Miss Lovett will be opening the SOCS booking portal from today, Friday 23rd May from 3.30pm, and it will be closed at midnight on Sunday 1st June. If you wish to sign your child up for a new club for the autumn term, bookings should be made via the SOCS booking system. As usual, if your child attended a club in the summer term, it will be automatically carried over to the autumn term (excluding Cookery Club) so there is no requirement to book in if they wish to carry on with a current club. If you do not wish to carry on the club, or before/after school care arrangements, you will need to make any amendments via the SOCs portal or email the office before the start of the second half of the summer term, which is Monday 2nd June. After this time, you have been counted in the numbers for the autumn term and will be invoiced for the full term. Please provide half a term’s notice to discontinue a club for the following term.
The schedule for clubs will remain the same for the autumn term. Due to popular demand we will continue with Run Club for the first half of the Autumn term only.
Additionally, to sign up for Cookery Club you must do this directly through their respective website. Please find the attached flyer and the relevant link for further information.
Should you have any questions or require a SOCS log in, please contact Miss Lovett on office@broomfieldhouse.com.

Webinar:
The recent drama, Adolescence raised important and timely questions about the complexities of teenage relationships. In response, and as part of our commitment to supporting families in navigating these conversations at home, we welcomed an expert in the field, Alicia Drummond from the Wellbeing Hub for a parent webinar. You can view it here:
The Year 6 Leavers Assembly took place this morning. The children performed a hilarious series of skits. They took on the roles of their teachers and brought classroom moments to life. Their impersonations and clever storytelling captured their time at Broomfield, showcasing not only their creativity but also the strong bonds they’ve formed with staff and classmates. It was a lovely send off that had the whole school smiling, especially when all the baby pictures came out! Well done Year 6!
Special thanks to Miss. Curran and Mrs. Ketel.
Upper School Summer Serenade
On Tuesday 20th May we hosted our second summer serenade for instrumentalists and singers from Year 4 to Year 6.
It was another beautiful summer’s evening as 30 of our Broomfield children prepared to perform in front of an audience. It was wonderful to see such a varied programme and performances by pupils who have had lessons for only a short time to the more experienced children who have been playing and singing for years.
We also saw a wide range of instruments represented including piano, flute, violin, drums, guitar and some individual singers.
The standard of performance was very high and we are exceptionally proud of all the children who performed on Tuesday.
A special thank you to Miss Fourie and Miss Crawford, Miss Travis, Mrs Pedley, Mr McNeillie, Mrs Zammit, Mrs Ketel, Miss Curran, Mrs Doyle, Mrs Pache and Mr Anstey for their help and support on the night.
Sports Highlight
This week brought plenty of excitement on the athletics field, with standout performances across all year groups at a Dukes Athletics event. A special congratulations goes to the Year 4 girls. Demonstrating incredible teamwork and determination the team powered through the competition to claim first place overall in the under 9s age group. Well done girls!
Dukes Chess Championship
The BHS team competed this week – for the first time – in the Dukes Chess Championship, against other schools from the Dukes group. The format of the competition gave each player ten minutes to get through their moves, so there was intense time pressure. Our team – led with great leadership skill by Chess captain Gusti – sustained astronomical levels of concentration throughout an amazing total of …. 54 (!) matches during the course of this excellent and tightly organised competition. This effort saw us win 36 (two thirds) of our games and achieve 5th position overall of the fourteen schools present – a fantastic achievement for our first ever participation. Highest congratulations go to our skilled and courageous team of Gusti, Arnav, Charlotte B, Anushka, Victor and Kobe who all gave the tournament a huge thumbs up in terms of enjoyment and the quality of chess played. Bring on next year’s competition!
Kindergarten Trip To Holly Lodge
Kindergarten had a blast at Holly Lodge! They went pond dipping, learnt more about the life cycle of butterflies and went on a bug hunt. We finished our trip with a lovely picnic and run around in the sunshine.

Maths Workshop
On Thursday we celebrated BHS Maths Day – a day of amazing problem-solving challenges for all classes from Years 1-6. We were visited by a team from Maths Explorers, an enthusiastic group fanatically devoted to all-things-maths who engaged and enraptured the children through an exciting range of challenges. The children’s responses included, “This was the most amazing experience-thanks so much!” and “Now I get why maths is so fun!”
Special thanks to Mr Kennedy for organising.
Author Visit
On Wednesday this week we enjoyed an author visit from Rachel Piercey. Rachel is a London-based poet, editor and tutor. She studied English Literature at St Hugh's College, Oxford, and has an MA in Creative Writing from Royal Holloway. Her books are It's Busy Down in the Woods Today and Wisdom in the Woods. Thank you for coming to visit us Rachel!
Eco Club
It was National Bee Day on the 18th May and Eco Club celebrated this with an update of the Eco Club notice board. We illustrated in true Eco style by recycling our pledge tree and turning it into a bee and insect haven.
Rockets
Year 1 enjoyed a cross-curricular lesson with Mr Pache. The children designed and created rockets online and then brought their technology work to life through art and design. Their final models were incredible and the rockets successfully launched, shooting even further when filled with water! Lots of learning and laughter were shared throughout the process.
Year 5 Trip to Kingswood
Last week, our Year 5 children visited Kingswood. From the moment they arrived there was a lot of excitement. Over the course of the trip, the children participated in a wide range of challenging activities from rock climbing, fencing, bush craft, and team-building games. It was wonderful to see how the children supported one another, tried new things, and stepped outside of their comfort zones. Teachers and staff were incredibly proud of the way each pupil demonstrated resilience, kindness, and a sense of adventure.
The trip not only created lasting memories but also helped build confidence and friendships that will continue to grow back in the classroom. A huge thank you to the Kingswood staff for their incredible energy and support, and to our own teachers Mr. Pache, Miss Bendall and Miss. Lovett.
Art This Week
Year 4 created a mixed media collage for our Ocean Day exhibition. They explored the idea of the ocean in a bottle while practising their coloured pencil and observational skills.
