Thank you for all the wonderful donations of birthday books to our school library. It is a Broomfield tradition that children can donate a book to the school library on their birthday. The book is stamped and the details of the child’s birthday are written on the inside and become part of Broomfield history.
To help us keep our records accurate and ensure we communicate with the correct adults, please inform the school as soon as possible if there are any changes to who has parental responsibility for your child. Thank you for your support in keeping our information up to date.
The SOCS booking portal is now open and will close at 6pm Sunday 22 February.
If you would like to sign your child up for any new clubs for the Summer term, please do so via SOCS booking system during this period (except for Cookery Club with which you book directly).
If your child is already in a club, their place will automatically continue into the Summer term unless you cancel it within the above dates. Cancellations must be made through the SOCS portal during the sign‑up/opt‑out window as all clubs require half a term’s notice if you do not wish to continue into the following term..
The Summer Clubs and Enrichment schedule is attached to the newsletter email.

On Tuesday 24 February (first week back after half term) Year 6 will be attending the Dukes Career Day. The children will have swimming as normal in the morning and should bring their normal school bags, etc to school. Please do ensure though that the children have all of their uniform, including hats, for the afternoon trip. The children will have early lunch at 11.45am and will leave school at 12pm to go to St James’ Park on the Tube to the Duke’s House Event which will be a careers event intending to inspire and inform about different careers. The children will be back at 4.50pm when they will be ready to be dismissed for home time. If there are any delays with the Tube, the office will inform you.
We would like to inform you that assessment week for pupils in Years 1, 2 and 3 will take place during the week beginning 23 February. We have found that children are more focused and perform better earlier in the day, which allows them to approach the assessments with confidence and readiness. By staggering the whole school assessments over 2 weeks, this allows all pupils to sit their termly assessments in the morning. In addition to this, pupils will still be able to enjoy their specialist lessons and PE sessions in the afternoon, ensuring their daily routine remains as balanced and engaging as possible.
Run Club is back on Friday 27 February, and we cannot wait to welcome back all our runners. If your child would like to take part, please reach out to Mrs Hanen in the office.

LATEST: Half Term Fun – Part 2 New Openings and Drop in Activities
Valentines Day always falls during the February half term but this year we have also got Shrove Tuesday (pancake races in Leadenhall Market and the Guildhall if you fancy them) and Kung Hei Fat Choi to the Year of the Horse. Plus, a glut of new openings and some fun drop-in activities, inside and out.
Half Term Fun Part 1: Bookable workshops and shows
After a pretty quiet and gloomy January, February arrives with an explosion of fabulous openings and outings to keep kids entertained in London this half term. We have been out and about and have a host of fun suggestions for you.
We have been out and about on a snowdrop hunt. Even where the snowdrops have yet to appear, we have enjoyed some uplifting, muddy walks in glorious surroundings. So, put on your wellies and your raincoats and head into the open air for a stomp to blow away the cobwebs. Enjoy!
Looking for something a bit different? We have been zooming all over town to seek out some lesser-known gems for you to explore. Enjoy discovering these historic and slightly odd new finds with your families.
The bitter weather we have had so far this year has been the perfect preparation for the Winter Olympics, coming back to a snowy EU country for the first time in twenty years. To get you in the mountain spirit, we have come up with some fun winter sports in and around town. Let the Games commence!
We’re coming together to celebrate a very special milestone — the 40th birthday of a much-loved and valued member of our school community, Lukasz.
To mark this special occasion, we’re inviting parents who would like to contribute towards a cash gift as a small token of our appreciation. Any contribution, big or small, would be warmly received.
The Collectiv link (below) will be active until the 25th February.
We are creating a commemorative community cookbook and would love contributions from families. Please share your favourite family recipes — from everyday favourites to dishes that reflect your culture or heritage. With the wonderful diversity of our school, we are really looking forward to recipes from around the world.

