Admissions

We are delighted that you are interested in joining the Broomfield House School community.  Our school is a happy, homely place in which children are both nurtured and stimulated to achieve their potential.  We aim for our children to be excited by their learning and to develop ambitions for their futures, before moving on to the senior school that offers the best fit for them.

Broomfield is an independent co-educational school in the heart of Kew for children aged 3 to 11.  We are proud to be Kew’s oldest private school, educating and inspiring local children since 1876. London is an exciting international city and our school represents a lovely mix of mostly long-standing local families, with some pupils from all over the world who have settled here permanently or are living in the capital for a period of time.

Mrs Abensur, our Head of Admissions, is happy to answer any questions you may have and she can be reached on 020 8940 3884 or by email on admissions@broomfieldhouse.com.

Entry Points

Pre-Kindergarten: Our main entry point is our nursery class in the September after a child’s third birthday.  Offers are made in the autumn term prior to the year of entry.  We give priority to younger siblings, children of former pupils and staff and to children attending our sister nursery schools, Riverside Nurseries.  Children must be registered to receive an offer. Any children joining the Pre-Kindergarten class will automatically progress into our Kindergarten (Reception) class in the following September.

Casual Admissions: We maintain a waiting list for children seeking admission into all other year groups, either at the start of an academic year or during the year, depending on availability.

Assessments

We do not asses children joining our Early Years and Transition classes.  For children entering in Year 2 and above we ask your son or daughter to join us for a trial morning and to do some gentle assessments with us.  They would experience some lessons and enjoy lunch and break times with their prospective classmates.  Based on this, we may make a formal offer of a place and you would also know how your child feels about us.  If necessary the assessments can be carried out remotely.

Early Years Induction

We hold an afternoon in June for children joining our Early Years’ classes.  The children have a fun time in the school gym with a wide range of activities and equipment.  They will explore their new classrooms, meet their teaching team and spend time with each other.  Parents will be briefed on what to expect when joining Broomfield and to be introduced to key staff.  There is also time to chat with other new parents and maybe begin making friends among those who are starting their school journey together.

Years 1-6 Induction

Once you have accepted an offer we make suitable induction arrangements for your children, including spending time with their peers in school.  New families are welcome to send their children to our Easter and Summer Holiday Schools as way of introducing them to our staff, buildings and children.  These courses are fun, based on sports, arts and crafts and are run by our teachers in the holidays.
