Thoughts from the Study
Merry Christmas
As the final Thoughts from the Study for this term and indeed the year, I want to share an abstract from the speech I delivery at our Carol Service at St Anne’s church in Kew a few weeks back.
As we gather here in this historic church, illuminated by the warm glow of the festive season, I am again reminded of what a privilege it is to be part of this vibrant and inspiring school. The end of the autumn term is always a time to reflect on our journey so far and look ahead with hope and excitement to the future.
This term has been nothing short of remarkable. We have seen your children grow in confidence, embrace challenges, and immerse themselves in the joy of learning. Whether it was mastering new concepts in the classroom, working together on projects, or rehearsing the beautiful carols we have heard today, they have demonstrated the values that define a Broomfield child.
At Broomfield, we believe that education is about so much more than just excellent academic achievement. Our mission is to inspire and empower children to flourish, not just here at school but for their entire life. We nurture them to become anti-fragile individuals, young people who face challenges with resilience, build strong, healthy relationships, and contribute positively to the world around them. Through every lesson taught, every character-building moment shared, and every virtue cultivated, we lay a foundation for happiness, well-being, and a deep sense of purpose.
The Christmas story offers us a poignant reminder of these values. In the journey of Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem, we see resilience and faith. In the kindness of those who provided them shelter, we see the power of community and compassion. These lessons echo through the carols we sing and the stories we share at this time of year. They remind us that even the smallest acts of kindness can bring about the greatest light.
Much like Mary and Joseph, our children are on their own journeys. Every day, they encounter challenges and opportunities to grow. They learn not only from their teachers and parents, but from each other, collaborating, supporting, and celebrating one another. This spirit of togetherness is the cornerstone of our school. It is what enables our children to rise to every challenge, embrace change, and prepare to be catalysts for a better world.
As we celebrate this festive season, let us take a moment to appreciate the incredible progress our children have made. Let us thank them for their boundless curiosity, their courage, and their kindness. They remind us of the simple yet profound truths that often go unnoticed in the busyness of life, that greatness lies in humility, that strength is found in community, and that joy can be found in the smallest of moments.
Parents, your support is integral to everything we achieve as a school. Thank you for entrusting us with your children and for walking this journey alongside us. I strongly believe that together, we are shaping a generation of young people who will go on to make the world a brighter and better place.
May this Christmas bring you and your families peace, joy, and the light of hope. And as we look to the year ahead, let us do so with the confidence that, together, we can face any challenge and embrace every opportunity.
Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
