Tableaux vivant in the National Gallery

Posted: 3rd February 2020

Year 3 had a lovely day of art and drama at the National Gallery where they were looking for inspiration around tales from Ancient Greece ready for writing Greek myths of their own.  They posed in front of some old masters, recreating the painted images to dramatic effect.  In the morning they were lucky enough to have a whole gallery to themselves, drawing their individual versions of the artworks that took their fancy.  An entertaining guide really brought the paintings to life, explaining the symbolism behind some of the detail in the pictures. The children impressed the guide with their knowledge of Ancient Greek characters and adventures, and behaved very respectfully in the Galleries, making Mr Hepper proud.  Here they are in a tableaux vivant in front of Giordano’s Perseus Turning Phineas and his Followers to Stone.