To celebrate BHS turning 150, the PTA are launching the BHS 150 Challenge- a whole-school, sponsored Easter initiative inspired by our core values of Curiosity, Creativity, Courage and Kindness.
We would love families to start chatting at home about what your child’s “150” challenge might be. It could involve reading, creating, moving, helping others- or even launching a mini 15-day business sprint. Challenges can be completed during school time, at home or over the Easter holidays.
More details on how to sign up and collect sponsorship will follow shortly. We can’t wait to see the brilliant ideas our community comes up with.
Lost property is a constant challenge in schools, and name labels make a real difference in getting items back to their owners. When ordering labels for uniforms, shoes, water bottles and lunchboxes, you can also support Broomfield House School PTA at no extra cost.
We are now partnering with two excellent name label companies- Stikins (our long-standing partner) and MyNameTags. Simply quote our fundraising number when ordering:
Both offer high-quality, durable labels that withstand countless washes. With half term approaching, it’s the perfect time to label everything before returning to school- an easy way to tick off an essential task while raising funds for the PTA!
This week, all the children at Broomfield House School had the opportunity to participate in an engaging Sumi-e (Japanese ink painting) workshop. Each class attended an individual session led by Satoshi Sonobe, an award-winning Japanese writer, illustrator, and translator.
The children were introduced to the basic principles of ink painting and learned how traditional Japanese ink is produced. They also had the opportunity to paint on authentic Japanese paper and experiment with wet techniques. The session included a short explanation of the origins of kanji characters, enriching their understanding of Japanese culture and art.
Inspired by the twelve animals of the Japanese zodiac, the children explored how to capture the simplified shapes and essence of animals through brush and ink. The results were expressive, confident, and beautifully observed creations.
The children thoroughly enjoyed the workshop and we would like to thank the PTA for funding another successful and inspiring Art Week.
Year 6 had a fantastic trip to the Houses of Parliament, where they enjoyed an exciting and informative tour of this historic building. The children visited both the House of Commons and the House of Lords, learning about how Parliament works and discovering the rich history behind these important chambers from an expert guide. The class also took part in an engaging workshop, where they explored and uncovered different objects that symbolised key aspects of Parliament and democracy. It was a wonderful opportunity to bring their learning to life and deepen their understanding of British values and government. The children represented the school brilliantly and had a truly memorable day!
During this week, we celebrated and raised awareness of children and young people’s mental health. To show our support, we took part in a “Shine Bright, Wear Bright” mufti day on Tuesday. The children wore fantastically colourful outfits, and it was wonderful to see such vibrant energy throughout the school.
Well done to everyone for the amazing effort and donations.
The children amazed us by quickly learning to sing Happy New Year (《新年好》) in Mandarin with help from our Mandarin Club performers and some children who practised with Mrs Li. They discovered that the Spring Festival began over 4,000 years ago and follows the Chinese lunisolar calendar. The children loved hearing about colourful traditions such as dragon dances, red couplets, tasty festive food and special family gatherings. A big wow moment was seeing the long timeline showing how this ancient festival began in China by following the 农历 (Chinese Lunisolar Calendar) and is now celebrated around the world.
It was wonderful to see both children and teachers wearing bright cultural costumes to join the celebration!
Congratulations to all our recipients of the Headmaster’s Award for Spring Term 1 – a fantastic achievement and recognition of the childrens contribution to life at Broomfield. Recipients for Spring Term 1 are: Isla (Y6), Stephen (Y5), Willow (Y4), Ella (Y3), Edie (Y2), Dylan (Y1), Cal (K) and Liam (PK/R3).
On Wednesday, the Year 3 children became citizens of Ancient Greece and spent the day designing and making their very own flatbreads, watching a Greek production and participating in the art of Greek theatre. The children had a great day with new experiences, learning and fun! Chef Nay also treated the whole school to a wonderful Greek-themed lunch which everyone enjoyed.
