Thoughts from the Study

Happy Easter

Year 6 arrived back last night from their Spanish immersion trip, a week brimming with watersports, team-building, and unparalleled fun for all. One of the highlights was actually the journey out, where a parent of one of the children, who is a pilot, made a heartwarming announcement to all passengers. He proudly declared that Broomfield was on board and eloquently spoke of our school’s core values: Curiosity, Creativity, Courage, and Kindness. I am immensely proud of all the Year 6 children who have represented our school exceptionally well throughout their time away. I am also deeply grateful to my colleagues who have generously given their personal time to accompany and lead this enriching and pivotal experience for the children.

This Wednesday, I had the pleasure of hosting a group of principals from the Wellington College International school network. Having heard about Broomfield through the grapevine, they journeyed from China to spend time at Wellington College in Berkshire before visiting us. They were keen to discuss educational best practices and to immerse themselves in the vibrant community spirit that defines our school. They were highly impressed by all of the children and the personalised learning that is in place.

I also had the privilege of visiting the new Thomas Richmond site, set to open in September 2025 as a co-educational senior school near the idyllic Richmond Park. I was treated to a private tour of the facilities and, as is customary, I seized the opportunity to advocate for Broomfield. I represented our interests with the view that Thomas’s could be an excellent senior school option for some of our children after their time at Broomfield. The landscape for senior schools is continually evolving, with several innovative schools set to open their doors in the coming years, enriching the options available to our children.

This year’s 11+ results, detailed in our newsletter, are among the strongest I have witnessed during my tenure at the school. It is a testament to the hard work of our children and staff, with every child having a choice of prestigious schools to attend. Some families opted to bypass the 11+ process entirely, taking advantage of the exclusive offer of a priority entrance place at a Dukes senior school. This priority slot into a Dukes Education Group senior school underscores our commitment: once you are part of our family, we are dedicated to taking care of you, supporting each child’s preferred educational pathway, whether through the 11+ or otherwise. I believe this to be a unique model, offering the all-through model while also fiercely remaining a full preparatory school supporting applications to the whole range of excellent schools in London.

I would like to take this opportunity to remind parents of our school’s culture of transparency and openness, with numerous communication channels available for any parent wishing to provide feedback on any aspect of school life. I am thankful for all the parents who have taken time out of their busy schedules this term to catch up at the school gates, send an email, make a phone call, or meet in person. The feedback we receive from the parent community is invaluable, just as it is from the children and staff. It enables us to continually refine and improve our approach. We are always eager to listen, engage, and respect all viewpoints, provided they are communicated through the appropriate channels. I also want to remind parents that the class teacher should always be your first point of contact for any feedback or discussions. Despite their busy schedules, our teachers are always more than willing to find time to discuss your child’s wellbeing, academic progress, school life, teaching methods, pathways, or any other queries you might have. Last year, we also introduced our termly class drop-in sessions for parents, where we invite you to the classroom so the children can proudly show you their work and give you a tour. This is followed by an opportunity to join us for tea or coffee, allowing for further conversation and bringing everyone together. I am grateful for the many positive comments and emails I receive each week from parents. The ongoing support and willingness of our parent community to engage with us through the proper channels are truly appreciated.

As Easter is now upon us, it is not only a season for indulging in chocolate but also a time for reflection and a well-deserved rest for everyone. This term, the children have been exemplary in their efforts and conduct, and I would like to extend my thanks to them all for making the school such a vibrant and fun place to be.

Wishing you all a wonderful Easter break.

Mr Anstey, Headmaster

Broomfield Red Teams Celebrate Third Place at Dukes Tournament!

Broomfield House School’s red team athletes had a fantastic showing at the recent Dukes Netball and Football Tournament, bringing home third place trophies in both sports!

The Broomfield House Red Football team displayed excellent teamwork and determination throughout the competition. Their strong defensive line and coordinated offense proved to be a challenge for their opponents. Despite facing some tough competition, the red team battled hard and secured a well-deserved third place finish.

The Broomfield House Red Netball team also impressed with their agility, speed, and strategic plays. Their ability to intercept passes and convert them into scoring opportunities was a key factor in their success. The close-knit team chemistry and supportive spirit undoubtedly contributed to their third place achievement.

Huge congratulations to both teams on their impressive results at the Dukes Tournament! Their dedication, sportsmanship, and talent are a true testament to the hard work they put in throughout the season.

ISA Maxwell Prize Nomination

We are please to announce that Faraaz Mahmood has been nominated to be put forward for the ISA Maxwell Prize. The prize recognises children for outstanding efforts in their school community. Faraaz has been our Pupil Council and Charities Captain this year and has been an extraordinarily active pupil, always helping to lead and support charitable events while at Broomfield, including the Pakistan Earthquake Appeal, the WWF and the Morocco Earthquake Appeal. Faraaz stated today that he has always been inspired by his mum to do charity work and is currently planning a fundraiser to support civilians affected by the War in Gaza. Faraaz is a diligent, kind and active boy who always has the wider community at the front of his mind and we are delighted that we could recommend Faraaz as a nominee for the Maxwell prize!
