PTA Meeting & School Street Information Evening

Monday 23rd June | 6:00pm | Broomfield House School

We warmly invite all parents and carers to our upcoming PTA meeting at Broomfield House School. We’ll start by discussing plans for the summer fair, followed by a drop-in session led by the London Borough of Richmond to introduce a School Street consultation for Princes Road.

What is a School Street?
School Streets restrict motor traffic outside schools during drop-off and pick-up times (typically 8:15–9:00am and 3:00–3:45pm), making the area safer and healthier for children. Only exempt vehicles may enter during these times (visit the website below for exemption info). Richmond Council currently runs 19 School Streets borough-wide using signage — no cameras are planned for Broomfield House at this stage.

Why this matters:
The aim is to improve safety, reduce traffic, support active travel, and improve air quality at the school gates. Richmond Council will launch a consultation from 23rd June to 13th July to gather local feedback and assess the scheme’s potential for Princes Road.

Can’t attend in the evening?
Council officers will also be available at the school gates at pick-up time on 23rd June to answer any questions.

Have your say:
Visit the consultation page from 23rd June:

📧 Or email: schoolstreets@richmond.gov.uk
🌐 More info: www.richmond.gov.uk/school_streets

Your views are vital and will help shape whether a trial moves ahead in the next school year, with further consultation during the trial.

Please join us – your voice will help make Broomfield House an even safer, greener place for our children.

Highlights

Ocean Day Event

To celebrate World Ocean Day, our entire school was transformed into a stunning gallery, filled with artwork created by every pupil and member of staff. Each corridor and classroom became part of an immersive exhibition, showcasing a powerful range of ocean-themed pieces.

A heartfelt thank you goes to Mrs Frey, whose hard work, vision, and dedication made this event possible. Her passion inspired the whole school, and she played a key role in bringing the gallery to life.

Staff members also contributed their own pieces, joining the children in spreading a strong environmental message through art. The event was not only a celebration of creativity, but also a meaningful reminder of our responsibility to care for our planet’s oceans. It was a truly unforgettable event.

Art this week

In Art this week, Year 6 learnt about the technique of mono printing and combined it with watercolour painting. The children also reflected on composition and created collages on the subject of protecting the oceans. Year 5 was introduced to acrylic painting and practised their painting and drawing skills. The class worked on their observational skills in combination of lettering creating a piece for World Ocean Day.

Year 6 Enterprise

This week, our school held an exciting Year 6 Enterprise Event, where our oldest pupils became young entrepreneurs for the day. The children worked in teams to develop creative business ideas, carefully planning their products, pricing, and marketing strategies. They then presented their pitches to an esteemed panel of judges, showcasing their confidence, teamwork, and persuasive skills.

After gaining approval, each team set up their own stall and sold their products to the rest of the school. From handmade crafts and sweet treats to games and eco-friendly items, the range of ideas was impressive. The atmosphere was full of energy as pupils from all year groups explored the stalls and supported their Year 6 peers.

The event was a fantastic opportunity for the children to learn about enterprise, money management, and collaboration in a fun, hands-on way. A huge well done to all of Year 6 for their hard work and enthusiasm!

Ibstock Place Annual Debating Competition

Our Year 5 debating team competed this week in the prestigious Ibstock Place School annual debating competition, against a host of other top independent schools. The team acquitted themselves confidently, playing a total of six debates against really difficult opposition. Subjects debated included subjects like whether cars should be banned from entering city centres and whether human beings should all become vegetarian. Debating involves arguing – in a very respectful and organised way – against an opposing team, sometimes in support of something that you don’t personally believe in! It is fast-paced and speakers only get three minutes to make their case but is brilliant for developing public speaking confidence and skills. Huge congratulations go to Amelia, Jamie, Ella, Alexi, Adil and Simran for putting themselves out there and winning a number of close debates. Special congratulations to Adil who received a special award as one of the two best players of the tournament.

Triathlon Success

Frankie and Isabella (Y4) took part in their first ever triathlon this weekend in Henley. They were in the Steel race which included 50m swim, 200m transition run, 2km cycle (on grass), 1k run. They both stayed calm and focused when coming out of the swim to change into their socks and shoes, then finding their bikes and donning their helmets and race numbers.  They did exceptionally well with Frankie coming 6th in a time of 16mins 34secs and Isabella coming 17th in 17mins 30secs out of a field of 107 girls aged 8-11yrs. Well done Frankie and Isabella!
