Rising 3s and Summer Projects

It has been such a super week in school, the Year 6 production of the Lion King has been nothing short of spectacular and I feel immensely proud of all who have taken to the stage with such confidence, demonstrating both talent and growth. I am also delighted to share that we have just been notified Broomfield has been shortlisted for the Independent School of the Year Award, with finalists to be announced in early September. This is fantastic news to receive as we approach the end of another successful academic year for our entire school community.

Broomfield has always been a forward-thinking school that refuses to stand still when it comes to capital investment and ensuring our facilities match our world class educational ambitions. I am therefore, pleased to share an important and exciting development for our school community. In response to the recent announcement, just before the May half term, that Kew Montessori will be closing, Broomfield will open a dedicated Rising 3s class from September 2025. There is much more information on this in the attached flyer to this newsletter that aims to answer many initial FAQs.

As a school at the heart of our local community, we listen carefully to families who over the past few years have expressed the need for a local high-quality early years provision and a seamless transition into our Pre-Kindergarten. Several families, especially those with younger siblings, have highlighted the challenges presented by multiple drop offs and the desire for an earlier start within the Broomfield environment. We believe this initiative is the right and responsible response to those needs, ensuring we continue to support our community while also maintaining a level playing field with other prep schools across London that already offer a Rising 3 provision.

Our decision has been firmly guided by our unwavering commitment to quality and the exceptional experience Broomfield is known for. We will be thoughtfully sharing news of this provision within the local community, rather than conducting a broad campaign, to preserve the nurturing and personal atmosphere that is so valued by our current families.

Importantly, we will continue to prioritise the strength of our current Early Years team. Rather than redeploying existing staff, we are actively recruiting additional colleagues who will further enrich the quality of provision and uphold the high standards for which Broomfield is renowned. This is a further demonstration of out commitment to staffing our school way above that of statutory guidance.

The new Rising 3s space will be a beautifully designed, biophilic-inspired environment that draws on nature-based principles to connect children to the outdoors, supporting their sense of calm, focus, and wellbeing. I am pleased to confirm that we received approval for this significant capital investment last Friday, and since then we have been working closely with our trusted contractors to prepare for a busy summer, meaning work on this exciting new space will begin next weekend.

In keeping with our vision for sustainable investment, this project will also support the wider school, with the atrium serving an additional breakout area for Year 1 and Year 2 children at times, further enhancing their opportunities for flexible learning and exploration. The current Harrow House girl’s toilets will be moved slightly, with a brand-new space created for children to use when in that building. As part of our ongoing sustainability strategy, we have been gradually reducing our reliance on gas for heating, and with this project, only a single gas boiler will remain on site. This is a meaningful and tangible step forward, reflecting Broomfield’s commitment to lowering our carbon footprint. It places us in a strong position to introduce energy generation and storage capacity in the coming years, supporting our ambition to become net zero but and climate positive, giving back to the grid.

Alongside this project, we will also be upgrading the atrium, Year 1 and 2 class rooms, and the school hall with a full air-conditioning system over the summer, ensuring comfort throughout the year. In parallel, we are further investing in our IT network to keep Broomfield future proofed, all while preserving our philosophy of intentional, only purposeful screen use. New early toilets will be installed as well as new furniture and some improvements to the school hall.

Our outdoor learning approach will continue to be central to this next chapter, encouraging our children to spend as much time as possible in the fresh air, discovering, exploring, and engaging with the world around them. We are confident that this significant investment in both our environment and our people will bring a positive addition to our already world-class early years experience, while responding to the evolving needs of our local families in a way that feels sensitive, sustainable, and true to Broomfield’s values.

If you have any questions at this stage, or would like to learn more about these plans, please do not hesitate to reach out. We look forward to sharing further updates with you in the coming months and over the summer.

All the best for the weekend.

Mr Anstey

  • If you have any additional clubs you would like to add please email the office with the requested: office@broomfieldhouse.com
  • There are still spaces available in all clubs except Eco club is fully booked.
  • Please note that Run Club will only run for the first half of the Autumn term.
  • If your child is moving into Year 4, please note that they will be at games (along with Year 5 and 6) on Wednesdays until 4.30pm and therefore will not require a club unless you wish for them to attend after school care from 4.30-5.30pm.

Den Day – 8th July

We are very excited that Den Day will take place on Tuesday 8th July. All of the children will have fun building dens in school to raise money for Save the Children. It will be a fun way for us to raise funds that will change children’s lives, whilst learning new skills, including team building. Once the dens have been built the children will enjoy a picnic lunch inside their dens. On Tuesday morning, we kindly ask that each child brings in an item from home to help build the dens. Items may include cardboard boxes, a blanket or a sheet, or any other item from around the house that might make good building materials. PK, K and Year 1 should take their items to their classes. Items from children in Years 2 – 6 will be collected in designated ‘House’ areas on the Bottom Patch. Children in Years 5 and 6 who are going to be swimming first thing on Tuesday morning, can bring their items in on Monday. We also ask children to bring in a minimum donation of £1 on the day, which will be given to Save the Children. If you would like to make an additional donation, the link to donate to Save the children can be found by clicking here.

If you cannot collect your child at 3:30, they can stay with Mrs Zammit until the usual 4:30pm collection time.  However, please let the office know so that we can update the dismissal register.

