Before & After School Clubs

Broomfield offers a variety clubs:

There are three after school Art Clubs on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. These are taught by our artist-in-residence, Mrs Claudia Frey, also a former Broomfield parent and qualified art teacher. Mrs Frey is working across a range of exciting media and themes to enhance the established variety and range of art activities on offer during school time.

Our school chef, Ms Scorer, offers a Cookery Club for Years 2-4 on Mondays and Thursdays. They will make a mix of sweet and savoury dishes and learn measuring and other cooking skills and techniques. Families always enjoy tasting the end products!

We are delighted to welcome Daley Thompson, former Broomfield parent and legendary Olympian, back to BHS with his athletics club. The club is taught by national level athletes who provide a brilliant training for children on Wednesdays. This type of training is an adapted version of what older children learn to do at athletics clubs so it is an excellent form of exercise and introduction to a sport in which the UK excels.

Dance is part of the curriculum for our Early Years' children. From Year 1 and above children can join our Drama and Dance Teacher for the Dance Club on Fridays.

Our Speech and Drama Club runs on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays for children in Year 3 and above. It teaches the children about stagecraft. In the summer term children can enter the English Speaking Board exams, which can really help them in developing public speaking skills.

The Rhythm Studio drum teaching school leads our djembe based drum clubs on Fridays. The children learn salsa based rhythms and learn to perform complex multi-part pieces. It is fun, vibrant and a marvellous way for children to learn how to master rhythmic musical perfomance.

Years 4 and above can join our Fencing Club on Thursdays here in school during lunchtime. It is always a popular choice.

We offer three Football Clubs this year, on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays for children of different age groups with a focus on developing ball skills especially for the younger children.

Broomfield children have been learning karate with Sensei Debi Steven’s school since 2004 through her classes for Pee Wee and Funakoshi Shotokan karate. Broomfield is now a hotbed of young karateka, with most of our youngest children enjoying our optional in-school Pee Wee Karate lessons and older children carrying on the sport within Sensei Debi’s Funakoshi Shotokan club lessons. The sessions are at school on Mondays Wednesdays  and Thursdays.

Netball Club is on Tuesdays and is open to all children in Years 2-4 and is taught by our own PE staff and Brentford Football Club.

Spanish Clubs are on Tuesdays and Wednesdays for different age groups. The children learn through oral exercises, games and written work. They are introduced to vocabulary and grammar appropriate for their age.

On Mondays, TechnoKids offer an ICT class. Technokids UK was launched in London in 1995 and has been teaching at Broomfield for over a decade. The aim of the classes is introducing children to the wonders of computers and multimedia, providing an additional extension from our in school computing lessons at Broomfield. Technokids at Broomfield is administered directly by the Technokids team at

For families requiring childcare, we provide care and activities for children before school from 08.00 on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays and after school from 15.30 to 18.00 on Mondays to Thursdays.

Our full time staff and classroom assistants run our Before and After School Clubs.

For the Before School Club (BSC) children are dropped off at the school library from 08.00 and will be busy reading, drawing and playing with Lego or board games. We do not provide breakfast, so children should eat before coming to school. Children are normally booked termly in the BSC, but we will try to accommodate one-off requests (staff/pupil ratios permitting) so long as they are booked at least one day in advance.

Children in the After School Club (ASC) have a drink and some fruit at 15.30 after school, as they go into the club. They follow a mixture of quiet activities from reading, drawing, painting and crafts to homework for the older children. We also make sure all the children do some physical exercise while at the club, using the playground as much as possible, weather permitting, and the school gymnasium if necessary.

The ASC offers parents two options for care: a single session until 16.45 and a double session until 18.00. Children can take another club during the first session and join the ASC for the second session if desired.  We aim to be as flexible as possible while caring for the children. Full details of prices and availability are available from the School Office.
