During the summer term, we introduced a new Yoga and Mindfulness Club to Broomfield House. The club takes place every Monday at 7.45am and provides a calm and welcoming environment where pupils can relax, focus and improve their wellbeing before the busy week begins. Through simple yoga poses, breathing exercises and mindfulness activities, children learn how to manage their emotions, reduce stress and build confidence. In the warmer weather the sessions are held in our beautiful Pond Patch, allowing pupils to connect with nature while practising mindfulness. The club helps children develop resilience, concentration and a positive attitude, leaving them refreshed and ready for the week ahead.
Year 4 are incredibly excited for our Enterprise Day! Over the past few weeks, the children have worked tremendously hard to create their own elderflower cordial and have enjoyed every step of the process. They have also designed their own logos and created caps, T-shirts, posters and bunting to help promote their business. Elder-Smile: “One sip, one smile.”
We would love to see as many members of our school community as possible at the Kew Fete from 11:00am – 3:30pm. Please come along and visit our stall, you certainly won’t miss us! Look out for our colourful posters and the large red gazebo proudly displaying the school badge.
The children are looking forward to sharing the results of all their hard work and would be delighted if you stopped by to sample their delicious elderflower water. This project has been a wonderful opportunity for them to develop their creativity, teamwork and enterprise skills. They have embraced every challenge with enthusiasm.
A huge thank you must also go to our fantastic Year 4 children and their families for their support in making the elderflower cordial. Their time, effort and dedication have helped make this project such a success. We are very proud of what the children have achieved and look forward to celebrating it with you at the fete.
The excitement is building! With the track painted and heats run, we’re all set for our annual Sports Day on Wednesday, June 24th, from 9:30 AM to 1:00 PM. The weather forecast looks good, and we’re looking forward to a fantastic day of competition and fun at Old Deer Park.
Here’s some important information to help you and your child prepare:
What Your Child Needs
Your child will be bringing home their House T-shirt on Monday. Please ensure they wear this to school on Wednesday, along with the rest of their sports kit. Don’t forget their red sports cap and a water bottle. If it’s warm and sunny, please apply plenty of sun cream before school. Children should arrive at school on Wednesday morning at the normal time.
Joining Us at Old Deer Park
Sports Day events kick off promptly at 9:30am at Old Deer Park. Parents are very welcome to join us and can take seats in the stand upon arrival.
Please note: There is no parking available at the venue. We strongly encourage you to walk or use public transport if possible. If you need to drive, please park in the neighbouring roads, being mindful of local parking restrictions.
Event Schedule & Spectator Information
The children will walk to Old Deer Park with their classes, arriving around 9:15 AM, ready for the field events to begin at 9:30 AM. Once the children are in position, spectators will be invited down from the stand to watch from the marked viewing areas on the field. For everyone’s safety and to ensure clear viewing, please remain within the parent viewing areas at all times and avoid crossing any boundary lines during events.
After the field events conclude, the track events will take place. Spectators will then be asked to return to their seats in the stand overlooking the track. We expect the track events to finish around 12:30 PM, followed by the presentation of the Winners Shield once all points and results have been tallied.
After Sports Day
Once Sports Day concludes, the children will walk back to school for lunch and their afternoon lessons.
Important Note on Afternoon Games:
Refreshments
The members’ bar at Old Deer Park will be open throughout the day, and parents are welcome to purchase drinks, including tea and coffee. We kindly request that no alcohol is consumed during Sports Day events.
We are incredibly excited to welcome you to this fantastic event and hope your children have a memorable day filled with wonderful Broomfield memories!
On Monday 22nd June and Monday 29th June, we will be hosting two informal Meet the Teacher coffee mornings. These sessions are designed to give parents and carers a warm and relaxed opportunity to get to know your child’s new teaching team ahead of the new school year. We understand how important it is to feel comfortable and confident, and these mornings are a great way to begin building those positive connections.
During the sessions, you will have the chance to meet the teachers and support staff who will be working with your child, learn a little about classroom routines and expectations, and share any helpful information you feel is important.
8:30 – 9am, Monday 22nd June: EYFS and KS1: Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 (Pond Patch)
8:30 – 9am, Monday 29th June: KS2: Year 3 – Year 6 (Pond Patch)
Come and celebrate with us on Saturday 27 June, 2-6pm at Rosslyn Park FC!

