Poetry Together: Competition Finalist

Poetry Together Logo

A hearty congratulations to Elena in Year 5 who was a finalist in the Poetry Together competition for her charming and funny poem, My Soggy Doggy.  Elena and her friend Nina were invited to join Gyles Brandreth and the judges for a lovely event held at Sancton Wood School in Cambridge.  Mrs Pache and Mrs Brown accompanied the girls and were so proud when Elena took to the stage to recite her poem in front of the large audience, with confidence and aplomb.  The girls also enjoyed poetry workshops led by the judges, who included Joseph Coelho, who led sessions at Broomfield in 2021 for years 3 to 6, which were funded by the PTA.  Here is the poem that led to Elena’s happy day.

My Soggy Doggy

One of the things that makes me laugh,

Is playing with my dog after his bath.

He likes to wiggle when he has his soak,

And then he tries to eat the soap.

He is not a big fan of all the bubbles,

But after that he makes lots of trouble.

Scout is very cute and sometimes a good boy,

But at the end, he gives me tears of joy.
