Broomfield Tutors

From September 2018 we are introducing a new initiative, Broomfield Tutors (BT), which will provide a coordinated and managed tutoring service for our families. This additional individual support (AIS) will be delivered outside of school hours. Its aim is that families will be able to access individual help for their children as part of a programme that links directly into the class–based teaching. It will be managed by our Development Coordinator, Mrs Caroline Baird, who is a senior member of the school’s staff. She will deliver some of the tutoring as part of her role and other tutors will be drawn from a team of existing teachers and assistants and some former teachers and assistants.

Families may ask for this help because they are keen to strengthen their children’s development or achievement and/or because they wish to enhance what their children are already doing in school. Our ILE Coordinator may also make recommendations for families to consider if she and the class teacher believe it is in the child’s educational interests.

Mrs Baird will be available to parents wanting to discuss their objectives for their children and will seek to match parents’ requests with the available tutors. She will allocate times and venues and manage the relationship between tutors, class teachers and parents so that everyone knows how the work is progressing. Mrs Baird is available to parents on email: and on the school telephone number: 0208 940 3884.

The fees are shown on the school website at: AIS sessions will be invoiced on the termly invoice as an extension of the tuition we already provide, usually in termly blocks: autumn term – 12 sessions, spring and summer terms – 9 sessions. A full term’s notice is required if you wish to cease the tutoring sessions. Therefore if, for example, you wish to end the tutoring in September you would need to give notice by the start of the summer term. For every new pupil starting a tutoring arrangement the first two sessions will be charged at the normal rate. If, after the first two sessions, it is decided it would be better for the child to have another tutor that will be agreed between the family, the tutor and the school. In these circumstances, while a new arrangement can be set up, the term’s notice period will not be charged. We aim to ensure that everyone wanting a tutor can be paired up in a relationship with whom the child and family are happy as this will produce the most effective results.

A Broomfield Tutors request form is available here: Please edit the form online and press Finish and it will automatically be returned to Mrs Baird so she can begin the process of arranging support for your child.

Arrangements for learning from 23 March

It is with regret that Broomfield House School will be partially closing from 3.30pm on Friday 20th March.  We have been open and providing our customary high quality education in school until this point but, following Government advice, we will now be fully supporting the children’s learning at home.  We have developed robust plans for this, working with our website provider and IT systems support and will be delivering age-appropriate teaching to our children and families.  We will be supporting many different ways of learning which will include text-based work, online lessons, video content and, with parental support, will be marking the children’s work and giving feedback to parents about it.  In Early Years we will also use the Tapestry system.

Developing these new ways of working and learning are exciting and we are confident that the innovations we are introducing to deal with these strange times will offer long term benefits to pupils, parents and staff alike.

We will continue to support the children of key workers at school to allow their parents to provide these critical services during the current situation.

We have no confirmed cases of COVID-19 among our school community.

May I take this opportunity to wish everyone well and hope you all stay safe and healthy.

With all good wishes

Mrs Susie Byers
