Park and Stride. Pupils will also learn that the scheme does not mean zero cars and will be reminded of key road-safety measures, including how to cross the road safely and how to stay visible when travelling in the dark.
We are delighted to have our annual World Book Day dress up tradition on Friday 6th February. Kindly send your child to school dressed up as their favourite book character. We look forward to welcoming an up and coming author to our assembly and playing ‘Guess the Door’ to discover what stories each class has been learning about this academic year! We are also pleased to share that the Beyond World Book Day entries have been submitted and the wonderful work of ‘A Day in the Life at Broomfield’ and our finalists will be shared with you next week. We look forward to celebrating all of our entrants hard work, creativity and incredible efforts!
A reminder to all parents in Years 4, 5, and 6 that it is assessment week next week and it is important that all children should attend school where possible.
We are delighted to announce that following parent feedback, Ultimate Activity Camps have decided to extend our Easter Early Booking Offer until Sunday 1st March. Head to their website to book your child place: Kew Summer & Easter Activity Camps | 4-14 Year Olds
There has been an increase in measles in London recently and we have a small number of confirmed cases in young children in Kingston. This is of concern given the rising number of cases across London. The London outbreak has led to some children having to be hospitalised.
Measles spreads very easily between people who are not vaccinated. Measles can be prevented by vaccination. All parents and carers want what is best for their child – if your child has missed any of their doses or you’re unsure, get in touch with your GP surgery. It’s never too late to catch up.

The Lunar New Year Celebrations in Year 1 were truly like no other! From the serene dance lesson, to the intricate calligraphy workshop, to the exciting chopsticks challenge and the paper flip game – it really was a unique and bespoke experience.
A special thank you to Emory’s Mum + Dad, Everly’s Mum, Cathie’s Mum + Dad and Bo’s Mum and Dad for your hard work, creativity, time and talents. This is a day that the children will cherish and a memory that will last them a lifetime. Should you wish to give calligraphy a go yourself, Plassroom x PB Calligraphy comes highly recommended!
This week we were talking all things recyclable to celebrate Global Recycling Day on Monday 2 March. There are so many more opportunities to recycle old used materials and products – such as old coffee granules from coffee shops to hair clippings from hairdressers and even old used flip flops from your summer holiday.
And the members of Eco club would like Broomfield to do their bit – there is now a box in reception and we are asking the students and teachers of Broomfield to bring in any old pens and post them in the box. All pens welcome from biros to felt tips to high-lighters. Once the box is full we can send it off for the pens to be recycled. Our Eco ambassadors spent some time making amazing eye catching posters to inform their fellow classmates.
We were delighted to welcome back to school, Mary and Frances Pritchard, who attended the school between 1953 and 1961. Their visit on Monday came about after they reconnected through the new Alumni Association, launched as part of the 150th anniversary celebrations. They greatly enjoyed their tour of the school with Mrs Roberts and tea with Mr Anstey at which four of our Year 6 pupils – Lizzy, Adil, Alice and Christiaan – asked questions about what school was like when they were here, sparking wonderful intergenerational conversation. Before leaving, Mary, who was Head Girl in 1959–1960, had the joy of ringing the school bell once again. As they departed, they shared their thanks: “Thank you for such a splendid visit. It was wonderful to step back sixty six years and to recall the happiness of the school.”
Year 5 and Year 6 produced some amazing ink drawings during our Sumi-e workshop. They demonstrated a strong understanding of the concept of simplification and thoroughly enjoyed the session, which allowed them to develop their brush drawing skills and experiment with wet painting techniques.
In Year 5, Steven made a fabulous presentation about how he and his family celebrate Lunar New Year. It is customary for families to welcome the New Year by watching the sunrise but unfortunately, it was too cloudy here, so his grandfather sent a fabulous image of sunrise from the top of a mountain in Korea!
On Thursday, this week a nutritionist from our catering team Holroyd Howe visited Broomfield. The visit included some fun, interactive sessions with every class covering healthy eating and the importance of a balanced diet. The children sampled some of the wonderful smoothies and played some interactive games. A big thank you to Holroyd Howe for this fantastic session.
Frankie has had a busy few weeks in both cross country and swimming. She has chosen to take on the ISA Cross Country Nationals and is aiming to come between 50th – 60th, which is a challenge she’s looking forward to. She also recently took part in the County Swimming Championships, competing in the 10/11 age group despite being only 9. Across the weekend she worked hard, improving her times in all three of her breaststroke events. Highlights included setting new personal bests in the 50m and 100m breaststroke, and a particularly strong swim in the 200m breaststroke, where she made significant progress on her previous time. It was a great learning experience for her, and she thoroughly enjoyed taking part. Well done Frankie.
