On Wednesday 10th December, the children will watch the pantomime “Snow White” in the Hall from 1.45pm to 3.30pm. It is promised to be a fabulous show. Please note there will be no games for Years 4 – 6 that day.
One of our Year 1 mums, Som Holliday, has written a draft of a children’s Christmas story about how Kew Gardens got their Christmas Lights. If you have time this weekend, Som would love your help to read the story (just 500 words!) with your children and answer a few short questions. You can access the story and survey through this link. Please submit any entries by Wednesday 10th December.
Thank you to our families for supporting Kew Sparkle via our Christmas Jumper day today! If you were unable to send in money with your child, do utilise our digital link: 👉 https://pay.collctiv.com/christmas-jumper-day-kew-sparkle-40186
All proceeds will be passed onto the Kew Sparkle team, including a donation to the chosen charity this year, which is Small Steps. They support disabled children under the age of 5 and their families by working towards each child’s next developmental steps. The charity also provides weekly sessions for children with a parent or carer using principles of conductive education for a holistic approach. (Year 5 in their Christmas Jumpers below).
We hope you can make it to Kew Sparkle this evening, which is held in Kew Village. The festivities will begin a little earlier this year at 4.00 p.m. with a special ‘Nutcracker’ themed performance by the Richmond Dance Collective on the main stage.
Our Year 3 class will perform at 4.50pm and we would love you to come along and cheer on your friends!
As ever, there will be some fabulous craft and food stalls, street entertainment, rides for the children and Santa will be in his Grotto at Trindles Store. Plus, the lovely farm animals are returning this year too!
This year the Grotto will be trialling a new queuing system, make sure you purchase your wristband before joining the Grotto queue. Wristbands will be sold from the stand outside The Shoe Station.
Our wonderful Karate Club still has some availability for the Spring Term. See below information and contact Mrs Hanen at office@broomfieldhouse.com if you would like to know more.
The Year 2 – Year 6 children have been busy rehearsing for our annual Carol Service at St Anne’s Church on Thursday 11th December at 1:45pm. Children should attend school in their full winter uniform including grey coats and school hats (no beanies). (There will also be a Church Rehearsal on Monday 8th December where full winter uniform should also be worn). If children have PE on Monday, they should bring their PE kit in a separate bag to change into.
There will be no games for Years 2 and 3 on Thursday 11th December.
After the service on Thursday 4th all children will be dismissed from St Anne’s Church at approximately 3:15pm. All Thursday clubs will still be running and the children attending these clubs will be brought back to school. If you would like your child to return to school for collection or if someone else will be collecting your child, please let the office know by Tuesday 9th December as the dismissal registers are completed the day before the event.
Parents of our Year 2 – Year 6 children are invited to join us for the Carol Service at St Anne’s Church and for a mince pie and mulled wine in the side annex at St Anne’s beforehand. Please arrive from 1:15pm for a prompt 1:45pm start. No food or drink should be taken into the church. There will be a retiring collection, the proceeds of which will be divided between the Fabric Fund of St Anne’s Church and Shelter.
We ask parents not to take photographs or videos on the day as this is not permitted in the church. Photographs will be taken at the dress rehearsal, and a link will be shared with parents.
Our long-standing tradition of visiting the Cecil Court Residential Care Home for our annual carolling will take place on Tuesday 9th December at 11am. The Year 5 and Year 6 children will walk to Cecil Court with Mrs Wrigley-Smith, Miss Fourie and teaching staff. All children should be in their winter uniforms and will need their grey coats and school hats.

This week, Emory in Year 1 showcased creativity and kindness, all while demonstrating a genuine care for the environment. Traditionally, classes at Broomfield have a post box where the children post Christmas cards or letters to one another. Emory masterfully worked alongside his mummy to design a post box money couldn’t buy! He recycled and reused materials to promote sustainability. It’s safe to say we have a real life Santa’s Little Helper in Year 1. A huge thank you to Emory and his Mummy for making the prettiest post box. His creativity and kindness is commendable and a perfect reminder of what Christmas is all about!🌟 🎄

What a fantastic festive Breakfast with Santa we had today! A huge thank you to the PTA for all their wonderful efforts in making this a wonderful event for the entire Broomfield community. This week, Year 5 have been learning about reversible and non-reversible changes during science. They mixed warm milk with vinegar, causing the strings of casein in the milk to clump together, forming a type of plastic. Believe it or not, jewellery made using this process was very popular in the early 20th century!
Last Friday, Year 2 enjoyed an exciting Forest School session, filled with hands-on learning and outdoor exploration. We began with leaf-printing, where we used charcoal to colour over a piece of paper on top of a leaf. The children carefully chose their leaves based on texture and were delighted to see the detailed patterns appear. They then talked about how the leaves felt and looked. Then, the group gathered at the fire circle for our fire and water-boiling activity. We revisited our fire-safety rules and talked about how to keep ourselves and others safe. The children developed their understanding of the fire triangle and the three elements a fire needs to ignite: heat, fuel and oxygen. Once the fire kettle was burning well, they observed how the heat changed the water as it began to boil. They were thrilled when we used the hot water to make hot chocolate!
This week in science, the Year 3 children have been carefully designing and crafting their own fossils out of clay. The children drew on their knowledge of rocks and fossils as well as taking inspiration from our recent trip to the Natural History Museum.
On Monday we talked about Christmas and how we can have a more eco-friendly Christmas from buying a tree with its roots so we can plant and use again to simpler ideas such as using recycled wrapping paper.
Some of the children went out into the playground and asked the students of Broomfield House if they would pledge to do some of following over the festive period…
I pledge to:
Make some of my Christmas decorations
Make at least one of my Christmas cards
Use recycled wrapping paper
Make at least one of my Christmas gifts
Buy some of my gifts from a charity/second hand shop
To only have in season vegetables with my Christmas dinner
To make a donation to a charity over the festive period.
The survey wasn’t about getting everyone to commit to all of the above but simply to raise awareness of the little things that you can do to make a difference. We also started work on some of the above by making our own cards and decorations – some examples attached. With the decorations we set out making our own little Christmas village using just toilet rolls and colouring pens 😁.
