About Broomfield House School

Broomfield is an independent co-educational school in the heart of Kew for children aged 3 to 11. We are proud to be Kew’s oldest private school, educating and inspiring local children since 1876.

At Broomfield, we believe in fostering a love of learning and a sense of curiosity in every child. Our dedicated staff create a supportive environment where children feel valued and encouraged to explore their interests. With a strong emphasis on academic excellence, creativity, and character development, we prepare our children for a successful transition to senior schools that align with their individual strengths and aspirations.

Our curriculum is enriched with specialist teaching in subjects such as art, music, drama, languages, and physical education. We offer a wide range of extracurricular activities, including sports, clubs, and trips, to broaden our pupils’ experiences and help them discover new passions.

Located next to the world-renowned Kew Gardens, our school benefits from its proximity to nature, providing unique learning opportunities and a tranquil setting for our children. Our facilities include spacious classrooms, art and music studios, a computing lab and access to outdoor spaces for play and exploration.

We understand that choosing the right school for your child is an important decision. We invite you to visit Broomfield House School to see firsthand the vibrant and nurturing environment we offer. Please contact Mrs. Abensur to arrange a tour or to discuss any questions you may have about our admissions process.

We look forward to welcoming you to the Broomfield community and partnering with you in your child’s educational journey.

Admissions Process

Registration is open from birth, and we recommend registering your child as early as possible. Our main entry point is our nursery class (Pre-Kindergarten) in September after a child’s third birthday.

For Pre-Kindergarten, the first to register will join our Main List, which means they are guaranteed the offer of a place. After that, and for entry to all other year groups, we run a Waiting List. Registration cannot guarantee the offer of a place.

1 - Book a Visit

Every day is an open day at Broomfield House School. We welcome parents for bespoke weekly tours of the school. As a small school we are proud to take every family on an individual or small group tour which allows us to spend more time together. There will also be an opportunity to meet with the Headmaster where you can ask any questions you may have.

If you are overseas, we recommend booking a virtual meeting.

3 - Entry Points – Offers for Pre-Kindergarten (Nursery)

Our main entry point is our nursery class in the September after a child’s third birthday. Offers are made in registration order, in the autumn term prior to the year of entry.

We give priority to younger siblings, children of former pupils and staff and to children attending our sister nursery schools, Riverside Nurseries.

Children must be registered to receive an offer. Any children joining the Pre-Kindergarten (Nursery) class will automatically progress into our Kindergarten (Reception) class in the following September.

Casual Admissions: We maintain a waiting list for children seeking admission into all other year groups, either at the start of an academic year or during the year, depending on availability. Please contact us to find out whether a place might be available in the relevant year group. For children entering in Year 2 and above we ask your son or daughter to join us for a Taster Day and to do some gentle assessments with us. They would experience some lessons and enjoy lunch and break times with their prospective classmates. Based on this, we may make a formal offer of a place and you would also know how your child feels about us. If necessary the assessments can be carried out remotely.

4 - How to Accept an Offer of Place

When you receive your offer, you will be given 7 days, together with instructions on how to accept it. Acceptance of a place must be accompanied by a deposit payment of £3000, at this stage. The autumn term fees will be requested in advance during the Spring term, after the 1st March. Both the deposit and the advance fees are non-refundable on withdrawal of an accepted place, before attendance at the school.  The deposit is refunded to parents, once the child leaves Year 6, subject to any outstanding fees being settled.

5 - Before the First Day

After a place has been accepted and confirmed, we want to make sure that your child is comfortable with the move to their new school. For Pre-Kindergarten children, we will host a number of events leading up to their first day in school, including time to meet their new teacher and classmates.

The Dukes Village

Broomfield House is part of the Dukes Education family of schools and educators, united by a common purpose: to give children the foundations for an extraordinary life. We create clusters of nurseries and schools in village locations to offer families an all-through education journey within their local area.

Dukes Education is committed to a smooth transition from nursery to prep school. With a focus on nurturing each child’s potential, we ensure that early years learning seamlessly flows into their prep school journey. Families from Little Dukes nurseries benefit from a guaranteed entry policy, meaning that when children are ready for Reception, their place in a Dukes prep school is assured—subject to availability and the child’s ability to thrive within the school’s ethos and curriculum.

Starting with a Little Dukes nursery provides a strong foundation and continuity as children grow. This guaranteed progression allows families to plan confidently, knowing their child can flourish in a familiar, supportive environment that celebrates their individuality.

We have some exciting news to share! 🎉
