Each year in the spring term we screen all children in Year 2 for dyslexia. Next week we will complete the screener with any children in Years 3 – 6 who have joined Broomfield since last spring. The screeners are done online in the IT Lab and the results are shared with parents. The process does not offer a diagnosis but can suggest if further investigation may be helpful. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs Pache at jpache@broomfieldhouse.com.
Our Harvest Festival Assembly will be taking place on Friday 18th October and we are planning on making the same donation requests as last year. We ask all families in Years 4, 5 and 6 to fill a decorated shoebox with foodie treats: a small box of chocolates, a packet of fancy biscuits, lovely jams or chutneys for example. The recipients of your generosity are elderly and housebound residents of Kew, and the gifts will be hand-delivered by small groups of Year 6 children during the afternoon of Friday 18th. We are grateful to the Kew Neighbourhood Association which supports us in identifying those in need. All other year groups are asked to give donations of food which will be delivered to Richmond Food Bank. Please follow this link to see a list of food currently needed: https://richmond.foodbank.org.uk/give-help/donate-food/. All donations will be collected in the Atrium during the week beginning 14th October. Year 6 parents are invited to join us for the assembly at 9am and we anticipate it will be finished by 10.15am. Year 6 parent volunteers are also needed to support the children with making the deliveries. Thank you in advance for your generosity in supporting our Harvest causes.
Jeans for Genes Day 2024
Jeans for Genes Day took place today and we had a great atmosphere of excitment in school as everyone enjoyed showing off their denim. Every year we take part in this important charity event. Year 5 are only 3 sleeps away from their trip to Go Ape on Monday 23rd September. This is an all-day trip, so please arrive to school at the normal time. The children need to wear their school PE Kit. Go Ape have recommended that children should wear gloves, bring along a rain jacket and correct footwear (no sandals, no flipflops, no crocs, no slip-off shoes). All long hair must be tied back. Packed lunches will be provided, but the children should bring a water bottle in their school or sports rucksack. They will be back at school by approximately 3:30pm. If there is any change to this the office team will send an email.
We would like to invite parents of our Year 1 and Year 2 children to come for our first Open Class Coffee Morning on Wednesday 2nd October. The Open Class gives parents the opportunity to see where their child sits and the classroom environment. Then parents are invited for coffee with some of our SLT team to discuss any questions you may have.
Kindergarten are super excited for their trip to Pizza Express next Wednesday 25th September. The children will walk to our local Pizza Express to experience some pizza making fun. We cannot wait to see all their creations.

On Tuesday, some of our Kindergarten children celebrated the Mid-Autumn Festival! They shared their personal celebrations with the class, and we enjoyed listening to some festive songs. Mrs. Li gave a special demonstration on how mooncakes are made, and the children got hands-on by making their own mooncakes, writing cards, and crafting beautiful lanterns. Happy Mid-Autumn Festival!
On Thursday 12th September, Year 4 had a trip to Wimbledon Watersports. The sun was shining and everyone had a great day on the water, learning to sail and playing games in the kayaks. Despite the cold water, a number of children even opted to jump into the lake at the end of the day! All four Broomfield values were certainly on show; a great team-building day!
Our Year 6 children received their roles of responsibility for the year, proudly announced during last Friday’s assembly! We are excited to see them take on these new leadership roles and make a positive impact in school.
PK and K continued working on portrait painting this week. The children practised their brush skills and had a look at the components of a portrait.

Happy New Year from all of us at Broomfield!
On Monday we kicked off the spring term with the Dukes Education Conference at Wembley. We are delighted to share that our Headmaster, Adam Anstey, and the school were honoured with the Wellbeing Initiative Award in recognition of the effective efforts to promote wellbeing among both children and staff.
This award is a true testament to what is one of the cornerstones of our philosophy and work at Broomfield.
With the theme “The Heart of Education” the conference provided a fantastic opportunity for professional development. Thought-provoking discussions explored the impact of AI, the future of education, and the critical importance of character development in shaping the young leaders of tomorrow.
