Thoughts from the Study

Community and continued success

Last night’s PTA Quiz Night was a perfect reminder of everything that makes Broomfield so special. The hall was buzzing with laughter, healthy competition, delicious food (provided by an ex-Broomfieldian) and community spirit, culminating in a razor-thin (yet glorious) victory for the teachers’ team, winning by just half a point! A huge thank you to our thriving PTA for bringing parents, friends, and staff together for such a superb evening with expert compèring and quiz mastery leading the fun. Events like these reflect the strong bonds that underpin our school culture, where community and connection are the golden threads running through all that we do.

I believe this sense of togetherness is also what fuels our continued academic success. You may already have heard that, once again, we are celebrating an outstanding set of 11+ results. Our Year 6 pupils secured 105 senior school offers, including 11 scholarships, across 22 different independent schools. For a proudly non-selective prep school, this achievement stands tall among even the most academically selective schools in London.

Here is a snapshot of our recent three year performance for greater context:

Year Senior School Offers Scholarships Schools Represented Prediction Accuracy
2023 74 5 24 93%
2024 68 14 22 93%
2025 105 11 22 97%

These superb outcomes are of course the product of years of personalised teaching, evidence based planning, and a whole school commitment to nurturing every individual child. Each Broomfield pupil is on their own journey, and it is through our strategic, holistic, and child-centred approach that we deliver the remarkable value added progress that we see in our academic data, empowering every child to fulfil their potential.

A key part of our 11+ success is our expert support for parents. We walk alongside families every step of the way, offering transparent and thoughtful advice that helps each child find the senior school that is right for them, academically, socially, and emotionally. This approach means fewer applications, greater confidence, and exceptional outcomes. We are all deeply ambitious for all our children, whether they are aiming for the most academically selective destinations or seeking a more holistic pathway.

The true success of a Broomfield education however, goes far beyond the 11+. All of the staff team are dedicated to ensuring that children who come through Broomfield are inspired and empowered to flourish. We want our children to become anti-fragile individuals, ready to face challenges with resilience, build strong and healthy relationships, and contribute meaningfully to the world around them. Through our approach, they develop the values, self-awareness, and confidence they need to thrive in an ever-evolving society where virtuous character and emotional intelligence are paramount.

To all our families, thank you for your trust, partnership, and belief throughout this past term. Although, we look forward to a rest in school, the work continues as we focus on own marginal gains ambition to build something truly extraordinary at Broomfield, a journey that is just getting started.

Wishing you all the best for a restful Easter break,

Mr Anstey

Reminders
and Notices

School Fee Update

We would usually provide an update on our school fees for the upcoming academic year during the Easter break. However, due to ongoing analysis and guidance regarding the potential impact of VAT and Employers’ National Insurance contributions, we will be taking a little more time to finalise our approach.

We aim to share the fee schedule for the 2025–26 academic year early next term.

As outlined in September, any fee increase will remain in line with historical norms, broadly reflecting cost-of-living considerations. It will not include any additional uplift for VAT.

We understand this is a slight change from previous years and are grateful for your patience and continued support.

Kindergarten

Music Matters

We are excited to announce the launch of our Kindergarten violin project at the start of the summer term, a joint initiative funded by the PTA and the school. Starting next term, all Kindergarten children will receive group violin lessons during their regular Monday music sessions, led by Mrs. Kim-Shin (violin teacher) and Ms Fourie. Each child will have a violin stored safely at school and will learn to hold and play the instrument as part of a group, building on their existing musical knowledge. The project will run throughout the summer term, culminating in a concert towards the end. No prior violin experience is needed, and all instruments and materials will be provided by the school. We are confident this initiative will enhance the musical opportunities available to Broomfield children.

Highlights

Year 6 Adventures in Spain!

We have had an incredible week in Aguilas, Spain for our annual Year 6 trip. The children created unforgettable memories with their friends and had so many incredible experiences. The highlights included bonding with the monitores (guides) and an unforgettable boat trip around the island. On the first few days, the children were very adventurous by taking part in some water sports. They tried kayaking, paddle boarding and BIG SUP. The evening activities were full of fun, taking part in talent shows, cookery classes and dancing.

