At Broomfield, the safeguarding of our school community is everyone’s responsibility and the welfare, health and safety of all pupils in our care is given the highest priority at all times.
Our Board of Governors has ultimate oversight of safeguarding to ensure our safeguarding and child protection policy is implemented effectively and updated as and when legislative changes occur whilst paying due regard to Keeping Children Safe in Education Sept 2025.
Our governor with responsibility for safeguarding is Ms Rachel Friend.
The day-to-day management of safeguarding and child protection is delegated by our Board of Governors to the school’s safeguarding team.
Our safeguarding team is led by Miss Sara Sangtabi, Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL). She can be contacted at ssangtabi@broomfieldhouse.com. Further contact details can be found in our Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy.
The Deputy DSL is Mr Adam Anstey. Additional DDSL is Mrs Melissa Zammit.
The DSL will immediately report any concerns to Richmond Single Point of Access (SPA) where advice can be sought, a referral can be made and support can be planned.
Anyone can make a direct referral to an external statutory agency (of which Richmond SPA is one such Agency) under our duty of care obligations without the requirement to contact parents / carers if they consider this to be in the interests of the child.

Operation Encompass – Supporting the Wellbeing of Our Pupils
As part of our statutory obligations, our school is now required to work in partnership with the Metropolitan Police Service as part of their safeguarding initiative, Operation Encompass.
Operation Encompass is a national scheme that ensures schools are notified when a child (under the age of 18) has been exposed to or involved in a domestic incident. This may include situations where the child was not physically present but is part of the household. The notification is usually made to the school before the start of the next school day.
This information will be shared, in confidence, with a designated member of our safeguarding team; Miss Sangtabi (Designated Safeguarding Lead). The safeguarding team will then ensure appropriate support is in place to ensure the wellbeing of the child. Where necessary, we may be able to make provisions or adjustments to assist the child and their family.
We are committed to providing the highest level of care and support for all our pupils, and we believe that participating in Operation Encompass will help us to respond promptly and appropriately when children may need extra support.
