Year 6

Netball Match

The Year 6 girls have a match against Sheen Mount next Wednesday at Westerley Ware. Parents are welcome to watch. The game will start at 2pm.

 

Year 2

Each year in the spring term, Mrs Pache screens all children in Year 2 for dyslexia. The screeners are done online in the IT Lab and the results are shared with parents. The process does not offer a diagnosis but can suggest if further investigation may be helpful. We plan to complete the screener with the children in Year 2 over the next couple of weeks. Kindergarten

KINDERGARTEN TRIP TO RED BEARD FOREST SCHOOL 

Kindergarten are excited for their upcoming trip to the amazing Red Beard Forest School at Syon Park on Friday 24th January. The children will depart school at 9am and will return at approximately 12pm. The children should wrap up well in their school uniform, with layers of clothing and warm boots/shoes as they will be outside for the entire session. Chef Nay will prepare snacks and the class will be back at school in time for a warm lunch. They will be exploring winter in the great outdoors, woodland crafts and building a campfire.

PTA Handbook

We now have a PTA Handbook which we hope is helpful for new and existing parents. Thanks to all who have contributed to it! Please can reps send it to new families when they join BHS.

Lunar New Year Celebration 2025

We are delighted to announce BHS PTA’s first school-wide Lunar New Year celebration event on Sunday 2nd February 2025. This event is open to all BHS families.
There will be traditional Chinese face-changing opera performance (“bian lian”), dumpling making, Chinese calligraphy ink writings, year of snake crafts, good fortune scratch card games, chopstick challenges and more.
Face-changing is an ancient Chinese dramatic art which is known as China’s earliest magic. The performers wear brightly coloured costumes and several masks that quickly change. With great honour, we are having two professional face-changing performers to join us, Mr Zhang and his apprentice Mr Liu. Both of them are active on Chinese domestic and international stages.
We hope many of you can join us.

Calendar - Spring Term PTA Events

Our next PTA meeting is on Monday. Please see agenda here (BHS 2024 25 SpringTerm Meeting 1 Agenda), and a pre-read (Spring Term Meeting 1 Pre Read 2025) for Reps. All parents are welcome. Our focus will be on the upcoming Auction/PTA Quiz and this year’s Summer Fair “Broomfest” which will be festival themed due to coinciding with Glastonbury.

PTA Highlights

Parents Xmas Social 2024

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us at the GTech Community Stadium on December 13th for a truly festive and joyous evening to wrap up the term. It was wonderful to see so many of you come together to celebrate, laugh, and dance the night away.
The Year 6 table was particularly merry – a well-earned celebration after supporting their children through a term of exams! From the shared laughter to the spirited conversations, the evening truly captured the holiday spirit.
Special mention must go to the DJ, who may have resisted our early song suggestions, but redeemed himself spectacularly in the final hour with some nostalgic noughties hits. Watching the Broomfield parents channel their inner Backstreet Boys was a highlight, and the dance floor was buzzing as everyone threw their best shapes.
Thank you all for making it such a memorable night. And huge thanks to all who contributed to the logistics and organising! If you would like to help plan our next parents social – reach out!

Highlights

Pledge Tree

Eco club returned on Monday and we started making a pledge tree out of recycled paper with the eco club members making their pledges to the planet for 2025.

This is something we would like to roll out to the rest of the school – pupils and staff. Please use the leaf template attached here (Pledge Leaf) to decorate and fill in with the children’s pledge/promise – please include their name and year group. These will then all be added to the Eco Club noticeboard.

Some ideas for pledges:

  • I pledge to  switch off the lights when I leave a room.
  • I pledge to walk or scoot to school everyday.
  • I pledge to plant some flowers.
  • I pledge to only eat vegetables that are in season.
  • I pledge to recycle more.
  • I pledge to go litter picking.

There will be a box in reception or the front hallway for the children to post their pledges in.

It would be great to have a tree full of pledges!

Year 4

Year 4 explored simple circuits this week! Pupils investigated how electricity flows by creating their own basic circuits using wires, batteries, and bulbs.

Rose - Winners Football Competition

Rose House Reign Supreme in Penalty Shootout Thriller

In a thrilling Interhouse Football Tournament, Rose House emerged victorious, defeating both Mead House and Palmer House. The final showdown against Palmer House proved to be a nail-biting affair, with neither team able to break the deadlock in regulation time.

The match then progressed to a penalty shootout, where the nerves of steel of the Rose House players shone through. With each save and successful penalty, the tension mounted, culminating in a dramatic victory for Rose House.

The team displayed exceptional teamwork, skill, and sportsmanship throughout the tournament, earning them the admiration of fellow students and staff alike.

Congratulations to Rose House on their hard-fought triumph!

Pre-Kindergarten: Azlin: Azlin has been enthusiastic, eager and focused in lessons. She likes to share her ideas, and her sense of humour always makes us smile! Well done Azlin
Kindergarten: Bo: Bo has had a wonderful start to Kindergarten. She has settled in fantastically and we are thrilled to have her as a new member of Kindergarten.
Year 1: Emilia: You have returned to school with the utmost enthusiasm and are enjoying challenging yourself, especially in maths. It has been wonderful to watch you grow in confidence and capability across the curriculum. Keep up the excellent work!
Year 2: Kazuto: You were a wonderful Japanese interpreter for Sarah on her trial day, showing great empathy for how it feels to be new in a classroom full of new children, especially when it was difficult for Sarah to speak to others and understand them.
Year 3: Jane: For starting the Spring term with a positive mindset and being kind to your friends in the class. You always work hard in lessons and set an excellent example for others.
Year 4: Giovanni: He has returned to school with a very positive attitude and has been working particularly hard on his handwriting and the general presentation of his work. A super start to the Spring term – keep it going!
Year 5: Elsa: For her continued and attentive behaviour in lessons and for always setting the highest example for everyone to follow.
Year 6: Victor: For his engagement, effort and wonderful manners in all of his lessons and with staff.