Our biggest highlight was a day spent on the beach, taking part in a Big Beach Clean. We collected 8 bags of plastic and non- plastic waste. It made us all extremely proud to bring our Eco School to another country and give back to the community of Aguilas in some small way. All of the people we met through the week were so impressed with our fantastic children.

Special thanks to Mrs. Zammit, Mrs. Ali, Mr Kennedy, Mrs. Hughes, and Miss. Travis.

Beach Clean Challenge – Broomfield’s Eco Efforts Continue in Spain!

The children noticed the alarming amount of rubbish washed up on the beach in Spain and decided to take action. With great enthusiasm, they worked in teams to conduct a beach clean, collecting as much litter as they could. As you can see from the photos, they were able to gather a significant amount of rubbish, demonstrating their commitment to caring for the environment.

The children were rightly proud of their efforts, and it was heartening to see Broomfield’s eco credentials extending beyond the school grounds – even on holiday!

Year 3 Handwriting Certificates

This week, Year 3 were proudly awarded their handwriting certificates, marking an exciting milestone in their learning journey. The children can now make the transition from pencil to pen – a step that reflects their hard work in mastering their handwriting skills.

Gtech Stadium

This week, Year 5 had an unforgettable experience at Brentford FC’s Gtech Stadium! They explored the home team’s dressing room, participated in a powerful allyship workshop in the press conference room, and even had the incredible opportunity to walk out onto the pitch, just like the professionals. During the workshop, they gained valuable insight into advocating for underrepresented groups and how footballers use their platform to promote inclusivity. The most memorable moment of the day was receiving a Brentford shirt, gifted to Broomfield, as a lasting token of this incredible experience.

Karate Grading

This week, our karate pupils took part in their much anticipated grading exams, demonstrating the progress and skills they have developed over the term. Each child showcased their technique. It was wonderful to see our pupils rise to the challenge, and we are proud of their hard work. Congratulations to all children who successfully passed their grading. We look forward to watching you continue in your karate journey!

Lego Club

Our Lego Club continues to be a favourite among children, providing a fun and engaging way for them to explore their creativity. Each session allows them to build unique structures, while developing problem-solving skills and working as a team. It’s wonderful to see every week what they come up with next!

Art Highlight

Year 1 painted Easter Bunnies with ink. They worked on their brush control and looked at colour mixing.

PTA Easter Egg Hunt

The children enjoyed a fantastic Easter Egg Hunt despite the rain. The buzz of excitement around the school was palpable. Everyone enjoyed taking home their delicious treats from the PTA.

PTA Quiz Night - A Battle of Wits!

Last night’s PTA Quiz Night was a fantastic evening filled with laughter, friendly rivalry, and plenty of head-scratching moments. Teams from across the school community put their knowledge to the test—while also competing in a surprise paper plane flying competition!
In a fiercely contested battle, the Staff & Teachers table emerged victorious, narrowly edging out Year 6’s (brilliantly named) team, “Les Quizerables”, by just half a point! Congratulations to Mr. Anstey, Mrs. Carver Williams, Miss Sangtabi, Miss Bendall, and Mrs. Murdoch on their well-earned success. If nothing else, the evening confirmed that the staff teaching our children do know more than we do!
A particular highlight of the night was the fantastic introduction by Mairi Fernandez-Ares (Gabby in Year 1’s mum), who can take comfort in knowing that if her career in HR ever stalls, she has a bright future in stand-up comedy instead!
The paper plane competition also provided some unforgettable moments, with a special mention to Yusuf Ozadelga (Ela in Year 6’s father), whose impressive flight soared all the way from the stage to the back corner of the hall.
The evening was made even better with a delicious supper provided by Curry BAE on Sandycombe Road—a local business owned by a former Broomfield student.
A huge thank you to everyone who took part, and a special shoutout to our fantastic quizmaster duo, Andrew and Amanda (Henry in Year 2’s parents), who kept the night running smoothly and made it such a fun experience for all.
We can’t wait for the next one—maybe next time, the parents will reclaim the shield?!
