There are three after school Art Clubs on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and Thursdays. These are taught by our artist-in-residence, Mrs Claudia Frey, also a former Broomfield parent and qualified art teacher. Mrs Frey is working across a range of exciting media and themes to enhance the established variety and range of art activities on offer during school time.
Brentford FC Community Sports Trust provide athletics training for our children, offering an excellent form of exercise while developing a number of different skills. It is a great introduction to a sport in which the UK excels.
Our Deputy Head (Academic Development), Mr Callander, leads Chess Club with the support of our Year 6 Chess Captain on Tuesdays during morning break. This is a popular club and in the summer term junior and senior chess competitions are held with the winners being awarded trophies along with a House Competition, where the teams compete for the Chess Cup.
Our school chef, Ms Scorer, offers a Cookery Club for Years 3-6 on Mondays and Thursdays. Letting the children into her catering secrets, she encourages a love of cooking and some great sweet and savoury dishes are whipped up in our kitchen. The Christmas cakes with flamboyant decorative touches are always a winner.
Miss Bowers, our Drama/Dance Teacher, offers Dance Clubs to children in Years 1-6 during break and lunch times on Fridays. She works on different styles and techniques, often including short routines to help children develop their ability to pick up choreography. Our Year 5 and 6 Dance Club has participated in the RichDance Festival for the last few years.
Miss Bowers and Miss Hunt, our Drama Teachers, offer speech and drama opportunities to children in Year 3 and above during break and lunch times throughout the school week. As well developing the children’s understanding of staging plays they work on acting skills and support the children who choose to enter the English Speaking Board examinations, in which they do extremely well.
Miss Magsam, part of the Rhythm Studio drum teaching school, leads our djembe based drum clubs on Fridays during break and lunch times. The children learn salsa based rhythms and perform complex multi part pieces. It is fun, vibrant and a marvellous way for children to learn how to master rhythmic musical perfomance.
Thursday lunchtime sees Fencing Club taking over the hall for their lessons. Our fencing instructor, Jonathan Weekes, has had British Champions and a Commonwealth Champion in recent years and so has everything it takes to develop a love of the sport and give a great grounding for any competitive opportunities.
We offer three Football Clubs, on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays for children of different age groups with a focus on developing ball skills. These are run by coaches from Brentford FC Community Sports Trust and our own Mr Kennedy.
On Tuesday lunch times Year 2 and above can enjoy Gym Club led by our Head of Sports. Building flexibility, core strength and gross motor skills this is a fun way to get involved in a physical activity.
Broomfield children have been learning karate with Sensei Debi Steven’s school since 2004 through her classes for Pee Wee and Funakoshi Shotokan karate. Broomfield is now a hotbed of young karateka, with most of our youngest children enjoying our optional in-school Pee Wee Karate lessons and many Year 1 and above children carrying on the sport within Sensei Debi’s Funakoshi Shotokan club lessons both here at school on Tuesday and Thursdays or at the Kew Scout Hut after school.
Our Deputy Head (Personal Development), Mrs Byers, runs Lego Clubs at break on Tuesdays and Thursdays each week. The children from Kindergarten upwards have the opportunity to make amazing models and a group from Year 4 won a Detail and Design award in the Lego League Junior programme in 2019 for their amazing Space Base, complete with jacuzzzi!
On Tuesdays after school our Netball Club puts children in Years 3 and 4 through their paces. Coaches from Brentford FC Community Sports Trust, work to develop ball skills, improve hand/eye coordination and increase fitness.
On Wednesdays one of our native Spanish speaking teaching staff, Miss Soria runs a weekly Spanish Club for our older pupils while our Languages Teacher, Mrs Ali, runs one for the younger children on Tuesdays. The children learn through oral exercises and written work and are introduced to vocabulary and grammar appropriate for their age.
On Mondays, TechnoKids offer an ICT class. Technokids UK was launched in London in 1995 and has been teaching at Broomfield for over a decade. The aim of the classes is introducing children to the wonders of computers and multimedia, providing an extension from our curriculum computing lessons. Technokids at Broomfield is administered directly by the Technokids team at www.technokids.co.uk
