Popular author visits Broomfield

Posted: 29th April 2022

Brilliant author, Sylvia Bishop, came to Broomfield this week and led an assembly focusing on what writing a book involves.  She explained that you can find a lot out on the internet but this really cannot beat experiencing something for yourself.  She had enjoyed amazing journeys while researching for her books, including a trip on the Orient Express, making notes and observations along the way.

Sylvia also ran story-writing workshops in each of the Year 3 to 6 classes, giving excellent tips on how to start a story even if you are devoid of ideas and using word association to develop an initial thought into a plan for an exciting tale!  The children came up with some terrific ideas of their own and there were lively class discussions.  Many of the children bought signed copies of her books and it was wonderful to see some children reading them at morning break – clearly they were hooked!  We are grateful to The Alligator’s Mouth Bookshop in Richmond for supporting our visit and sharing their stock of Sylvia’s books.
