On Monday 11th November, we will hold our annual Remembrance Day Service in the school playground. We invite parents to join us as we observe 2 minutes silence followed by the last post. Parents should come to the Princes Road gate for 10:55am. Our Head Girl and Head Boy have sold Poppies this week in school to raise money for the Royal British Legion Charity. We will have some available for sale on Monday as well. They cost £2 per poppy and can be bought with cash only.
A reminder that on Tuesday 12th November, we will be taking part in the Odd Socks Day for Anti Bullying Awareness. Children are asked to come to sock in odd socks with their normal uniform/PE kit to support this great initiative and help us celebrate differences.
The Mead House Raffle and Cake Sale will take place on 15th November. Mead families are asked to donate raffle prizes to Mrs De Silva from Monday 11th November please. All children should bring in £1 to buy a raffle ticket which will be sold on Monday 11th. Parents are also asked to bake cakes for the sale which will be held in the playground at 3:30pm. Parents must accompany children buying cakes to confirm any allergies. Kindly remember we are a nut free school when preparing your delicious treats. The allergy form will come home with your child on Monday 11th November and this needs to be completed and attached to your child’s cake. Thank you.
Just a reminder of our jam packed after school enrichment programme, please contact Mrs Crocker if you are interested in booking in to any of the clubs for the Spring term or if you have any questions about the clubs we offer. Details can be found on our SOCS online portal and the enrichment schedule is attached, however dates can sometimes change so for an up to date view please refer to the SOCS portal for information in the first instance. If you are yet to set up your login on SOCS, please email Mrs Crocker and she will send you details.
LAMDA for Year 6 is being reintroduced in the Spring term as always, this will be held on Thursdays during the lunchbreak, please contact the office to book. We have received a few enquiries for Gymnastics on Mondays, however at the moment we do not have enough interested parties for a full class. We are incredibly fortunate that the excellent coaches at Brentford are able to run this for us so please book in if your child has an interest in gymnastics, it’s a great offering. Term dates for Pee Wee Karate and Funakoshi have now been received, please notify the office if your child no longer wishes to continue. Anyone who has taken part in the Autumn will be carried over to the Spring term unless notice is given.
We are keen to get the Senior Science classes on Mondays up and running again along with running club(!) so if you have some budding scientists or runners do take advantage of these fabulous clubs. Science Club is run by Little House of Science and is incredibly popular on Wednesdays with the Junior Scientists (there is currently a waitlist for the Wednesday session), Autumn 2024 Topics included; Wings and How They Fly, Martian Botany: Growing Plants Beyond Earth, Exploring Intelligent Noses in Nature, Journey into the Chemistry of Metals, The World of Mushrooms and Fungi, Spiders and the Web of Wonders, Colourful Chemistry: Exploring Chromatography, Inside Out: Skeletons of Humans and Animals, The Science Behind the Bridge of London, Blending In: Discovering the Science Behind Camouflage, Winds of Change: Exploring Weather on Earth and Beyond. On Thursday 14th November 2024, Year 4 will be visiting the Tower of London. Children should arrive at school at normal time as we will depart at 9:15am and will be travelling by tube. Children need to be in full school uniform and should have their school coat and can wear their Broomfield beanies as it will be cold. Please send your child(ren) to school with hands free bag for their lunch. A packed lunch will be provided for each child by Chef Nay, but please ensure the children have a full water bottle. The children should be back in time for pick-up at 3.30pm, however we will contact all parents to let you know if we have any delays.
On Friday 15th November 2024, Year 3 will be visiting the British Museum, where they will have access to the Egyptian galleries to bring our school learning to life. The children will be travelling by coach and will be leaving at approximately 8.45am so the children need to be at school promptly at 8.30am so we can leave on time. Children need to be in full school uniform with hats and blazers, as this helps us to recognise them if it is busy. Please send your child(ren) to school with the red swimming bag for their lunch as it is lighter to carry. The children will be able to leave their bags in a cloakroom once we have arrived. A packed lunch will be provided for each child by Chef Nay, but please ensure the children have a full water bottle. The children should be back in time for pick-up at 3.30pm, however we will contact all parents to let you know if we have any delays.
We are excited to announce that the Junior Christmas Plays will take place on Thursday, 28th November from 9:00 am to 10:20 am in the school hall.
Thank you so much for your support in helping the children learn their lines at home—it has been a huge help. Please continue to encourage your child to practice their lines at home, ensuring they feel confident and prepared when it’s their turn on stage.
A dress rehearsal will be held on Wednesday, 27th November. On this day, children should come to school dressed in their costumes (please ensure all items are clearly labelled with your child’s name). After the rehearsal, they will change into their school uniforms, leaving their costumes at school for Thursday’s performance. We kindly ask that you provide a labelled bag for the costume to be packed away.
Miss Travis has requested your assistance in supplying your child’s costume. Should you have any questions or need assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact her directly at htravis@broomfieldhouse.com.
Parents of Pre – Kindergarten, Kindergarten, Year 1, and Year 2 children are invited to the shows. We would be grateful if parents could stay for all four performances.

We cannot wait for all the excitement.
The PTA will be holding a second-hand uniform sale on Friday, 15th November, at 3:20 pm.
The next PTA meeting will be held on Monday, 18th November. We kindly ask that at least one representative from each year group attends to ensure all voices are heard. All parents are warmly welcome to join, and it’s a great opportunity to get involved and stay informed about upcoming school initiatives and events.
Pre-Kindergarten enjoyed their autumn trip to Kew Gardens this week. They learnt about the changes we see in autumn, going on an autumn colour hunt and making autumn bracelets with natural materials. We also enjoyed snack and story time in the beautiful surroundings of the gardens. Thank you to all the parents that came along with us!
The annual Parent vs. Children netball and football matches were held on Wednesday. The netball match at Westerly Ware saw a thrilling victory for the young netballers. Despite a valiant effort from the parents, the children showcased exceptional skill, teamwork, and determination, securing a well-deserved win.
Over at Old Deer Park, the football match proved to be a hard-fought battle. The parents, fueled by experience and determination, emerged victorious. While the children put up a strong fight, the parents’ superior tactics and physicality ultimately proved decisive.
Both events were a resounding success, filled with laughter, friendly rivalry, and a strong sense of community. It was a fantastic opportunity for parents and children to bond, exercise, and create lasting memories. Congratulations to all who participated!
In Eco Club this week, the children completed their homemade bug hotels and also built and decorated some store-bought wooden ones. Let’s see which ones the bugs prefer! Some were taken home, but a few are now nestled in the bushes around the pond.
Pre-Kindergarten had a wonderful time learning about the festival of Diwali last week. The children shared photos of their celebrations at home and enjoyed a story about Diwali traditions. We are celebrating World Book Day with a truly special treat this year! Following the success of yesterday’s incredible Dukes Great British Bake Off, we are launching our first-ever Dukes Great British Bake-Off Recipe Book with families this week.

We were delighted to be joined by Aatif Hassan, Chairman and Founder of Dukes Education, and Tim Fish, UK CEO, who celebrated the children’s fantastic creations alongside us.
A huge thank you also to all the English departments who took part, celebrating not just baking, but the love of books and storytelling through food. And last but not least, a special thank you to Lauren Carver Williams, Head of KS1 at Broomfield House School, for her incredible work in organising this event!