Otto and Daniel visited Broomfield to do a skateboarding trial that was a huge success. During the session, the children learnt how to stand steady on a skateboard, and experimented with how to skate. They particularly enjoyed learning skateboarding tricks, like different ways to balance and jump on a skateboard. Their favourite position was when the skateboard was flipped sidewards and they got to stand on the wheels. They learnt that falling off is part of becoming better, and used their HPL skills to demonstrate resilience. The session was a lot of fun and left the children feeling like they were too cool for school 😉 They are looking forward to learning how to balance a skateboard on their chins and being just like Otto one day!
The pupil voice requested Forest School for every class and our wonderful PTA have made it possible. Year 4 and Year 5 thoroughly enjoyed their first Forest School experience this morning! They learnt how to start a fire using a flint or a fire-bow, as well as how to safely chop wood for kindling, and build the fire. They also roasted marshmallows and sang a campfire song! Thank you to Scott for a great introduction!
‘It was so satisfying when the cotton wool finally caught and we had a fire!’ – Henry Y5
As always, if you’ve got ideas to make your Broomfield experience extra special, speak to Mrs CW or pop your ideas into the pupil ideas box.
Year 1 had a “crab-ulous” time at London’s Sealife Aquarium. The rock pool was “sea-rrific” (and a little smelly). The children demonstrated curiosity and discovered new rocks and their purpose under water! Firm favourites included the giant sea turtle, waddling penguins and dancing jellyfish. They were perfect ambassadors of Broomfield and made all of us very proud!
Our staff arrived to work today to a lovely surprise from our wonderful PTA. We received a delivery of the most delicious cookies for Valentines Day which were given to staff at this morning’s assembly. Thank you very much.
Over the last few weeks, Kindergarten have been learning all about maps! As part of our learning, the children are making maps of Kew. Before creating their own maps, we took a walk around Kew Village to see what we needed to include. During our visit, the children were very observant, noticing all the street names and reading the names of the different shops. They also spotted a bus stop and Kew Gardens tube station, which they were excited to add to their maps. Back in the classroom, the children used their observations to create some beautiful maps of Kew. Well done to all our young explorers for their curiosity and creativity!
Broomfield House School proudly took 12 pupils to the ISA Cross Country Regionals held at Sherfield School on 13th February 2026. The course was challenging, with testing terrain and strong competition from schools across the region. Every single Broomfield runner demonstrated determination, resilience and excellent sportsmanship throughout their races. A special mention must go to Frankie in Year 5, who delivered an outstanding performance to secure qualification for the ISA National Finals. This is a tremendous achievement and a testament to Frankie’s hard work and commitment. We are incredibly proud of all our runners for representing the school so brilliantly.
The Broomfield swim team competed at the Richmond Borough Gala held at Pools on the Park on Thursday 12th February 2026. Facing strong competition from across the borough, our swimmers demonstrated determination, focus and excellent team spirit throughout the gala. Every member of the team performed to a high standard and represented the school with pride. A special congratulations goes to Frankie and Camilla, who both won their respective heats with outstanding swims and posted impressive times that should place them highly overall. Thank you to all the swimmers for their tremendous effort and commitment.
Last week in their PSHE lesson, Year 2 worked in groups to create an imaginary bird for their Garden of Dreams and Goals. The task included thinking about what each team member could add to the creation, working as a team and selecting materials for designs based on what they want their bird to portray – calm, happy, etc.
On Monday in Eco Club, the children did some habitat mapping. Tthey had various observation sheets to fill in about the school grounds and the kind of habitats that are present from the trees and the pond, etc. Some of the group went on to complete maps of the school grounds, labelling where the buildings are: the astro, the trees, flowers and pond. When Eco Club returns after half term, it is the Great British School Clean, and the children will do a litter pick on Monday 2 March. Every little helps!
Alice (Y6) recently took part in a professional music recording for the Little People, BIG DREAMS 10th‑anniversary release. Singing with the children’s section and featuring in two solo lines, this was her first experience on a worldwide music track. We’re incredibly proud of her!
