Tuesday 21 April – On our first day back of the Summer Term – There will be NO SWIMMING. Instead, all children should wear their summer uniforms as we look forward to welcoming the warmer weather. If you are in need of any uniform, we have a brilliant second hand shop in the school. Please email and purchase it from the PTA Uniform: PTAuniform@broomfieldhouse.com
Online games
We would like to remind parents of the importance of regularly checking parental controls on gaming platforms such as Roblox and Minecraft. Many of these apps include features that allow players to communicate with others online, which could expose children to inappropriate content or interactions if not properly managed. Please take a moment to review privacy settings, chat permissions, and account restrictions to help ensure a safe and positive gaming experience for your child.
Social media
We would also like to remind parents and carers to be mindful of social media use with their child. All of our pupils are below the minimum legal age to use social media platforms and most popular platforms require users to be at least 13 years old.
These age limits exist to protect children from inappropriate content, unwanted contact, and online risks.
We strongly encourage parents to:
Open conversations and shared expectations help children develop healthy, responsible digital habits and ensure that technology remains a positive and safe part of their lives.
The team at UAC have some limited spots available for their Easter Camp at Broomfield and fantastic discounts for Broomfield parents. For more information on what is involved, their instagram page can be found here: https://www.instagram.com/ultimateactivitycamps/
On Tuesday 28 April, children in Year 4 and Year 5 will have the opportunity to try a brass instrument. As we anticipate these short 10 minute ‘taster sessions’ to be very popular, we ask parents to express interest in their child trying out the trumpet and trombone by emailing Miss Fourie directly. This will enable Miss Fourie to put together a schedule so that Mr Clarke (our fantastic brass teacher) is able to see as many children for a trial session on the day. This is a great opportunity for our Year 4 and Year 5 children not to be missed!
Over the last term, the Pupil Council have been working hard at creating a child friendly Broomfield behaviour policy. Throughout the process, the children had the initiative to use the pupil voice to create our TOP TEN GOLDEN RULES. After collecting feedback over many playtimes, the team created the top ten rules and with the help of our Head Boy, Head Girl and House Captains, we decided to create our very own BROOMFIELD acrostic poem that reflected them. A huge congratulations to the Pupil Council who have gone above and beyond to devise a truly bespoke rhyming poem that echoes our school values so wonderfully well. Please find a copy of the poem below:
Be sure to use your best manners around our school and everywhere
Respect for one another by showing creativity, kindness, courage care
Other’s ideas are just important as ours, so listen to them politely
Of course take care of our classroom space to make it the best it can be
Make the world a better place
Face our fears and lead with grace
Independence and teamwork go hand in hand
Extraordinary work, using our talents and skills to learn and understand
Learn with an open heart, honest voice and a curious mind
Do right by one another, because here at Broomfield, we are one of a kind!
For the first time in history a Broomfield raffle and cake sale raised over £500 for charity! Massive congratulations and thanks to all pupils and parents who took part or contributed to last week’s Rose house events. This magnificent sum is now being sent to Rose house’s chosen charity, the Butterfly Project in Uganda, to help young people become responsible and proactive members of the local community.
Year 2 embraced new challenges at Forest School, while also developing practical skills. One of the highlights was using a billhook to cut wood again. The children were re-introduced to this traditional tool and reminded how to handle it with care and respect. With close supervision, they practised controlled movements, focusing on the technique of how to position the wood securely and make steady, deliberate cuts. We also had an exciting introduction to archery. For many, it was their first time holding a bow; we began by learning the basics of how to stand with a balanced stance, hold the bow correctly and aim with focus. A key emphasis was on taking our time; drawing the bow slowly, keeping the arm holding the bow straight and concentrating on the target. The children showed great determination and it was fantastic to see their progress with each attempt. Throughout the session, the children supported one another and celebrated each other’s achievements.
Our recent Science Day was a fantastic success! We were thrilled to welcome Mother Nature Science to the school for a full day of hands-on workshops and exciting experiments, which began with an energetic ‘Superhero Show’ in assembly. Throughout the day, pupils took part in engaging sessions and experiments. Kindergarten and KS1 thoroughly enjoyed the ‘Super Slime’ workshop, while KS2 explored ‘Our Diverse Planet.’ KS1 pupils were especially delighted to take their slime creations home, making it a memorable and fun-filled celebration of science for all!
