We are excited to invite Broomfield parents to our next Fireside Lecture series on High Performance Learning. The session will be delivered by Amy Lilley-Stewart, Director of Professional Learning, and David Rowsell.
At the beginning of this academic year, Broomfield formally adopted the High-Performance Learning (HPL) framework. While the culture and values of high aspiration, ambition and growth have long been embedded in our school, we wanted to align our practice with a globally recognised, evidence-based approach. High Performance Learning is built on the belief that every child can achieve highly when given the right environment, mindset, and learning strategies.
During the session, we will introduce the High Performance Learning philosophy and framework and offer practical guidance for parents and carers on how to grow the minds of their children, both for success in school and for life beyond the classroom.
The session will provide practical advice on creating a home environment that promotes High Performance Learning and on how to support your child to develop strong thinking and learning skills. We will also explore how to nurture the values, attitudes and attributes that are closely associated with success at school and in life.
The session will start at 6pm until 7:15pm and it will be held in our school hall.

We want to make you aware of a recent issue affecting some popular children’s books by Betty Birney. Some editions of the Humphrey book series include a printed website ‘funwithhumphrey’ on the back. This website link printed in some editions of the Humphrey book series now lead to a malicious website. This website is not in any way associated with Faber (the publisher) or the author Betty Birney and has been reported to the National Cyber Security Centre. Faber has paused sales and distribution of the books and is working to resolve the issue.
What this means for you:
We are very excited to announce that the PTA has kindly funded mini first aid lessons for all the children on Thursday 15th and Friday 16th January.
EARLY YEARS – Thursday 15th January
An engaging and interactive class, designed to help little ones understand how grown-ups look after them if they get hurt. The Mini First Aid session is tailored to the children’s age group, making it fun and educational. They will explore what happens to their bodies when they get hurt, where blood comes from, and why bumps form. Through this, the children will gain a better understanding of why we use cold packs or take breaks after a head bump.
The sessions also include a lovely story time with “The Mini Adventures of Freddie”, following the adventures of a brave, accident-prone little boy
YEARS 1-3 (15.1.26) YEARS 4-6 (16.1.26)
These engaging and informative sessions are specifically designed for Key Stage 1 & 2 children and will last 45 – 90 minutes. During the class, children will learn valuable first aid skills, including:
The sessions are delivered in a practical, age-appropriate manner to ensure the children feel confident and empowered should they ever find themselves in a situation where first aid is needed.
We are thrilled to provide this opportunity to all students and are sure it will be both educational and enjoyable.
Please note that Year 6 will not have an extra session on Tuesday 13th January.

Proper nutrition supports brain growth, memory, attention, and learning ability. Emma Brooks, Nutritional Therapist Dip.NT mFNTP, will talk to us about how we can support our children through diet.

The pupil voice on returning to school in 2026 has been full of excitement and enthusiasm, particularly in Year 5 where the children were most proud of their Christmas tree clay projects – we’ve never had so many entries in our pupil experience box. Like everything Mrs Zammit touches, the trees ‘turned to gold’ and are glistening examples of the wonderful things our pupils experience at Broomfield. Alongside this, our class plants had an extra dose of TLC over the holidays when they went home with a selected child or teacher from each class. A special thank you to Georgia in Year 1 for looking after Gru, Flo in Year 4 for looking after Lucky, Steven in Year 5 and Mrs Easting for looking after Mandy for Year 2! Some of the plants were looking slightly worse for wear after all the Christmas fun in the last week of the term and they have returned healthy, happy and refreshed thanks to your constant care, kindness and love over the holidays!
Year 6 have been buzzing with excitement in science as they explored electrical circuits through a fun, hands-on experiment! Pupils worked in teams to build their own circuits using bulbs, buzzers and switches, testing what worked (and what didn’t) and learning how electricity flows. It was fantastic to see their curiosity, teamwork and problem-solving skills light up the classroom!
Year 2 wrapped up well and enjoyed the first Forest School of 2026. They learnt how to use a bow drill, using friction to create fire. A much easier tool was a fire steel, which they used to light some cotton wool in the fire pit. Scott taught them the correct posture whilst making a fire, eg kneeling on the ground with one leg, and foot on the ground with the other. This gives stability and makes it easier to jump up if the flames blow towards you. They also chopped wood with a bill hook and a mallet.
Kindergarten turned into mini scientists and explored ice. The children learned that water can freeze and change into ice and that ice can melt and change back into water. We felt ice and talked about how cold it was before carrying out an exciting experiment. We placed ice into two trays under a warm fan. In one tray we added salt and predicted what might happen. We waited and watched carefully to see whether the salt helped the ice melt faster. The children were completely enthralled, making observations and excitedly sharing what they noticed as the ice changed.
Congratulations to Rita (Y5) who recently achieved a ‘High Merit’ in her Grade 2 RAD (Royal Academy of Dance) ballet exam. An amazing achievement, well done Rita.
The children in Year 1 explored the shape of owls, studied decorative elements and practised their felt-tip skills. As a result, they created some original and eye-catching owl designs!