This year’s event is free to attend with all activities included at no cost. Food will be available at cost price, though the PTA has part-subsidised the children’s menu.
Don’t forget to pre-order your food before Tuesday 23 June

We’re putting together a directory of local recommendations from BHS families to sit alongside the revamped PTA Handbook .
From the best football club to join or a brilliant local hairdresser, to a trusted handyman or favourite coffee shop – if you’d happily recommend it to a fellow Broomfield parent, we want to hear about it.
We’d love every family to contribute and it only takes 5 minutes. Please do add your top picks 👉 tinyurl.com/bhsrecces
The year 6 children took part in a class-based general knowledge quiz last week to determine the top scores for their House teams. With the top three scores in each House, the following children were selected to compete in the grand final of the Broomfield House General Knowledge Quiz on Wednesday.
Palmer House: Alexis, Adil, Lizzy.
Mead House: Christiaan, Alice, Amelia.
Rose House: Ella, Elsa, Valters.
After a very tight first couple of rounds of teamwork on logos, music and selected general topics, the final quickfire round was hotly contested with Mead House winning on 38 points, whilst Palmer House scored a very respectable 37 points and Rose were so close with 36 points.
The children showed great determination and resilience as they worked in their teams and their classmates rallied in support. A fun morning for the whole school!
As part of our 150th anniversary celebrations, we are creating a BHS Time Capsule – to be sealed this term and opened by a future generation of Broomfield pupils!
The Pupil Council will be deciding what goes in, and we would love ideas from across the whole school community – pupils, parents and staff alike. If your child has a suggestion, please write it down and put it in the ‘Time Capsule Ideas Box’ in the atrium by Wednesday 24th June.
The PTA will be funding the capsule, and we are hoping to hold a special sealing ceremony before the end of term – watch this space for details!
We are incredibly proud to celebrate Kaira’s fantastic achievement at the Funakoshi Shotokan Karate UK Competition on Sunday. Kaira demonstrated great skill, focus and determination, winning the overall cup and earning an impressive two gold medals and one silver across the three disciplines she competed in: kata, kumite and the punch bag event. This is a wonderful accomplishment and a testament to her hard work and dedication, well done, Kaira!
The children in Year 1 created vibrant lion collages, working on their cutting, sticking and arranging skills. They also explored patterns and practised their colouring skills.
Our youngest learners in Rising 3s, Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten and Year 1 had a fantastic time at today’s Sports Day, filled with energy, laughter and plenty of cheering! The children enthusiastically took part in a variety of activities, including running races, skipping challenges, obstacle courses and the ever-popular egg and spoon race, showcasing their determination and team spirit. A highlight of the day was the parent races, which brought great excitement and plenty of smiles as families joined in the fun and friendly competition. It was a joyful morning celebrating participation, perseverance and the vibrant school community spirit.

Year 5 thoroughly enjoyed their Victorian Day this week, starting with this fabulous photograph! During the day, the children took part in a themed workshop, learning about the life of children in Victorian London, songs of the day, Victorian inventions and of course, Queen Victoria herself! The children also enjoyed a Victorian PE lesson with Mr Pache, and learnt about the incredible work of Marianne North, using watercolours to paint still life flowers, as well as working outside. (Her work is on permanent display in the Marianne North Gallery in Kew Gardens and is well worth a visit!).

This week, Eco Club members marked World Ocean Day by learning about the importance of our oceans and the impact of climate change on marine life. We discussed how oceans support the planet and why they need protecting.
To bring their learning to life, pupils created their own ocean habitats using shoeboxes, carefully including different creatures and features. The finished projects were fantastic, showing great creativity and a strong understanding of ocean environments.