Year 1 and Year 2

Key Stage 1 – Poetry Recital

We warmly welcome the Year 1 and Year 2 parents to join us for an unmissable event – the annual Key Stage One Poetry Recital. The event has become a much-loved Broomfield tradition and a wonderful way to collectively celebrate each child’s progress. The event will start at 9:00am and run for approximately one hour. Please ensure that your child is wearing their full uniform and arrives at school on time. This will allow the children time to do a speed run through and for us to calm any nerves. Over the upcoming days, please encourage your child to recite their poem aloud to you at home, focusing on pace, expression and tone. This year, we welcome two wonderful guest judges, Sebastian Hepher, Principal of Eaton Square School and Zanna Clarke, Principal of Miss Daisy’s Nursery who are both English enthusiasts excited to witness the Broomfield magic! Thank you to every family for your time and ongoing support; we look forward to a momentous end to a truly remarkable academic year.

Broomfest 2025 – What a Day!

What a fantastic day we had at this year’s Broomfest Summer Fair! The sun was shining, the DJ kept both children and parents dancing, and our amazing class reps truly outdid themselves. From games to glitter, it was a celebration to remember. A huge thank you to all the BHS staff and teachers who supported the fair – your time and energy on a hot day didn’t go unnoticed – and to all the parent volunteers who supported and (relentlessly!) encouraged donations in the lead-up. Special thanks to Lukasz, without whom the fair quite literally wouldn’t happen. His uncanny ability to locate supplies tucked away in the furthest corners of the school is nothing short of magical!
The core PTA team is also incredibly grateful to the following volunteers who joined the Summer Fair team and made a huge difference: Francesca Baker, Ben Rivera, Eloise Isaac, Emma Bickerstaffe. A big shoutout as well to Arzu Karagiannopoulos and Suzette Fitt, who cheerfully took on some of the less glamorous (but totally essential!) behind-the-scenes tasks. We couldn’t have done it without you all.
Congratulations to Team Pre-K for winning Best Decorated Stall with their fabulous disco theme – and taking home bottles of gin generously donated by East London Liquor Co.! (picture of their stall is in the gallery below)
We’re also hugely thankful to our sponsors:
• HG Walter – The UK’s best butchers, owned by two BHS families. Perfect for your summer BBQs! Order online: https://www.hgwalter.com/.
• Hallets- Local Kew estate agents
• Whole Foods Kew – Packed with artisan treats (and the source of all our coconuts!)
• East London Liquor Co. – Donated the gin for our winning stall prize
Thank you to everyone who came, volunteered, donated, and celebrated with us.
Here’s to another brilliant Broomfest in the books! 💛

A Roaring Success: Broomfield’s Senior Production of The Lion King

What a performance! Our Year 4 and 5 children, led by the shining stars of Year 6 in their final Broomfield show, truly brought The Lion King to life in spectacular fashion.

From the moment the curtain rose, the audience was completely captivated — gripped by stunning costumes, heartfelt singing and dynamic dancing. The children’s acting shone through every scene, and the characters and choreography were masterfully delivered. Congratulations to every single performer on a truly stellar performance!

A heartfelt thank you goes out to Miss Travis and Miss Fourie for their exceptional dedication and guidance in preparing the children for this show-stopping event. Their commitment ensured the children felt confident, prepared and ready to perform.

We would also like to express our gratitude to Ms Frey for the fabulous artwork — the creative visuals added yet another layer of magic to an already unforgettable evening.

In short: this was a show to remember, and its echo will be felt at Broomfield for a long time to come!

Year 3 visit the Science Museum

On Friday last week, the children in Year 3 channeled their inner scientists and made their way to the Science Museum in London. The day was spent engaging with different scientific equipment and bringing their learning from the classroom to life in the museum. The children thoroughly enjoyed the WonderLab experience where they got to carry out science experiments first hand. A super fun trip to end the year!

Amazing achievement by our Karate Kid

Hello everyone, my name is Alexi and I’m 10 years old. I started Karate here at Broomfield in 2018 with the Pee Wee class, and today I’m proud to say I’ve reached the brown-black belt level. In Funakoshi Shotokan Karate, the coloured belts are like stepping􀀇stones. With each one, you have to learn a new kata, improve your sparring, and become more disciplined and focused. Reaching the brown-black belt means I’m just one step away from black belt – which is a really big goal in Karate! It takes years of training, motivation, and learning to push yourself, even when things are tough.

Karate has been an incredible journey filled with respect, discipline, leadership, teamwork, and yes … lots of fighting and a bit of pain too! But most of all, it’s helped me grow stronger both in body and in mind. I’ve made great friends, learned to stay focused, and discovered that Karate isn’t just about kicking and punching – it’s about becoming a better person.

Thank you so much to all my senseis for everything they’ve taught me over the last 7 years, and of course to my teachers at Broomfield for being so supportive – and patient – especially when I was always late getting changed after Karate class!

As Gichin Funakoshi said, “The ultimate aim of karate lies not in victory nor defeat, but in the perfection of the character of its participants.”

Thank you!

Alexi

Broomfield shortlisted for Independent School of the Year Award

We are delighted to be nominated for the Independent Schools of the Year awards which are designed to give independent schools an opportunity to celebrate and showcase their extraordinary achievements, and 2025 has been no exception.
